Carnival Splendor Cruise by
Donna N. from San Francisco, CA Sailing date: Dec 2012Pros: The zip lining adventure in Cabo Cons: The horseback riding in Puerto Vallarta Carnival Splendor provided an excellent vacation. It was incredibly clean and the staff was superb. They were above par on service and went beyond their service many times. I highly recommend this vacation Ship Quality
Dining/FoodThe buffets could have added a selection of pastas and there could be an additional restaurant, but overall if anyone did not have any food, it was their own fault. When you have to serve 4000 people at varying times, the service was quite excellent! Stateroom Quality

  Ended way too soon! by
A Traveler from United States Sailing date: Nov 2012Pros: Service Cons: buffet The service was outstanding from everyone. the only negative was the buffet onboard. The selection was skimpy and the food was often cold. Dining/FoodLove the dining your way.Only reason for the lower rating is the buffet.Main dining was excellent. Stateroom Quality

  had a good time by
A Traveler from california Sailing date: Jul 2012Pros: friendliness of the staff Cons: that they even charge for soda this was our first time on a cruise ship. We really enjoyed the cruise but ship seems old and the decor seems outdated. There were some part of the ship that smells like toilet overflow. It was suppose to be all inclusive but they charge for sodas. Ship Quality
Dining/Foodfood was above average but the drinks were awful. Coffee and juice were not very good. and they charge for sodas. Stateroom Qualityroom was clean and comfortable but the decor needs to be update. the shower is too small. Ship Staff Qualitythe dinning room and housekeeping staff were wonderful. Great Time by
A Traveler from Southern California Sailing date: Jul 2012Pros: Our cabin was very nice, clean and comfortable. The pool was terrific. Our dinner tablemates were such fun that we decided to not change table location. The latin band was fantastic. I'm still tired. Cons: The location of our dinner table was not good at all. It was right in traffic, employee access area. The area did not seem very clean. The food was ok. The flat iron steak was tough and overcooked both times I ordered it. The ship was great. Very pretty. The venues were very nice. I especially liked the Splendor Lobby Bar. Ship Quality

  Very noisy ship by
Zbigniew Kusibab from San Jose , Ca Sailing date: Mar 2012Cons: Food There was no room for me on this ship. There was music blasting near every pool. Even in adult area, new age electronic music was too laud and drilling through my brain. This music should be set in the background to create relaxing atmosphere. So, I spent most of my time in my room. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodAll food was loaded with herbs and spices that killed the real taste of it. The only food that enjoyed was from mongolian wok, where I was able to control herbs, spices and sauces. All other food in buffet and restaurant was overloaded with spices, herbs, gravies and sauces. Gravy was added also added to fillet mignon and I simply wiped it with napkin, and after that I was able somehow to enjoy it. After few days, I was determined to get something light and I ordered fried chicken with potatoes and gravy. Kentucky Fried Chicken makes better gravy than your chef. Gravy was again heavy and dark flavored. Snails, usually treated with light white sauce were served with thyme and sage that killed taste of it. By the end of the cruise I was not sure what I was eating, everything tasted the same. The only good sauce was served with turkey. What you need is Italian or French chef. They know how to develop right taste of food. Your chef is killing it. Appetizers were overloaded with bread. Stateroom Quality

  Mixed experience by
A Traveler from Salt Lake City, Utah Sailing date: Dec 2011Pros: Our experiences at dinner. I liked our table mates and also loved the servers at dinner. They were the highlight of our experience with this cruise line. Cons: The noise level in our cabin was almost unbearable at night. (We were right above the band stand in the casino.) Had rude, inconsiderate neighbors. That probably isn't the fault of the cruise line, but it tells you about the demographic that chooses Carnival. Spacious, clean accommodations. Lots of food, some of it good. Some friendly staff, some tired, disengaged staff. Music was TOO LOUD in most venues. It made the week somewhat unpleasant. Loved the Serenity deck and the Spa. Not many exercises classes to choose from. If you want to stay active on a cruise, this is not the best ship for that experience. Ship QualityVery clean. I liked the outdoor spaces on the ship. The decor is a bit too "casino" for my taste. Dining/FoodJust average. Food at dinner was slightly above average. Stateroom QualityVery nice room. Spacious, loved the balcony. Did not like the location. (We were on Deck 6. Avoid it!) We were right above the band stand in the casino and there was extremely loud music playing until at least midnight or 12:30 am most nights. We basically gave up on trying to go to bed until after 12:30. I came back from the trip tired and grumpy instead of relaxed and refreshed because of the lack of sleep. Ship Staff QualityWe had excellent waiters at dinner. They were the best. The woman at the coffee shop was friendly. The cleaning staff was not very friendly. They also just seemed exhausted and overworked. It seemed like all the help on the ship were just tired and overworked. They didn't seem happy so it was hard to pass on happiness/friendliness to guests. We did not like the cruise director's announcements or humor. Entertainment & ActivitiesAgain, a mixed bag. There were a couple of shows that were excellent, but a couple where the dancers were off and they were not well choreographed. Not much variety in the music. The volume was so loud in each venue, that it was almost an unpleasant experience. That was particularly true in the smaller venues on the ship. 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

