Ross H. from penn Sailing date: Aug 2012Pros: alsaka Cons: carnaval, the company and cruise the budjet for the cruise director has GOT to be a joke! in 7 nights 2 shows? also he STRONGLY downplayed Vancover and it was one of the best stops. he told us the streets would be all rolled ua and everyone closed we could have had a wonderful meal at many places and still seen the castle and alot more of this beautiful city. he didnt lie as much as a lie of ommision! Ship QualityTERRIBLE i and a veteran cruiser and it seems that now at least the food is preprepared freezer packed and served as needed and when needed Dining/Food

  Relaxing and Interesting by
John B from St. Louis Sailing date: May 2012Pros: Getting off of the ship. Cons: Too many sea days. This is a cruise for those looking for something different. No beaches. No heavy partying. If you are expecting to see crystal clear skies 24/7 you will be disappointed. What you will see is a temperate rain forest ecosystem that is beautiful, pristine and clean. There will be plenty of time to relax as the shore time is at a minimum. There are three nights before one arrives in Skagway, which is the longest shore day. Tracey Arm was not accessible on our cruise because of icebergs but the scenery was exceptional. We recommend the Chilcoot hike/float in Skagway. We did not purchase a Carnival excursion in Juneau and boy, were we glad we waited. There were numerous vendors lined up on the dock with great prices....$16 round trip to the Mendenhall Glacier. Fantastic! There is very little time in Ketchican, but for some cheap natural history walk to the Totem Heritage Center: $5 bucks! Victoria, BC, was a waste for shore time. Only four hours. This was just enough time to walk to the city center and back. Overall we found that the boat was excellent, the food was good and the service just fine. We were too early in the season for the salmon run. As a result, the bears were not down at the streams yet....although we did see a couple of black bears, a few Eagles and various other wildlife.....watch for whales next to the ship! This was an enjoyable trip. Ship Quality

  9 Day Mexican Cruise by
Kala B from Phoenix, AZ Sailing date: Mar 2012Pros: Cabo Cons: Not much to see The ship itself was recently taken out of dry dock and therefore was relatively clean and new. There were still some areas of wear and tear and the casino had very few newer machine options. There were more food options on this ship than I have experienced on other ships and the layout was very convenient. Ship QualityThis is the first carnival cruise ship I have been on where the Serenity Deck did not feel like an after thought which was a major plus in my opinion. The casino was well spread out with little to no newer machine options. The condition was in fairly good conditions but did show some age. Dining/FoodThe food on this ship was okay but nothing to rave about. Some nights things would come out fresh and warm other times they looked and tasted thrown together. The buffets were constantly closed and the grills food was very dry. Stateroom QualityThe stateroom was like all the other ships I have been on. Ship Staff QualityWhile on the ship the staff were friendly and kind. However on the last day getting off we forgot a piece of luggage and realized it just as we were walking through security. Carnival took more than an hour to go up to our room and group the bag, Additionally the staff was very rude about it. It appears once your cruise is over so is their service. Entertainment & ActivitiesThe activities were the usual comedy shows, bingo, trivia, karaoke. 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

  Thanksgiving Cruise by
Dawn D. from Portland, OR Sailing date: Nov 2011Pros: Pretty ship. Lots of nice areas to sit and read. Cons: The itinerary was changed and the ports weren't great. People smoking on board. The ship was beautiful, the staff was friendly, and we had a good time. I have never been to Cabo; it was my favorite port. It was clean and the beach was really nice. We went horseback riding in Ensenada which was fun for beginners but for anyone else it was very boring. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodThe food was very basic. Some of the food was bad but most was just average. A couple of dishes were excellent like the veggie lasagna. We ate once in the Steak House ($30/person). It was very good (just like the regular dining room use to be 25 years ago). The service wasn't great and the restaurant was not even half full. Stateroom QualityThe beds are not very comfortable. We would wake up every morning with a back ache. I wondered if this was on purpose so that you would want to go to the spa for a massage. Ship Staff QualityThe staff was very friendly however not really helpful. I was on the lido deck when a man who was in a wheelchair with one leg was trying to scoot himself to a table with his tray. Staff walked right by him and did not help. I asked him if I could push him to a table and he was very thankful. Entertainment & ActivitiesI went to a couple of shows and they were awful.
Collapse List of Ports
Ensenada, MexicoWent horseback riding which was fun as I was a beginner but boring for those who weren't.
Puerto Vallarta, MexicoPV was again very clean which impresses me. We took the excursion "Pirate Ship". Not worth the $99/person. The beach they took you to was not as nice as Cabo and they didn't have lounge chairs just regular uncomfortable chairs. The water was ok.
Cabo San Lucas, MexicoMy family went on the Zip Line the first day and had an awesome time (this excursion was through Orbitz as we got a coupon for booking through them). The second day we went to the beach was really nice. Cabo is very clean. The bad thing is on the beach there were so many people trying to sell you things. Literally every 2 minutes people were asking you to buy things. The walk to the beach is long, take the little boats to the beach. $3/person.
Don't Miss: Zip Line Manzanillo, MexicoWe didn't even go in to port. The excursions available were not exciting and the ship didn't even have shop or restaurants that they recommended.

