Very disapointed by
Dorcas F from Vernonia, Or Sailing date: Oct 2009Pros: steak house Cons: the other food and shows The shows were very disapointing compared to other Carnival ships we have been on. The food was excellent in the Steak house restaraunt and the shrimp was very good. The best part of the ship was our stuart he was great. I will not be going or recommending this ship to anyone. I loved the outside big big screen TV. Ship QualityWe loved being on deck 10 we could just walk to the pool. For the most part a great experience by
Brad from Seattle, WA Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: Great staff, great cruise director, and great shows Cons: the food, and the elegant nights I recently went on the Liberty on a trip to the western Caribbean (Cozumel, Oho Rios, and Grand Cayman). Overall my experience was pretty great. Our cruise director, Butch, was very friendly and outgoing making the whole trip a little smoother and entertaining. This was our first cruise. For what you get with this vacation its a great value. That being said one of the very few things I could rate it low on was the quality of the food. You get an abundance of food but most of it is mediocre food. One of the best things that's opened for most of the day is the deli, and the grill. the pizzeria is open 24hrs. Those are always safe bets. The dinning hall was kind of a hit and miss. If we had a bad experience with the food we just went up to the deli or the pizzeria usually. The elegant nights were kind of a pain because they happened twice. But like I said earlier everything else was great and I would probably sail again on the Carnival Liberty. If you do get a room with a patio, it's worth it! Ship Quality

  The Perfect Honeymoon! by
Sara G from Denver, CO Sailing date: Jul 2009Pros: Having to unpack only one time! Cons: The short amount of time in each port. The ship was beautiful and well maintained. The cleaning crew is amazing. There was never anything out of place. We truly enjoyed the staff as well. Our dining room service and stateroom was superb! The staff cared about us and was always interested to hear from us. There was plenty to do everyday as well as a place to relax. No hosted activities for us to meet people our age, which would have been nice. Ship Quality

Cozumel, MexicoTrue Mexico! It is a beautiful port with a wonderful downtown area. Great place because prices are affordable.
Don't Miss: Snorkeling George Town, Grand CaymanExtremely short day especially when an excursion is booked. We didn't seen anything beyond our excusion to swim with dolphins and to Stingray City.
Ocho Rios, JamaicaToo little time to see the whole town when an excursion is booked. Wonderful shopping and very welcoming!
Don't Miss: Tubing down the white river! 2 out of 4 people found this review helpful.

Pleasant Trip and First Time Cruise by
Tracy P from Boston, MA Sailing date: Jun 2009Pros: Shore excursions and Hospitality Cons: The food and too dictatorial with your personal time. This was our first cruise, so some of our impressions were because we expected something slightly different. So I am aiming this review at first time cruises without children. The Carnival Liberty itself was perfectly fine, it did feel a bit closed in, compared to the pictures from other people's cruises and experiences. From our perspective it did feel closed in given the 3000+ people on the ship. This by itself was fine, there's not much to be done the ship is what it is, my biggest complaint was that there were only 2 places that were adult only, one was the cigar bar (which was comfortable and quiet) and the other were the hot tubs on the aft of the ship. The crew did a good job keeping the kids out of them, as the entire ship was over run by families. So if you do have a family there was always something to do, and the ship really does cater toward families. The crew worked very hard to keep the ship clean, and for the most part it was comfortable.
We cruised to two ports that used a gangway and Grand Cayman that used a tender. I actually preferred the tender as the whole process felt organized, rather than just a huge crush of people leaving the ship all at once.
So the only reason I don't recommend this ship is solely because for a couple I don't think this is the atmosphere for them, for a family however I would recommend the ship. Ship QualityThe Lido deck was extremely loud and the layout seemed to be such that they just shoved chairs wherever they could and in great number, so it leant for a loud crowded feel. Dining/FoodHarry's Supper Club was actually very good, however that was just one meal for us. They did cater to a gluten free diet extremely well, as my companion is gluten free. However, they did not really season anything, so the overall goal was butter and cream based flavorings, which is not what I like, and the only other option would be red meat, potatoes or deep fried. They also never reflected the cuisine of the region we were cruising in, and given how short a period of time you are allowed in each port of call, I would have liked at least one menu item to represent the cuisine of the area. Stateroom QualityWe did not like the beds and as we were in an interior stateroom we did not have a window Optional lights that you could set on a timer that gradually turned on would have helped waking up. The cleanliness, promptness and friendliness was superior, but really the room was just a basic hotel room. Ship Staff QualityEveryone on working on the ship was phenomenal and it was hard to tell them no, as we would love to be on a cruise or in a resort with the staff on the ship. They catered to a gluten free diet, they worked hard to remember you when they saw you in other parts of the ship. They were all happy to share their experiences and perspectives, and always with a smile. I cannot recommend the staff of the Carnival Liberty enough. Entertainment & ActivitiesWe opted out of almost every on board activity, so I cannot down grade them for something I did not participate in, that was my choice. I did not like how much I was made to feel like I should have been doing the activities, simply for the number of times it felt like we were being told to go do them. The Shore Excursions were fantastic though and so I'm basing my rating on their shore excursions, prompt, friendly and everything we did was well worth it.

