Fine cruise, but nothing to brag about.. by Becky M from Memphis, TN
Sailing date: Aug 2012

Pros:
Beautiful ports/locations

Cons:
"Freestyle Dining"

Having only cruised once before, I was open to trying other cruise lines for comparison. I should have stuck to my initial choice of Royal Caribbean. While this cruise was fun, I found it lacked the feeling of "luxury" that was much more apparent on my previous cruise with Royal Caribbean. In booking the cruise, there is nothing stated about the "Freestyle Dining" option, or I probably wouldn't have chosen this cruise at all. The food was OK, but nothing spectacular...not nearly what one would expect for a cruise line. Staff was friendly and courteous, and rooms were clean. OK time, but would return to Royal Caribbean for future cruises.

Just Great by Kenon S from Bridgeton, NJ
Sailing date: Jul 2012

Pros:
The activities and our housekeeper Aileen are what I liked the most.

Cons:
I disliked the fact that the lock on our door did not light up and my friend and I had a difficult time getting into our room. I took three complaints before the lock was fixed on the last night we would be staying there.

Overall, I approved of the ship and its activities. There was always something entertaining to do and the staff aimed to please. I also must say that the food was excellent. I ate more steaks during my cruise than I eaten in six months.

A Nice Package by Sait Alansatan from Miami, FL
Sailing date: Jun 2012

Pros:
Crew professionalism and politeness

Cons:
Small pool on deck. Very crowded since it is arranged for "spring brake" party for most of the day and not allowing mature adults, families, and senior citizens to enjoy.

Small pool on deck. Very crowded since it is arranged for "spring brake" party for most of the day and not allowing mature adults, families, and senior citizens to enjoy. Will need more careful selection of store vendors. We purchased a bag from Bijoux Terner and on our first usage, it was torn from the zipper area. Not related to any overloading; just a manufacturing error. We were not able to replace it since the store was closed during the arrival morning back to Miami. We called BT customer line; no one replied back to our voice mail. We called the next day, voice line said mailbox is full and can't take any messages further. Unfortunately, this affect NCL's customer satisfaction at the end.

Where's the Butter??? by A Traveler from Miami
Sailing date: May 2012

Pros:
The suite was lovely and we faced front with a wonderful jacuzzi and butler

Cons:
The food must have come from the Monsanto food engineering factory. And, we ate at the specialty restaurants!

The ship was nice, however very crowded, crew lacked understanding of English beyond the simplest. If you want to drink, drink and drink, this is the cruise for you!

Hate the cruise by Aruna from Fort lauderdale, fl
Sailing date: Mar 2012

Pros:
Just shooting around the basketball and watching my little nephew dance

Cons:
Everything!!!!

The ship was boring. Food was not so good. Room attendant staff was really nice. Ship was rocking lots. No directions around ship that is clear to read to where to go. Front desk staff not so friendly. Boring ship entertainment sucks and nothing to do. The anticipated activities were too late at night and boring. Children activities were too early in day, nothing after 6pm. Pool looks nasty and small. Not kid friendly. Boring arcade. Rooms are ok. Very old ship. I rather stay in a nice hotel and fly to a destination than go on this cruise. Nowregion sucks. Bottom line it was absolutely boring. My entire family didnt like this.

Excellent Cruise - Highly Recommend! by Nathan E. from Charleston, WV
Sailing date: Mar 2012

Pros:
Norwegian Sky is "just right" - not too big, not too small. Plenty to do on board, but plenty of latitude to do nothing at all as well. Staff and crew were exemplary. Food was excellent. Private island, Great Stirrup Cay, is truly wonderful.

Cons:
Bus tour of Nassau showed too much of the "slums" - made us feel a bit sorry for the native Bahamians.

