We thoroughly enjoyed it and of the 7 cruise lines we have sailed, Holland America and Celebrity are our favorites. The food was excellent as was the service. Our only disappointment was a blocked off promenade deck that did not allow our long around the ship walks that we enjoy so much. The entertainment was great and no embarrasing moments, no belly flop contests or sexy leg contests. Good trip. Cons: Frankly, some of the other passengers - working hard to be This was our first cruise and we were very impressed. Excellent service from beginning to end - great shore excursion choices - amazing food - great on-board entertainment and activities for all ages and physical abilities. There was a wide range of ages on our cruise - from singles, couples with babies, teens, young adults, on to the elderly (although there weren't many of these), with a number of countries represented and quite a cross-section of the U.S. Service was absolutely excellent - we had no complaints. Guest Services promptly and professionally handled a few small issues we had, to our total satisfaction. One shore excursion was cancelled for reasons beyond the control of the ship, and we were promptly credited with the cost. We had staff assigned to our room and evening table, who remembered details like who drank decaffeinated coffee. I have never experienced such courteous and professional service - it was such a pleasure. Ship Details: Ship Quality Loved the ship - very clean, comfortable, and pleasant. Dining/Food Food was excellent and abundant - served all hours. We chose select dining for dinner, with reservations each night. The food and service were both outstanding. For breakfast and lunch we did the buffets, which had a wide and varied choice of food - all excellently prepared. Stateroom Quality We had a balcony stateroom which we loved - enough room to be comfortable and stow clothing and possessions out of the way, with a very pleasant balcony to enjoy the ocean views and often, for breakfast in our room. Ship Staff Quality The ship's staff was unfailingly pleasant, helpful, and professional. The meals were exquisite, whether in the dining room or one of the many buffet area. The ship never felt crowded, despite accommodating over 2,000 guests. The entertainment was excellent, a good variety, and in good taste. Daily tour information and shopping tips were helpful. Several venues were offerred for days at sea. Overall Rating: About the Reviewer: Age: 50 - 65 Cruise Experience: First cruise Traveler Type: Singles/friends Stateroom Type: Oceanview 12 Day Mediteranian Cruise 2009 by Kimberly H. from Seattle, WA Sailing date: Jun 2009 Pros: Lot's of ports to visit Cons: Lack of hours of operation & no variety of buffet food I have mixed feelings about this cruise. It was quite expensive and things shut down around 9:00 to 10:00 PM. My room was tiny, but I spent very little time in it so that was not an issue. The staff basically bent over backwards to serve you seemlessly. I got ill one day and had to cancel an all day excursion and they refused to refund my money for that. Big tip; just book your excursions one day in advance. As you go you will learn from others which excursions are value added and which ports are best to just catch a cab or train for very little money. The cuiseline will give you maps of the best places to visit. You can save hundreds of dollars this way. This cruise is definatly not for solo travelers, I believe I was the only one on the ship... Ship Details: Ship Quality They could have more deck chairs, if you sleep past 7am they are all reserved by fellow travelers Dining/Food I only ate in the restraunt one time due to the early seating or conflict with the shows. The buffet gets old fast. They server the exact food every day, but the room service is a god send. Stateroom Quality Very nice but small Ship Staff Quality the butlers were excellent. The shore excursion people blew me off several times. Guest relations & others were great. Entertainment & Activities Comedy was great. Movies & bingo were fun. Casinio is tiny but fun. The other shows were all geared to older crowds. Don't Miss: Vatican Dubrovnik, Croatia Walk from the ship, it is close! The entire city is very cool!! Walk the city wall if it is not too hot out. There is tons of great people watching & shopping. You will love this city. Don't Miss: The city wall Santorini, Greece Awesome beautiful city Don't Miss: Great views, 4 wheeling!! Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy You must not miss spending about 20 minutes at the leaning tower. Florance is a wonderful city to visit Don't Miss: Leaning tower of Pisa Naples, Italy Great city. There is just tons of fabulous architecture to see. Piraeus (Athens), Greece This is a nasty dirty city. The only good part is the Acropolis. Be careful not to get lost in the tiny little streets, you will miss your tour bus. Don't Miss: Acropolis Venice, Italy It was awesome but there was some sort of religious holiday so most things were shut down. Regardless there was enough to see to keep me busy all day. Cons: The Food was horrible and cleanliness was awefull!!!!!! All Beverages are way overpriced and they didnt let you have anything but water for free after breakfast. The check in and out were most smooth. Cons: Rather subdued party atmosphere, elevator music sessions. The ship was beautify decorated. There was not some of the amenities seen elsewhere