Jenny S. from Pittsburgh, PA. Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: Great Crew Cons: Ship way too big for me! Overall we have to say the ship was really impressive, the staff was wonderful as always! Love sailing with Carnival . Ship QualityLike a smaller ship! The Freedom is huge and sometimes hard to get around. you find yourself going in a circle just to get too the dinning area....ALways back tracking... Dining/Foodalways room for improvment! had only one bad meal..in the main dinning. but the rest was excellent. Stateroom QualityWe had a Balcony room...wonderul Ship Staff QualityLoved the crew very helpful. Entertainment & Activities

Lisa R. from Philadelphia, PA Sailing date: May 2009Pros: itinerary, stateroom, comedy show, overall cleanliness Cons: lack of variety onboard daily activities, good but not great food, pre-determined dinner seating arrangements Carnival is, in my opinion, the best vacation you could possibly take--no matter which ship or which itinerary!!! St. John's, AntiguaHorseback riding was great, but the horses were hard to control
Don't Miss: any of the beaches Road Town, Tortola, B.V.I.The beaches are practically untouched and gorgeous!
Don't Miss: Any and all beaches!!! Nassau, BahamasVery commercial
Don't Miss: Atlantis Resorts, although very pricy San Juan, Puerto RicoNot much to do because we were there at night and the nightlife was a bit of a let down, except for the tourist spots. I liked it much better on a previous trip during the day.
Don't Miss: Senor Frog's Charlotte Amalie, St. ThomasNot too commercial, lots to see and do
Don't Miss: Skyride to Paradise Point 7 out of 9 people found this review helpful.

  relaxing sunny cruise by
Cathy R. from Cincinnati, OH Sailing date: Mar 2009Pros: Grand Cayman Cons: Jamaica - way too many "gauntlets of peddlers" to wade thru a very nice large ship. You can tell they are cutting back some but it is still nice. Ship Quality
Dining/Food
Stateroom Quality
Ship Staff Qualityour steward was excellent, some of the staff verged on rudeness, probably tired of seeing "rich, fat" Americans enjoying things they cannot (sorry, that was my impression) Entertainment & Activities

Key West, FloridaDo not do "Taste of Key West", waste of time, not much eating
George Town, Grand Caymanwe did stingray city on the Allura, it was terrifice. Tons of boats and people at the site, though. People super nice, vendors super nice
Ocho Rios, Jamaicathe planatation tour was excellent and the people there really nice, everything else a waste of time. Taj Mahal shopping plaza a joke (Indians and Pakistanis selling chinese junk), Dunn's river falls was beautiful but so many people and everyone wanting a tip, plus the "gauntlet of peddlers" to get to the exit was extremely annoying.

  Great cruise! by
Diane L. from Coleman, WI Sailing date: Feb 2009Pros: I enjoyed the many different types of entertainment from comedy to musicals Cons: Having a cabin on level 6 above the stage, you could hear everything and had trouble sleeping. Very nice ship. Crew and staff did a wonderful job. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodI had to eat at 8:15 pm which is a little late for me. Stateroom Quality

  Great Trip! by
W P from San Francisco, CA Sailing date: Dec 2008Pros: Entertainment & Excursions Cons: Food was very mediocre We were totally surprised by the excellent dancers and live entertainment. It is clear that they did the very best possible with the resources (music, staging, and costumes). The dancers worked hard (and we didn't even necessarily liked the music). Also, if you select the right shore excursions - we took a canal cruise in Costa Rica and a city tour of Panama City - you will also be delighted. Very, very informed hosts. The only negatives were of the ship itself - tacky and over the top decor. Also, the food looked good but were neither delectable to the palate nor aromatic. So, it filled the stomach without being fulfilling. Ship QualityThe only negatives were of the ship itself - tacky and over the top decor.
Staff, service, and cleanliness were excellent, however. Dining/Food Also, the food looked good but were neither delectable to the palate nor aromatic. So, it filled the stomach without being fulfilling. Stateroom QualityComfortable sheets and towels. Clean. Attentive. Just the over the top decor. Pink everywhere. They really need to have fired the original interior designer. Ship Staff QualityGreat stateroom and dining staff.
Just wished they had a few less loudspeaker announcements. Entertainment & ActivitiesWe're use to Broadway, so we were totally surprised by the excellent dancers and live entertainment. It is clear that they did the very best possible with the resources (music, staging, and costumes). The dancers worked hard (and we didn't even necessarily liked the music).