My wife and I were both very impressed with our 3-day cruise on the Norwegian Sky. Every aspect of our experience was truly wonderful. In particular, we appreciated the "Freestyle Cruising" that Norwegian is famous for... doing what we want, when we want, and with whomever we want (which was usually just the two of us). Our favorite experience overall was floating and swimming around Great Stirrup Cay together. We spent most of our Saturday doing "nothing" in the waters of this magnificent island, and we could not have been happier. The only thing we might change when we plan our next voyage would be our plans for Nassau. We took a bus tour this time, but now that we have seen what the island as a whole is like we would probably opt to walk around through the areas near the port instead. Atlantis resort was very nice, but in order to do anything over there (such as use their private beaches) you have to pay Atlantis quite a bit of money (which we were unwilling to do). Our tour guide was very friendly, however, and it was nice to learn a little about the history and culture of Nassau. There was always plenty to do on board, from dance parties to bingo to gambling to karaoke to art auctions, etc. etc. etc. The greatest thing about all these activities, though? My wife and I never once felt like we were left out or missing out on anything when we opted to just spend time together watching the sun set, enjoying a romantic dinner together (just the two of us), sipping tea and Diet Pepsi while watching the ocean slip by us, floating around aimlessly in the beautiful Bahamian waters off of Great Stirrup Cay, or even just lounging around in our stateroom watching one of the two movie channels (which are both provided at no extra charge). All things considered, this was one of the best vacations I have ever had. (Please note that we did not rate the "Children's Programs" for the Norwegian Sky as we did not bring any of our six children with us on this cruise. It was just the two of us, enjoying our 10th anniversary together.)

Ship Quality
While some might argue that the Norwegian Sky is too small in comparison to the newer, larger cruise ships, my wife and I felt that it was perfectly proportioned and distributed. In fact, we spoke with many of our fellow passengers who said that the Norwegian Sky was "just right" - not too big, not too small. You could tell that the crew took very good care of the ship. It was always very clean, neat, tidy, and well-lit. Some of the designs on the carpet and decor looked a bit dated, but even the dated elements did not look worn or dirty. While neither my wife nor I are handicapped, we took special note of how every aspect of the ship was handicap accessible. There were several passengers in wheelchairs, and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves immensely. The staff even brought out a special "beach" wheelchair with fat sand tires for use on Great Stirrup Cay.

Dining/Food
Our experiences with dining on the Norwegian Sky were exquisite. Every evening we were able to have a romantic dinner, just the two of us, and we never even needed a reservation! We just strolled in whenever we felt like, and we were immediately brought to a table and attended to with no waiting. The two main dining halls are as nice as any of the nicer restaurants that my wife and I have ever been to. The food was excellent, and the waiters and waitresses were very attentive and accommodating. We enjoyed it so much, in fact, that we never felt the need to pay extra to eat at any of the three "specialty" restaurants on the Norwegian Sky. If they are even a modest degree nicer than the two main dining halls then they must provide a truly spectacular dining experience. I cannot stress enough how convenient and relaxing it was to have total freedom over when and where we wanted to eat. For this reason alone it would be difficult for us to choose another cruise line over Norwegian.

Stateroom Quality
Our stateroom was very nice. We were quite satisfied with the size of the room. The bathroom was even a bit larger than I had thought it would be. We were pleasantly surprised to find that there were two on board movie channels playing fairly recent movies for no extra charge. The staff cleaned the room frequently without ever intruding on us. When we first arrived there was some sort of heavy fragrance in the air. We put in a request to have the staff refrain from using such things in our room during the length of our stay, and they complied flawlessly. We also found that the temperature of the water in our shower tended to fluctuate quite a bit, but this did not cause us any major issues. For the most part, we appreciated the location of our stateroom. We had chosen one which was very close to the Atrium elevators. The only downside was its position directly below the "stage" up on the pool deck, which meant that we could hear some of the louder music they played up there.

Ship Staff Quality
We were very pleased with the excellent service we received from the ship staff. They were friendly, warm, attentive, courteous, informative, helpful, generous, hard-working, and kind. Seldom did we ever have to "hunt" for someone to help us with anything; there always seemed to be someone nearby who was willing and able to assist us with whatever we needed. Our room was always kept clean, the common areas were always neat and tidy, and the dining halls were immaculate. Even the frequently-used tables in the large buffet area covering most of decks 11 and 12 were cleared and cleaned and restocked with napkins and silverware almost immediately after they were vacated. Perhaps most importantly of all, my wife and I were struck by the fact that all of the staff seemed to really enjoy what they were doing. They seemed genuinely pleased to to take care of our every need, and never once did they lead us to believe that what they were doing for us was a burden or a chore.

