Very relaxing and extremely enjoyable. by
Lew P from Bay Area, CA Sailing date: Sep 2012Pros: The crew was professional and attentive. Dining in the Black Pearl met our expectations. The server, Stan, was exceptional and offered menu suggestions at every meal. Cons: ??? Ship's crew, service crew, and the meals were totally enjoyable and attentive. The entertainment was fun. The whole trip seemed like just a few days. 5 out of 7 people found this review helpful.

  First Cruise by
Andrea from Sacramento, Ca Sailing date: Sep 2010Pros: Friendly staff, clean facilities, & modern spa. Cons: Not enough time at all ports. The spa is the main reason we booked this particular ship. The spa amenities are well worth the stateroom upgrade!! Ship QualityThe only mess we saw was outside our stateroom. The tray we put out after our meal had not been picked up overnight until after 10:00 am. Dining/FoodDining room service is excellant. Salads are a bit wilted after 3rd day but overall most dishes are very tasty. Stateroom QualityVery clean, larger than we hoped. The only negative is the lack of power inthe hairdryer provided. It was not very strong or hot. Ship Staff QualityFriendly +++

  Splendor Mexican Reveria by
Joan B. from San Jose CA Sailing date: Jan 2010Pros: Wonderful staff Cons: Awful decor in some public areas. The Splendor is a very large ship. The staff kept it very clean. The cabins are a generous size. On the negative side, the decor was awful in some areas. What were they thinking? Ship QualityIn some areas the decor was awful, especially in the main dining rooms and atrium. The rest of the ship was fun and pleasant. The "Pearl" dining rooms were cartoonish. The atrium had a cave feeling. Even the elevators had a "pink contact paper" tacky look. Dining/FoodThere was a variety of very good food; sushi, pizza, Indian and Mediterranean. The food in the main dining rooms was excellent and the service execptional. Stateroom QualityThis was one of the best we ever had on any cruise line Ship Staff QualityEveryone was friendly. Room service was prompt. The photo shop was exceptionally fast. Our room steward was a gem. Entertainment & ActivitiesWe only saw the Stage shows. 4 out of 5 people found this review helpful.

  Superb and Spectacular "Splendor" by
Jacqui V from Las Vegas Sailing date: Jun 2012Pros: Capable and Charismatic Crewmembers Cons: mealtimes often conflicted with activities I wanted to participate in\ I loved this cruise, the room was wonderful, the activities enjoyable and accessible, the food delightful, the variety of activities for all ages superb, and the crewmembers made this voyage perfect. I couldn't have asked for better people to make my vacation a success. Ship Quality

Ship Staff QualityThe crewmembers were all so wonderfully friendly, it was like taking a cruise with people you've known all your life. They were so fabulously funny and went out of their way to encourage and include all people. They went out of their way to learn passengers names and even had inside jokes by the end of the cruise. It was fantastic Entertainment & Activities

  Awesome time by
Greg Y. from Sacramento, CA Sailing date: Feb 2012Pros: Cabin, staff, food variety Cons: Showtimes Very clean ship. We chose a grand suite this time since we had 2 adults and 2 teenagers. This was the best decision we made. If you can afford it I highly recommend spending the extra money. The outside theatre was great. They provide blankets because it does get cold. The cleaning staff was awesome. We are messy people and they kept the room clean. The food was good. The desserts are usually bland but this time most had a flavor. They provided lots,of photo options which was great because I can never get the family to all smile...so I had lots,of options to choose from. I only have 2 complaints. I wish that the major show's times were earlier and the casino slots just sucked the money in. I know they would be tight but these were overly tight. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodI recommend the deli at the aft Stateroom Quality

Decent cruise, good value for money by
Chris G from Modesto, CA Sailing date: Feb 2011Pros: Black Pearl restaurant and karaoke shows Cons: long lines for everything, especially buffet. Embarkation and debarkation lines were exceptionally long. Our inside cabin was clean and well maintained during our cruise. The staff in the Black Peal restaurant were very friendly and efficient, and the food was outstanding. Unfortunately the buffet was a disappointment. The lines were long and the food was bland. It would have been a nice touch to have a free soda bar in the buffet, but soda was only available at a cost of $2.25 each at bars, etc. The karaoke was outstanding, with a talented young man named Kim as the host, who kept the audience in stitches with his antics. Other entertainment was average, although one of the adult comics did a great show. Ship QualityPutting the adult Serenity deck directly below the miniature golf that was crowded with children was definitely a mistake. Dining/FoodBlack Pearl restaurant with "anytime" dining was excellent. Gold Pearl restaurant for breakfast was no better than the buffet. Stateroom QualityInside cabin on deck 8. Well laid out, and kept very clean. Ship Staff QualityWaiter in Black Pearl was entertaining and outstanding. Entertainment & ActivitiesSpectacular lounge shows were good for a ship, average in general entertainment. Bingo was overpriced with small prizes, obviously a great profit center for Carnival. First time for me at karaoke and had a great time, but that was other passengers being entertaining. Couldn't find senior oriented dancing. 3 out of 3 people found this review helpful.

  No Mexican Riviera by
Oleg K from Tarzana, CA Sailing date: Apr 2009Pros: New ship, good service. Cons: Canceled port calls in Mexico. We really enjoyed the cruise for the first three days till Carnival made a decision to cancel all port calls in Mexico and sail to San Francisco. The San Francisco port was named equal substitute port for our trip. In reality cold weather and no activities like beach activities, scuba diving, snorkeling etc. For us it was complete waste of our vacation. We disembarked the ship in Long Beach port during courtesy stop in three days before cruise end. Ship Quality

  Very noisy ship by
Zbigniew Kusibab from San Jose , Ca Sailing date: Mar 2012Cons: Food There was no room for me on this ship. There was music blasting near every pool. Even in adult area, new age electronic music was too laud and drilling through my brain. This music should be set in the background to create relaxing atmosphere. So, I spent most of my time in my room. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodAll food was loaded with herbs and spices that killed the real taste of it. The only food that enjoyed was from mongolian wok, where I was able to control herbs, spices and sauces. All other food in buffet and restaurant was overloaded with spices, herbs, gravies and sauces. Gravy was added also added to fillet mignon and I simply wiped it with napkin, and after that I was able somehow to enjoy it. After few days, I was determined to get something light and I ordered fried chicken with potatoes and gravy. Kentucky Fried Chicken makes better gravy than your chef. Gravy was again heavy and dark flavored. Snails, usually treated with light white sauce were served with thyme and sage that killed taste of it. By the end of the cruise I was not sure what I was eating, everything tasted the same. The only good sauce was served with turkey. What you need is Italian or French chef. They know how to develop right taste of food. Your chef is killing it. Appetizers were overloaded with bread. Stateroom Quality

  First Cruise Ever by
David P. from Scottsdale, AZ Sailing date: Mar 2010Pros: More than I expected. Very friendly staff. Good food. Nice Spa. Cons: Quite rough waters first night and last night out of Long Beach CA. Entertainment on ship ok, seemed more like a High School stage production at times. Overall great experience. I would recommend easily. Time in ports always seemd too short, but expected going in. This is a "cruise" with "visits" to ports. Well organized. Some of the bars/lounges on ship get pretty repetitive night after night, same things or music at the "disco." Ship Quality

Ship Staff QualityAmazingly prompt and quick to service. I felt guilty sometimes by all the special "pampering." Entertainment & ActivitiesHorseback riding in the countryside of Puerto Vallarte was a great experience! Guides were excellent and fun. It was obvious they enjoyed what they were doing. 4 out of 6 people found this review helpful.