such as a golf simulator, climbing wall or mini golgf course but what was there was all very nicely maintained. Very clean and well managed. Ship Details: Ship Quality Ship layout was fiine even wirh the large crowd we carried. Staff were always willing to help when asked. Dining/Food Food was first rate. Menues had a good variety. Seafood lovers would enjoy the many offerings. Only problem was that we found MSG or other additives must have been added. We had some reactions to food at times. Stateroom Quality The room was tight at the foot of the bed to walk by. Other than that it was nicely decorated and quite adequate. We do not cruise to spend time in the room. Ship Staff Quality Crew were always helpful and also had a sense of humor. That sense helped us all enjoy the time spent with them. Entertainment & Activities Entertainment is not their strong suit. It was good but not innovative in any way. The bands were sedate with easy listening style of music. You can walk all over and feel secure. Minibuses everywhere to take you on tour. Public buses good and cheap to the beaches. Don't Miss: Beaches are beautiful. Rent a cot and relax. St. George's, Grenada Went out on a sailboat for fun. swimming and beaching. Most enjoyable. Don't Miss: Walk up to the town square market well beyond the tourist trap shops on the docks. Kralendijk, Bonaire More easy going, laid back approach to living here. Don't demand fast service. They have "no worries, mon". Don't Miss: Famous for the diving. Roseau, Dominica Tubing down the river rapids was a fine time and the rum punch gave a real kick. Just not for wee children. Don't Miss: RAINFOREST Philipsburg, St. Maarten It rained and blew! In St. Maarten it is always sunny, I thought. Worked out as we went out n the Americas Cup race and had a rolicking time. Faux designer purses and other items, and watches (Chinese Rolex) are best prices here. The specialty restaurant, the Normandie, was very nice, but the food was not as good as the Emerald Room specialty restuarant on the Carnival Glory. The organization for the shuttle at the pier into downtown Bridgetown was classic Caribbean chaos at best. We gave up and shopped at the pier. St. George's, Grenada We went to Morne Rouge (spelling?) beach for the day and it was very nice. Make sure you are abundantly clear with the cab driver where you want to go as they don't listen very well. Don't Miss: Spices are cheap Roseau, Dominica Trafalgar Falls was very pretty and we found the island people mpore friendly and less aggressive than on other islands. The Champagne Reef snorkeling was pretty nice as well. Scarborough, Tobago We went to Pidgeon Point Beach Club on an excursion. It was very nice. Philipsburg, St. Maarten St Maarten is always a good stop. We stayed in Philipsburg and used the public beach right at the port to save the cab fare to Orient or another beach on the French side. WE actually just stayed at the beach and took a water taxi back to the boat instead of heading back when excursion was over...gave us 3 extra hours on the beach... Roseau, Dominica It was Carnival so the "natives" were drunk and who knows what else...and there was an accident one of the excursions and there were 14 people with VERY serious injuries - roads are TERRIBLE...very poor...felt a little unsafe here... The layout of the ship was very poor (sailed last year on Royal Carribean Voyager of Seas-bigger and much easier to find your way around), the condition was Fair at best(was going in for electrical overhaul after this shortened cruise). The staff was friendly and excellent except for of all things, the guest relations department. Would recommend a more up to date ship, and prob more things to do. One minus was that you HAD TO PAY for using the steam and saunas (very cheesy), the only time in 4 cruises with different lines in which I had to. One more point is concerning deck smoking..It seems that you can smoke anywher on either side which is a problem for a non smoker like myself. The rules should be spelled out, or signage for it is horrible to have to breath that crap in, on a clear beautiful day at sea. Ship Details: Ship Quality horrible ... Dining/Food much better than bland food on Roayal, Costa, Carnival Stateroom Quality Ship Staff Quality guest relations needed a bit of a refresher course on the topic. March 2006 was our first Celebrity cruise. We had heard so many good things about Celebrity, we were excited to experience it for ourselves. We were impressed by the extent the waiters went to make each meal, whether in the main dining room or the buffet, a dining experience. From the napkins on the trays to the waiters carrying our trays to our tables at breakfast and lunch to the fantastic service in the main dining room at dinner. I was surprised to find a complimentary tote bag along with a (if needed) umbrella in our cabin. The casino was even good to me. All in all it was a fantastic cruise. On the flip side, I would have liked to be at each island longer but I know that is not possible while cruising. At least we got a taste of each island and we loved it. We loved the pianist, Brooks Aehron - My husband bought two tapes and we enjoy them often. The bar tender at the Martini bar was a delite. She made our before dinner cocktail a joy. We have cruised on many other lines but Celebrity was the most unique and sophisticated line we have experienced. We hope to cruise with Celebrity again.
