First Glimpse The sleek, 90-passenger Tere Moana joined Paul Gauguin Cruises in December 2012 after a renovation. Built for French line Compagnie du Ponant in 1998 as Le Levant, the re-branded ship gained new decor, signage and furnishings, as well as updates to public areas and restaurants.
Tere Moana has 45 outside cabins, eight of which sport balconies. Category B and C cabins are 194 square feet, and feature picture windows. The top-ship, 205-square-foot Category A cabins feature 93-square-foot verandahs. All cabins have temperature control, two twin beds that can form a queen, bathroom with full-size shower, bathrobes, slippers, hair dryer, TV, CD/DVD player, safe, and stocked mini-fridge. Some cabins can accommodate three passengers.
There are two open-seating restaurants, and a lounge offering live entertainment and lectures. The ship also has a swimming pool, sun deck, spa and fitness center, small library and a water sports marina (think kayaks and windsurfers).
Itinerary-wise, Tere Moana divides its time between the Caribbean and Central America (winter), and Europe (summer).
Cruise fares are inclusive of gratuities, select fine wines and premium spirits. Wi-Fi hotspots are located throughout the ship, and Internet access is available at an additional charge.