Cozumel, MexicoLots of outdoor sporting activity options. Mexicans are always welcoming.
Colon, PanamaThe port city itself is not great. The ride from Colon to Panama City was unexpectedly interesting. I am not a big boat guy but the canal was more interesting than I anticipated. And Panama City is quite cosmopolitan.
Don't Miss: The old city of Panama City is quaint and beautiful. Puerto Limon, Costa RicaThe port city itself is not great. But the excursion was excellent. Just have reasonable expectations of seeing wildlife in Costa Rica. It is not like vising a zoo where the animals are all crammed together. It's sparse as is the case in wild areas. Loved the sloths!
Don't Miss: Canal tour! The wildlife soak up the sun by the river. Great guides! 6 out of 8 people found this review helpful.

  Wonderful cruise? by
Angie A. from Florida Sailing date: Dec 2008Pros: The cabin appeared to be well thought out to provide the most space available. Cons: The food was just o.k., with the exception of dinner in the dining room. More charges were added to my credit card 2 days later. Carnival Freedom had plenty of room for the more than 3000 passengers on our cruise. It is a fairly new ship and looked it. Our state room was small but not cramped like some of the other ships I have sailed on previously. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodDinner in the dining room was fantastic. The buffet was not as good as the buffets on other ships. Stateroom Quality
Ship Staff QualityThe ship had fantastic staff. Everyone seemed happy and worked very hard to make sure the ship was spotless. Entertainment & ActivitiesHalf of the shows were just all right. The other half were great.

Key West, FloridaI found it too touristy.
George Town, Grand CaymanI stopped at a restaurant and bar for some drinks, but don't remember the name of it. They were serving nachos, hamburgers, chicken strips, fries, etc., which did not interest me at all. I would have liked to try local cuisine.
Ocho Rios, JamaicaIt rained the day we got to Ocho Rios, so it was like a waste of time.

Not a good time had by all! by
Mrs. P from Sutton, NH Sailing date: Dec 2008Pros: The shows Cons: Food, dining room stewards, ship layout Room steward was awesome, service was almost invisible. Dining room steward was a different story. Food was always cold and we were always served late. Steward was having a bad cruise the entire time and we paid the price. One of our dining companions had an insect in her food and it was barely acknowledged. Ship layout was tough. You had to go up from DECK 3 and then back down to get to the atrium on the oher side. This is cruise #8 for me and the first and last on Carnival. Ship QualityNot a good fowing layout for the dining rooms to the other pulic rooms. Dining/FoodNasty and cold food. Stateroom QualityStateroom (balcony cabin) was small, I don't see how the larger passengers got around if two average sized people found it close. Ship Staff QualityAsked for Matire'D on two occasions and was ignored. Purser staff was quite rude. One of our dining companions was served dinner with an insect and another had a table in the shopping rea fall on her foot and you would think thye sould have gotten more acknowledgement than a form letter. Entertainment & ActivitiesThe assistant cruise director (AKA Big Sexy) was a blast.

Would not go to these ports again. by
Timothy K from Isanti, Minnesota Sailing date: Nov 2008Pros: Jamaica Cons: Key West, Grand Cayman, buffet food I was on the Carnival ship "Freedom", we went through Key West, Grand Cayman Islands, and Ocho Rios Jamaica. If you like to shop then you will have a great time in Key West and Grand Caymen Islands, there was nothing else to do. We had a riot in Jamaica, there was not enough time to see all that we wanted to, the people were very friendly there. The cruise ship Freedom, had a lot of great staff from the room stewards to the formal dining area but the buffet left a lot to be desired, food that was supposed to be hot was cold (and in a lot of situations not cooked thoroughly), and food that was supposed to be cold was warm, by the end of the cruise they were running out of stuff in the buffet area. Overall, I would give this cruise a "D". Ship QualityShip was clean and room stewards did an excellant job. Dining/FoodFormal dining area had some fantastic food, stuff you would find in a 5 star restaurant, the buffet left a lot to be desired, food was not totally cooked (breakfast foods), they ran out of items by the end of the cruise. Stateroom Qualityfantastic Ship Staff Qualitymost were great, there were a few that acted like we were an inconvenience. Entertainment & Activitiesgreat shows, but would not recommend going to the adult comedy show if you do not want to hear a lot of profanity.

Key West, Floridagreat for shopping, not much else to see
George Town, Grand Caymangreat commercialized port with lots of shopping
Ocho Rios, Jamaicadidn't have enough time to get to everything I wanted to do like the white water rafting. The only thing I did not like about Jamaica is when you get off the ship you are hounded by taxi drivers trying to get your business and do not like to hear no.
