Relaxing Cruise by
A Traveler from California Sailing date: Oct 2011Pros: Great food and service Cons: Engine vibration in back of ship Beautiful ship overall. Great service and friendly people. Nice gym for working out. The jogging track on deck 10 was way too small, so mostly used the treadmill. No deck to walk all the way around the ship, so if you like to walk, you will miss that. We had a mini suite in the very back corner of the ship, deck 5. It was nice, but we constantly felt the vibration of the engine, so made it hard to sleep. The vibration was also apparent in the main dining room on deck 3, aft, for several evenings. The ship gave a stable and smooth cruise, but the vibration in the back of the ship was a little annoying at times. Entertainment was enjoyable. They offered family friendly shows. Ship Quality

Great cruise for the money spent by
A Traveler from Corona, CA Sailing date: Oct 2011Pros: Great entertainment Cons: Long wait and lines to get off the ship at ports We took the Carnival Spirit on a 5 day cruise to Cabo San Lucas. Very good food up on the Lido Deck. We had a balcony cabin which was the fist on up at the bow and it had a large intake grill that made the balcony uncomfortable and noisey to use. Entertainment and comedy club acts were first rate. The tendering to the port was extremely slow. Cabo has lots to do. Your time dining was great. Service was excellent everywhere. Good value for the money. Ship Quality

  Had a great time by
Al K. from Chicago, IL Sailing date: Aug 2011Pros: The scenery was phenomenal Cons: Not geared towards middle aged singles (ok, I know, it was Alaska, not the Caribbean :) ) This was my first cruise. I sailed on the Carnival Spirit on the 7 day cruise to Tracey Arm Fjord, with stops in Skagway, Juneau, Ketchican, and Victoria (Vancouver Island). The ship was great. I still can't get over how large these cruise ships are...they are literally floating cities. It was very well maintained and in good repair. Also, it was pretty easy to find good spots for photos and such even during the high demand times. The only real criticism is that it would be nice to have an unlighted area for star gazing at night (well, for the one night out of six when you can actually see stars in that part of the world :) ). Ship QualityGreat ship. As I said above, it would've been nice to have a small area dedicated to star gazing somewhere on the top of the ship (i.e. no overhead lights, etc.). Other than that, no complaints. Any spills or other problems were cleaned up right away...the staff and crew kept things looking good. Dining/FoodWhile I spoke with some very experienced cruisers who would disagree with me on this, I thought the food was outstanding. Being hungry was never a problem on this ship. The restaurant staff who ended up serving you got to know your likes and dislikes, and if you didn't like what you were eating, no problem...just order something else :) Stateroom QualityNice sized room. It would be nice if they would make a few singles rooms, though, so we could cut down on the cost a bit...I feel like I'm being punished for being single (which, in a sense, I am already anyway...I don't need to get an additional financial penalty as well). Ship Staff QualityIt was like sailing with the United Nations as far as the staff is concerned. It was nice getting to meet people from such a wide variety of countries. They were all very friendly and extremely helpful. Entertainment & ActivitiesOne of the downsides that kept cropping up (especially starting around day 3 or so) was repetition. If I don't hear YMCA, Electric Slide, Celebration, and Happy Birthday for another 10 years I'll be a happy individual. Not only in the dance clubs, but the live bands, too. It just seemed like there was a limited play list, and it got old after a while. Also, the comedians were a bit of a disappointment. Same basic criticism...if you're putting on a 1/2 hour show and you're doing 4-6 shows over 3 days (half of which are adult only shows), there is no excuse for not having new material at each show. Especially when you're headliners.
Another downside was the singles gatherings . They had two of them: one for mature people (which seemed like it was 60 + ), and a second for 18+. There wasn't anything for middle aged people. Plus, the 18+ gathering started at 10:00 pm on the first night. Personally, my day started at 3:30 am that day, so I was spent by 10:00 pm. Children's ProgramsWhile I don't have children of my own, I heard from several parents aboard that there were a ton of things for the kids to do. For the most part, they weren't under foot too much from my perspective.