Entertainment & Activities
While there was plenty to do on board, my wife and I opted not to participate in, well, pretty much any of it. That being said, we are quite certain that lovers of activities and entertainment will not be disappointed by the options and schedules available on the Norwegian Sky. There was always something going on somewhere on the ship, and there seemed to be a little bit of everything for all different age groups and temperaments. The "Freestyle Daily" that was delivered to our stateroom every day (naturally) had a detailed schedule of all of the events occurring over the next 24 hours, so it would be easy to plan your day accordingly. The only reason that I did not feel comfortable granting this category the top rating is because my wife and I voluntarily chose not to participate in any of the activities. (See my "Ship Quality" comments for more information).

First time cruiser by Emily L from Richmond, VA
Sailing date: Feb 2012

Pros:
Food

Cons:
Constantly trying to get money out of you

Overall, I had a great time. It was my first cruise and I went with a friend who had been on many cruises. The food was great and we didn't spring for any of the upgraded dining options - we had the buffet every morning for breakfast and a sit-down dinner. The stateroom was small, but sufficient for two people. Small bathroom but everything worked fine. The ship was fairly rocky most of the time it was at sea. I get bad sea-sickness so I made sure to take medicine every day. The thing that I found the most annoying was the cruise ship's constant attempt to milk money out of you at any chance they got. There were very few entertainment options that didn't involve an additional fee, they were constantly taking pictures of your group to sell to you later, the drinks were served in souvenir cups that you weren't asked if you even wanted but were charged extra for, etc.

A precious moment in time by Kacey from Michigan
Sailing date: Jan 2012

Pros:
Norwegians Private Island

Cons:
The hassling waiters and waitress and the picture taking.

Everything that I expected it to be. Beautiful weather. The cabin size was fine for the two of us, just like a small travel trailer. showers were fine and hot. If you can figure how to work them just ask. Food was overwhelmingly great! especially in the dining areas. Allot of people but we were able to move around the ship with no problems. The view from the ship were like you are in some exotic location that you only see on TV.

A solid introduction to cruising by Jeff B from Chicago, IL
Sailing date: Jan 2012

Pros:
The overall experience and staff treatment was A+.

Cons:
Some of the food was hit or miss.

NCL Sky gave me a very solid introduction to cruising. A 4 day trip was timed just perfectly. Not too short, and not too long. No full days at sea. All in all, once the seasickness of the first day (apparently an abnormally rough stretch of water) wore off, the cruise experience was delightful. I'll cruise again for sure.

The ship was beautiful - and as the Sky is one of the smaller NCL ships, I didn't find myself overwhelmed after the first few hours of "wow, this is big" wore off. Maps were posted everywhere, and while I got turned around a lot, I always had a pretty good idea of where I was. Everything looked very well taken care of.

Dining/Food
The food on Norwegian Sky was neither as good as people have said, nor as bad. With the exception of the lobster the first night - which was very disappointing - everything was at least good. There were a few dishes that stood out, but on the whole, the food was very consistently good but not amazing. Maybe I'm just spoiled. With that said, the specialty restaurants were absolutely worth the extra cost. The sheer quantity made me enjoy the gym more...

Stateroom Quality
I was surprised at how much bigger the oceanview stateroom was than what I pictured. Sure, it's small, but it never felt cramped. The shower was better than several hotels I'd been to, and the bedding was very clean and very comfortable. Would have preferred a room further from the front of the ship (the front is apparently more prone to motion), but all in all, no complaints from me.

Ship Staff Quality
It was almost ludicrous how much the staff does for guests. I'm a pretty independent guy who likes doing things for himself, and at times I felt a little guilty that staff did as much for me as they did. But there is no question that they were all going above and beyond to serve the guests.

Entertainment & Activities
I tried some of the entertainment, and as an early 30-something, I found it all pretty typically cheesy and not really aimed at me. But that's fine, because I was perfectly happy to entertain myself on the deck or at the ports of call.