Cozumel, MexicoWe are also definitely going back. We visited Tulum, so I have no review of Cozumel itself. We had a great time, and while there was panhandling, that was easily handled with a simple no. This was great, educational and comfortable. Even though there were 7 busses from just our ship at this activity it did not feel over run, we were told that during high season it would feel crowded, so pick your time carefully.
George Town, Grand CaymanWe got in early, and could use public transportation to get around, so we had the ability to get up to 7 mile beach, explore a bit of the area shops, AND had a fantastic shore excursion (Snuba), we only wished we had more time to eat dinner and relax. We are definitely going back. We also did an activity that was not the most popular, so we beat the crowds that reportedly happened at Stingray city.
Ocho Rios, JamaicaWe had a great shore excursion, so that aspect was fine. What I did not like was that you could not, and were not recommended to explore on your own. The atmosphere of the island, the culture of begging was off putting. However, I DO recommend going and walking up the falls, it was beautiful

Matt K from Montana Sailing date: Mar 2009Pros: Amazing food and outstanding service Cons: Many kids The Carnival Liberty is a great ship, just big enough to accomodate the 3000+ people staying there. I absolutely will cruise with Carnival again because of this experience. Ship Quality

  amazing relaxing getaway! by
Catherine B. from Long Island, NY Sailing date: Feb 2009Pros: timeliness, friendly staff, lots of options for onboard fun Cons: nothing! It had been about 10 years since I had last been on a cruise. And I was completely impressed with this ship - I liked even better than the line I had been on once before! Everything was very organized upon the arrival and leading all the way up to departure. The friendliness of the staff was phenomenal and everyone was so helpful! Ship QualityLidia, our stewardess, was phenomenal! She introduced herself and her assistant on the first day and everyday we saw them we were greeted with big warm smiles! Dining/FoodOur waitress and waiter, Kostadinka and Gabor, were awesome! They were so helpful and very personable. At night it felt like we were sitting down with long lost relatives. Stateroom QualityOn the Orbitz site we chose a room that said it was an interior room but stated that the location was an oceanview room. We didn't expect that at all so when we got to the room we literally jumped up and down because we saw the huge window and it was jus great! Ship Staff Quality

Cozumel, MexicoMy friend and I took a Mexican Cooking and Tasting class and were able to spend a little over an hour at the beach. It was so gorgeous! It really felt like we were in paradise. We went back to the ship to relax for a little then hit the port again at night to do some shopping.
Don't Miss: The beaches. George Town, Grand CaymanWe took a tour with 4 other guests on the Liberty and our driver, Christine, was amazing! She was born and raised in Grand Cayman so she had a lot of history of the island, which was really nice. We did some shopping and found a computer to make free phone calls home from a souvenir shop, I don't remember the name, but you had to walk up a flight of stairs.
Don't Miss: Hell Ocho Rios, JamaicaSome of the people you came across in Ocho Rios were sketchy. I'm from NY and I'm used to people coming up and trying to sell you stuff, but you say "no" twice and they leave you alone. In Jamaica, they don't let up. We walked up the falls and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life! The guides, Shaw and Peeping Tom (cameraman), were really fun. Our tour bus guide, Marie, was really cool too. But once you were alone outside the port we were just bombarded. You have to have a thick skin or just stay on a tour.

  A Cruise to Remember by
Lisa K. from Lindenhurst, IL Sailing date: Nov 2008Pros: The theatre performers Cons: Small Pool Sizes The ship was grand and beautiful. The only disappointment was the small pool sizes. For the 1200 children on board we thought the pools would be bigger in size. Ship QualityAgain only disappoint was the small pool sizes Dining/FoodWe had a wonderful dinning experience. The food was excellent, especially in the dinning room. Our head waiter was so personable;sharing stories of his homeland. He made our dinning experience a comfortable one. Stateroom QualityThe staterooms were always very clean. Ship Staff QualityVery friendly staff - everyone greeted you when passing by. Nice touch! Entertainment & ActivitiesThe theatre performers were excellent. We enjoyed all the productions. We could not hear the announcements the Cruise Director made from the upper deck, main pool side, though. The Cruise Director was funny and entertaining.