Juneau, AlaskaExcursion-wise I went sea kayaking and took a helicopter ride out to a glacier. I felt the helicopter ride was a bit stiff (the staff was very professional, but not really warm, nor overly interested in meeting with visitors). The sea kayaking staff was much better. Juneau was the nicest of the Alaskan ports. Many of us agreed that it's really a shame we didn't get to spend a full day there. Some friends ran into a couple of bears while on one of the hiking tours.
Don't Miss: Sea kayaking. Ketchikan, AlaskaWent on a zipline excursion here which was a lot of fun. We were really short on time, though, so I didn't get to see much of the town.
Don't Miss: Zip-lining Skagway, AlaskaI had two excursions while here: Horse back riding, and rock climbing. Both excursions were great. Because the excursions took up so much time, though, I didn't get to visit the town (though I'm told most of the town could be viewed in a very short amount of time and doesn't offer much more than restaurants and shopping (lots of jewelry stores)).
Don't Miss: For me, it was the rock climbing tour...great group of guides running that one. Victoria, British ColumbiaA group of us took a quick walk into town, and then had to head back to the ship. No where near enough time to even start exploring this island. Having been there before, though, I remember it's a great place and you need several days to really appreciate it.

  A cool cruise by
Gwendy A. from Centennial, CO Sailing date: Jul 2011Pros: This cruise, besides being to an area of spectacular scenery, offered a break from the heat of mid-summer! Cons: A couple of the stops were so short it was hard to fit in an excursion or really enjoy the port. We recently returned from a cruise to Alaska aboard the Carnival Spirit. What a beautiful ship and friendly staff! The itinerary included spectacular scenery in the Tracy Arm fjord and stops at quaint towns along the way. We would highly recommend this particular cruise. Juneau, AlaskaThis port provided a lot of jewelry stores, in which we were not that interested, but others may be.
Don't Miss: The gold panning and salmon bake were incredible. Definitely worth the time. Ketchikan, AlaskaWe loved this quaint little fishing village. It was fun to watch from our balcony as all the seaplanes came and went. Would have liked a little more time there.
Skagway, AlaskaSkagway is a cute town with lots of shopping and history.
Don't Miss: We really enjoyed the White Pass and Yukon Railroad excursion. Victoria, British ColumbiaWe just didn't have much time to enjoy this port. The walk downtown was pleasant. And the Empress Hotel and parliament buildings are beautiful.

  Great Cruise by
Chris C from MS Sailing date: Jun 2011Pros: Alaska was beautiful. You can't imagine the views! A balcony room is a must for the whale watching. The staff was wonderful. Good dining options. Complimentary rooms service was a kid's dream. Cons: Not enough signage. It was hard to find areas like the gym and arcade. First time cruising. We are hooked. If you are looking for a great staff, fun activities, great shore excursions, and a great family time, this is it. The room was nice. The room attendant was great. There was always someone around if we needed something. Ship QualityThe ship was clean was plenty of activities while at sea. We enjoyed sitting on the Lido deck whale watching. Dining/FoodThere was always something available. My son loved the grill with hot dogs and cheese fries and ice cream available 24 / 7. Stateroom QualityOur room attendant was wonderful. We didn't really see her that much but the room was cleaned spotless twice a day. We couldn't wait to get back to the room in the evening to see what towel animal was waiting. Juneau, AlaskaThe highlight of the trip was the helicopter tour and dog-sledding excursion. I would return to Juneau just to experience that again. A great family experience.
Don't Miss: Dog Sledding / Glacier Helicopter Tour Ketchikan, AlaskaMore jewelry and t-shirt shops. Not enough time to really enjoy the port and see the sites.
Skagway, AlaskaThe Steam Engine Train ride was a wonderful family experience. The scenery was beyond beautiful.
Don't Miss: Steam Engine Train Tour Victoria, British ColumbiaBeautiful! We didn't have a lot of time. A guided tour is a must to get the full experience.
Don't Miss: The rickshaw bike tour was a blast. The personal tour was great. 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

La Paz, MexicoWe went to the city as well as the beach. I so wished I wouldn't have picked this location and went to Puerta Vallarta instead. Its a place I will never go to again, or if I go on a cruise wouldn't bother getting off. So glad I didn't book an excursion
Cabo San Lucas, MexicoHave to take a tour around the Arch and Lovers Beach and seal colony. I have been to Cabo twice the snorkeling when we went this time was awful the water was way too cold and barely could see any fish. We had gone in August of last year and the snorkeling was way better
Don't Miss: To see the Arch and lovers beach 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