Great cruise for the money spent by
A Traveler from Corona, CA Sailing date: Oct 2011Pros: Great entertainment Cons: Long wait and lines to get off the ship at ports We took the Carnival Spirit on a 5 day cruise to Cabo San Lucas. Very good food up on the Lido Deck. We had a balcony cabin which was the fist on up at the bow and it had a large intake grill that made the balcony uncomfortable and noisey to use. Entertainment and comedy club acts were first rate. The tendering to the port was extremely slow. Cabo has lots to do. Your time dining was great. Service was excellent everywhere. Good value for the money. Ship Quality

Watch out for on-board expenses by
Gary from San Diego, CA Sailing date: Feb 2010Pros: The staff is wonderful and very friendly. Cons: Price of drinks, etc. during cruise I think all cruise ships are going the way of many airlines. They're offering reasonable prices on the trip, but then overpricing their drinks, photos, excursions, etc. Most people I talked to spent more on their on-board charges than they paid for the trip. Ship QualityThe ship was fine, but decor is very plastic and glitzy. This style is becoming dated. Dining/FoodMost of the food was excellent. Stateroom QualityThe stateroom was excellent. Ship Staff QualityGreat staff. They really made the cruise enjoyable. Entertainment & ActivitiesThe theater shows were better than expected, but the other activities were routine and dated. 5 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

Eight Days is a Little Long by
Tom C from Los Angeles Sailing date: Oct 2009Pros: Zihautenejo / Ixtapa Cons: nearly five days at sea After two and a half days, we finally arrived in Acapulco and were anxious to get off the ship. It was rainy and very warm, causing some guest's shore excursions to become unavaialble or undesirable. Carnival allows exchanges. We found a $25 city tour which lasted four hours, immediately after debarking. This was great, especially compared to the $50pp that the ship was charging for the same tour. There was a subtle military presence, and they have new special police visible in case of trouble from narcotraffikcers, but it was not obtrusive as other reviewers have commented. You have to pay $7 to get a good view of the cliff divers, but they can be seen from the road for free -- at quite a distance. The restaurant also charges to come inside and watch and you may not get a good seat.
Next was Zihautenejo and Ixtapa. Again, we found a local taxi to drive us around all day, including the special islands mentioned in the shore excursions. They will only give you 10 pesos per dollar compared to the current 12-13. It would help to have some pesos in advance to save a few dollars, but this is not a showstopper. This port was considered by all guests we talked to to be the most beautiful stop along the way. It was amazing to enter the bay and look around. It took Carnival about 30 minutes to get everyone going ashore to their destination at the dock.
The final stop was Manzanillo, a very industrial port. $4 is the bus fare to go downtown and shop. The Internet cafes here only charge a couple of dollars for 20 minutes of time and will throw in a coke. Do not use the shipboard Internet, it is slow as molasses and is very expensive. Here you will also find dozens of cab drivers willing to take you around all day for $40. The English of the driver is not so good and their cabs are old. Share it with another couple. It costs alot of money to go inside the Las Hadas and will disappoint. You can easily see it from the above hillsides for free.
Two days at sea follow, and it seemed that the slot machines turned really cold for all. There were alot of humorous games to watch. You will not forget the cruise director, Stu. The Halloween party was a hoot along with "Men's Hairy Chest" and "Newlywed" games. Booze is expensive on board and seemed fairly easy to put into water bottles. The liquor stores provided spouts for this purpose..... Ship Quality
