First Glimpse
Due out in June 2009, the 114,000-ton, 3,780-passenger Costa Pacifica will become the third ship in Costa Cruises Concordia class. Pacifica will join sister ships Costa Concordia and Costa Serena, the largest and most modern offerings from the Italian line. The ship will boast all of the same features as Concordia and Serena, including the sprawling, Asian-inspired Samsara Spa complex; the inventive alternative restaurant Club Bacco; four swimming pools, one with giant outdoor movie screen, two with magrodomes (retractable glass roofs); and an authentic Grand Prix racecar driving simulator. And new to Pacifica, Costa has announced a deal with Sony that'll put Playstation 3 (PS3) consoles in every cabin. Moreover, the poolside movie screen will be used for PlayStation Nights, where you can split eardrums with "SingStar," a competitive karaoke game, or participate in the interactive quiz game, "Buzz!" Like its siblings, Pacifica will also feature an impressive proportion of balcony cabins for a European liner. Of 1,500 berths, 505 standard outsides and 70 suites feature balconies. Costa Pacifica's debut on June 5 will be among the splashiest of all christenings this year as it will share the festivities with Costa's also-brand-new Costa Luminosa. The two ships will be christened together in Genoa. The ship will begin its tenure sailing seven-night Western Mediterranean voyages out Rome (Civitavecchia) visiting Savona, Marseille, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca, Tunis, Malta and Palermo. Costa Pacifica is currently under construction at Fincantieri's Genoa Sestri Ponente shipyard.