Spend a week on the Spledor by
A Traveler from United States Sailing date: Oct 2011Pros: very relaxing week Cons: uneven volumes on shipboard tv service, and rather uncomfortable beds in our cabin. Overall my wife and I enjoyed our recent cruise (23-Oct-11) on the Splendor. It was the second time we've taken this cruise and this ship together. The first was our Honeymoon and the most recent was for our anniversary. We did find our bed uncomfortable, but that is more likely due to the fact that we have a memory foam mattress at home and anything less feels pretty lousy. Ship QualityShip looked good, fresh varnish on railings and new paint all around looked sharp. Dining/FoodSushi bar excellent. Would like to see a larger assortment of choices though. I wish we could have gotten early dinner, 8:15 is pretty late. Pizzeria and burger stand were some of our favorites. Stateroom QualityStateroom looked good, our door lock failed but maintenance was quick to respond. Also our balcony light did not work, but we didn't mind that at all. Ship Staff QualitySteward and wait staff were very good. Rest of staff very nice and customer service desk very knowledgeable and friendly. Entertainment & ActivitiesThere was enough going on to keep just about anyone amused and busy.

Puerto Vallarta, MexicoOriginal planned excursion cancelled due to lack of interest. Got a backup excursion in its place that was a lot of fun.
Cabo San Lucas, MexicoHot and Humid, but that's not anyone's fault. Did not like being hounded by every store owner as we walked down the street. If I want to buy something, I'll walk in myself.

  A decent cruise by
A Traveler from San Francisco, CA Sailing date: Sep 2011Pros: itinerary , easy disembarkation Cons: guest services, expensive alcohol, food Ship Quality:
tacky decor , very odd layout, crowded elevators, very loud.
Dinning/Food:
The food was extremely salty. I love salt but even for me was too much.
The variety at breakfast was very poor: the same thing everyday. I had the feeling that they were 'recycling' dinner into breakfast.
Lunch was okay but way too crowded.
Dinner in the dining rooms could be a hit or a miss. I would not recommend ordering seafood from the menu. We tried lobster, fish and shrimp, and all of the dishes were pretty bad. I liked their steaks and chilled soups.
Stateroom quality:
It was good with decent bathroom.
The stateroom attendants were great hard working people.
Ship staff quality:
Guest services was bad: long lines and bad attitude - I witnessed someone being threatened to be kicked off the ship in Mexico(!) by one of the guest services clerks (I think that says enough about how much this cruise line cares about its customers).
Security checks were very poor. All they cared is customers bringing alcohol on board.
One of our friends passed security with a pocket knife but I got pulled aside for a bottle of wine. Overall the goal of the cruise is to rip you off as much as they can.
Entertainment:
It was not that great.
The music on the ship was way too loud. You could not find a space on the ship without having to listen to a "concert". Ship Quality

Puerto Vallarta, MexicoWe did not book any excursion but we explored the city on our own and we loved it. We took a city bus (for 7 pesos/person) to El Nogalito. We walked to the small village of Nogalito and we hiked up to the the river in the forest. On our way back we stopped at the only restaurant with absolutely gorgeous outdoor sitting. We had some appetizers and very tasty mango Margaritas. The restaurant was not cheap but is was definitely worth it.
Then we took the city bus back to the old town and dowtown. We had a great day.
Don't Miss: taking a city bus to El Nogalito. Loved it..... Cabo San Lucas, MexicoWe did not book any excursion but we did have a great time.
On first day we walked to Medano beach ( about 20 - 25 mins walk from the marina) and we spent the day at one of the resorts.
Second day we took a water taxi to Lovers Beach and we really loved it.
Great water and weather.
Don't Miss: Lovers beach 2 out of 5 people found this review helpful.

  A prettyv good cruise by
Phil Backlund from Ellensburg, WA Sailing date: Aug 2011Pros: Entertainment (especially Issac and the rock review), food, the room, time ashore, staff helpfullness Cons: Too much emphasis on shopping, too many kids, pool areas too crowded, drink prices high Clean, too much like Las Vegas, easy to move around, crowded pools, nice rooms, great staff, good exercise room, nice bars, good sound stage. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodOverall, very good. The Gold Pearl dining room was great. The buffet on the Lido deck was good, though uneven. Tandori bar was really good. Stateroom QualityWe liked it a lot. Ship Staff QualityVery good staff Entertainment & Activities

Puerto Vallarta, MexicoWe really like PV.
Don't Miss: Zip lines, drinks on the beach. Cabo San Lucas, MexicoWe did the coastal tour, and that was not worth the money. Since we only had one day at Cabo, we didn't get a chance to experience much. I wouldn't buy any of the ship's tours--too expensive
