Spotless Ship, Snappy Service
by Kevin B. from Hartford, Ct area
Sailing date:
Mar 2012
Pros:
Cleanliness of ship, excellent customer sevice, great food
Cons:
some difficulties getting prompt bar service at times
I was comfortable coming into this cruise that the service and food would be of a high quality. Celebrity Eclipse didn't disappoint in either category. Almost all staff members that we encountered offered a smile and genuine interest in making our stay aboard comfortable. Our waitstaff in the main dining room provided smiles and service particularly noteworthy. Humor was often the rule of the evening and our table was gifted by an outstanding team. Our only minor disappointments were encountered on deck when one pool area roaming bar waiter was less than enthusiastic or charming as he conducted his duties. We also struggled to get our order taken a couple of time at the admittedly busy Martini bar....we resolved this issue by retiring to a nearby cloistered cubby, where a waiter promptly took our order. In these days of concern about onboard safety, we were well educated and informed of procedures and skills of the staff in an emergency situation. We attended an informative discusssion on navigation and walked away very impressed with the profesionalism and high level of training and procedures established aboard the Eclipse. We would strongly recommend the ship and hope to travel with Celebrity again soon.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Originally, I was skeptical about being aboard a ship over 100,000 tons. i love the sea and was concerned it might not feel as though I were really on the ocean. No worries, as the ship was well laid out with plenty of "elbow room", quiet areas and well-decorated public rooms. To my pleasant surprise, the ship proved not to be too large or "hotel like" for my tastes.
Dining/Food
Very high quality of staff and food. Particularly noteworthy were the Murano Restaurant and the Main Dining room (often underestimated in these times of optional upcharge retaurants...).
Stateroom Quality
Largest and most comfortable stateroom I've ever been in. The balcony proved to be well worth the additional expense and the location on the port side just below the bridge made for excellent viewing of scenery.
Ship Staff Quality
With only a couple of small glitches, the Eclipse staff showed a genuine interest in our wellbeing and displayed pleasant attitudes. A discussion with the future cruise department proved to be unfruitful as they were apparently shorthanded. We got a supervisor who was clearly under the gun timewise and didn't spend the time reviewing possible trips as we would have wished.
Entertainment & Activities
There was music all over the ship almost all of the time...We truly appreciated the different types of music and the skill of the musicians. Floor shows were well-laid out but we didn't book this cruise for the entertainment. If that is what you are onboard for, go to Vegas...a cruise ship is all about the experience of being aboard ship and visiting various ports.

Cons:

Gorgeous ship.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Elegant ship. Well laid out and easy to find one's way around.
Dining/Food
Food was a little bland-needed more flavor. Fish, while not bad, seemed like it could have been fresher, based on a small sample (probably a bit difficult on a ship). Overall, the dining was very pleasant and enjoyable. Loved having breakfast on the fantail just outside the 14th level cafe.
Stateroom Quality
Very nice. Large oceanview window- felt like we were on our own yacht close to the water. Immaculate. Wanted to take the bed home with us.
Ship Staff Quality
Very polite and attentive.
Entertainment & Activities
Enjoyed all the shows. Music everywhere, sometimes where you would just as soon have quiet. A capella group "Uncommon Ground" was great, as were all the entertainers.
Children's Programs
We didn't have children along, but enjoyed watching them parade by singing their pirate song. They seemed to be enjoying themselves. In fact, we didn't see many children which was a pleasant change from the mobs of them on our last cruise during a Christmas vacation some years ago (not Celebrity).

Pros:
Ship service by waiters, cabin stewards, etc. was top notch
Cons:
the 750 gay dudes in banana hammocks that booked the same cruise
It was clean, huge, and staffed well. The ship met every expectation I had of what a modern cruise ship should be.

Not. The Typical Celebrity
by Just a gal from Denver,CO
Sailing date:
Nov 2011
Pros:
The entertainment and ports
Cons:
Dining room service, lack of organization and attention to detail
Dining room took excessively long to prepare meals and deliver to table. My six year old ordered a simple cheese pizza from the kids menu and it came out way over cooked and hardly had any cheese at all. The Oceanview Cafe was unprepared the night we ported at San Juan. There was only a few slices of pizza, a picked over salad bar and not much else except a mob of hungry angry passengers who returned from an evening in port. Took the staff over an hour and a half to bring the restaurant up to speed by getting additional help and finally at least getting some hot dogs and hamburgers going. The photo staff was great at taking pictures but awful when it came to filling orders. Long lines of frustrated people trying to pick up photos. Too few employees to help, incorrect orders, orders that weren't ready on time and overall just a poor representation. I waited in line an hour twice trying to get my photos and they still misspelled the family name I had PRINTED for them on the cards I ordered.

Cruised Celebrity before and always was impressed. Not sure why this one was so bad. I hope its isolated to this ship and can be corrected with personnel and mgr changes.

Shedding winter doldrums
by A Traveler from Philadelphia
Sailing date:
Mar 2011
Pros:
Pristine, new ship
Cons:
Inadequate swimming pools
Ideal cruise for resting and rejuvenating after a harsh winter. The food was better than expected and the staff were very pleasant and responsive. The ports were unremarkable but enjoyable, nonetheless. The Cruise ship recommended excursion on a catamaran ride to a Cozumel beach was choppy and rough and much too long. An Orbitz booked excursion to a beach in Roatan proved to be a bit unsavory as the driver took us on an unrequested detour and questionable stop on the island before returning to the pier. The ship's entertainment ranged from excellent (Sound Decision A Cappella Group) to cloyingly irritating (Cruise Director Nick's overuse of "ahh-mazing" and unrelenting demand for audience to make some noise). Overall, however, this was a beautiful vacation with perfect weather.

New and sparkling!
Dining/Food
Too good! Especially enjoyed lunch at Aqua Spa Caf - a nice change from heavy eating at breakfast and dinner. Drink package wasn't needed for us. We were able to enjoy ourselves to the fullest under the influence of sobriety.
Stateroom Quality
Stateroom was intelligently laid out; sizable balcony; very quiet and well-appointed.
Ship Staff Quality
Except for some snooty sales people in the ship's onboard stores.

Beautiful Ship!
by Jon S. from Minneapolis, MN
Sailing date:
Dec 2010
Pros:
Clean, New, Nice decor, Classy.
Cons:
Hot tubs were always crowded and not open late enough
The ship was beautiful. Since it was a brand new ship this year everything was so nice and clean. If Celebrity can keep up it's appearance, they have a winner. Easy access to everything except the hot tubs which were always crowded as they only held about 4-5 adults. Also the pools and hot tubs closed too early in the evenings. Staff on board were awesome! They were very professional and helpful. On board entertainment was pretty good... Not Vegas good but not bad for a ship.

Not much at the port but make the trip to one of the beaches such as Tabyanna.
