This was truly and AWESOME cruise!
by A Traveler from Waterford, MI
Sailing date:
Mar 2011
Pros:
The ship was immaculate, the staff was amazing, and all of the ports of call where well planned out, and interesting. I would highly recommend this ship and cruise to anyone!
Cons:
Traveling with children during Spring Break time, meant that the small pool that was alloted to families was VERY crowded. There were 250 children on board, with their families, and probably 100 chairs by the small, family pool. During times like these, I would suggest swapping the adult pool for
The ship was beautiful, and very clean. Very impressed with the ship, and of the staff for helping everyone to remember to wash their hands and keep everything sanitary. The only negative thing was the size of the family pool. There were 250 children on board and about 100 deck chairs. It was a struggle on at sea days to get a chair on the deck. I recommend switching the family pool for the adult only pool during spring break times.

The appetizers, salads, and main entrees were fabulous. The desserts were not great at all. But, one can live without desserts!

Wait staff was absolutely amazing! Dede Maman was the best, and so great with the kids!
Entertainment & Activities
Piano bar singer was terrible, the impersonator show was terrible. The Crows Nest singer was fabulous as were Charlie and the Hal Cats.

A Wonderful Cruise
by Leslie D. from Harrison City, PA
Sailing date:

Pros:
The Stateroom balcony
Cons:
The food at the cookout on half moon bay
The ship was very beautiful and the decor was up to date and it just made you feel confortable. We loved it.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
The ship was beautiful, the decor and the layout was great and also extremely clean and everything on the ship was very accessibility.
Dining/Food
The food was delicious on the ship and the specialty restaurant was great but make sure you get your reservation in early. We only got in because of a cancellation. Book the first day of the cruise.
Stateroom Quality
Clean as can be, we loved the balcony and the bed was very confortable and we were on the 8th floor, the view was beautiful.
Ship Staff Quality
The Ship Staff was wonderful, so friendly and always wanted to meke sure you had everything. The room steward was great and so friendly. The waiters, we could not say enough they wanted to please.
Entertainment & Activities
We went to all the shows, they were wonderful, all talented performers. The Comedy Show was the best.

We just got back from Eurodam- 3 night Bahamas cruise and we were really impressed. Excellent service, the food was outstanding. The shows were great. Beautiful silk room, pools, spas and saunas. Our stateroom was very cozy, clean with a lot of storage area. We really like the way this ship is designed, beautiful restaurants, bars and library.

A very enjoyable vacation
by A Traveler from North Georgia
Sailing date:
Mar 2012
Pros:
Great cabn and food service
Cons:
Tour guide of the island of Grand Turk was hard to understand and tour consisted of nothing but seeing a hurricane ravaged island.
Great crew in all departments who make you feel very much at home.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Immaculately clean and very similar to other Holland America ships on which we have sailed.
Dining/Food
Great food overall. However, the Caesar salad was not very good on day 1 of the cruise and only slightly better on day 6 of the cruise
Stateroom Quality
Best cabin we have ever had with the best cabin stewards.
Ship Staff Quality
Miles of smiles from all crew members.
Entertainment & Activities
Great variety of programs. We especially enjoyed the Chef's optional cooking school.

an enjoyable cruise
by A Traveler from San Francisco, CA
Sailing date:
Oct 2010
Pros:
the food was generally excellent; the service was generally excellent
Cons:
everything shuts down too early; no food available after 11 pm
We were cruising to celebrate our mother's 80th birthday. We dined at Rembrandt Restaurant and the wait staff who sang her an Indonesian birthday song was so lively and entertaining! We simply loved it! Overall, we had a wonderful time.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Dining/Food
The food generally was quite delicious and tasty. In the mornings we ate at Lido; in the evenings, we generally ate at Rembrandt. There was a lot of choices. Our one dinner at the Pinnacle Grill took three hours -- for an 8 pm sitting, the waiters did not take our orders until 8:45 pm; we did not get entrees until about 10 pm. Although the size of our group may have been a factor, we all thought three hours for dinner was excruciatingly long. Our dining experience at Tamarind was excellent -- great service and delicious food!
Stateroom Quality
Very comfortable, even though there were three of us in one stateroom. There was a problem with the hot and cold water handles in the bathroom -- sometimes the only water that came out was hot or extremely hot. Luckily, two of us purchased spa tickets, which allowed us to shower in the spa area. But overall, the stateroom was clean and comfortable.
Ship Staff Quality
But for one waitperson at the beginning of the cruise, most of the staff were extremely friendly and wanting to be helpful.
Entertainment & Activities
The ship's singers were terrible -- they destroyed every song because they cannot carry a tune. So they get a "not recommended" rating. However, the guest performers such as Joel Mason and the magician were excellent. Mason tore the house down with his performances of Elton John. Jason the cruise director was also excellent -- very amenable and talented. He and Mason get "the best" ratings, which brings this to average. The shore excursions were wonderful -- Latin Traditions exposed us to a wonderful flamenco guitarist and his lovely dancers; we also parasailed and snorkeled at the Half Moon Cay.

Most Relaxing Cruise Yet!
by A Traveler from Rexburg, Idaho
Sailing date:
Apr 2010
Pros:
The Spa Pass bought on the first day
Cons:
Always the same, I don't like eating with other people I don't know.
This trip was during Easter, and Spring Break it had over 400 children. This was not a big thing to me because I love children. There were many old people bothered by kids. They need to book away for school breaks.

Cruising with HolLAND
by A Traveler from San Antonio, TX
Sailing date:
Sep 2008
Pros:
Clean, comfortable, smiling helpful staff, food was OK and plentiful.
Cons:
Types of activities offered, both excursions and on-board, were not as enjoyable as I would have liked.
The ship was beautiful, comfortable and well run. The rooms were a good size, and the public places were beautiful.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Dining/Food
The specialty restaurants were excellent, with delicious, well prepared and served beautifully. The dinners in the Rembrant Room were not very comfortable, crowded and LONG (waited until half way through dinner to get a glass of iced tea.) After the first time there, we ate in the Lido cafeteria, which was usually more comfortable.
Stateroom Quality
Comfortable, clean, good size, very comfortable beds, temp easily controlled--over all excellent value.
Ship Staff Quality
Room steward was thorough, concerned with our comfort, always accessible. We felt our belongings were safe in his hands. All the staff (with the exception of one staff member in the casino) were pleasant, smiling, always concerned with our comfort and providing our needs. The made you feel like it was a true pleasure to make our stay excellent.
Entertainment & Activities
The average age of the guests was about 70 yo. The activities reflected that, and there was little or nothing to do for guests who wanted something that required anything but a sedate walk. I would have liked more instructional programs, things about the areas we were going to visit (besides the shopping opportunities!) and the opportunity to MOVE.

Boston, Massachusetts
Went on a tour that had little or no historical content. Saw Harvard, but would rather have seen sites connected with our American heritage. Glad we had the afternoon to explore on our own, but there wasn't much direction provided about where everything of interest was and how to get there.
Newport, Rhode Island
Really enjoyed visiting the American castles. It was interesting and well done.
Ville Saguenay, Quebec
Although visiting the closed down pulp mill was interesting, driving over two hours to get there and two hours back for a 15 minute visit (no time to explore area on own) and a so-so lunch was not value added. The guide was personable, but didn't tell us very much.
Halifax, Nova Scotia
If there is a rating lower than one, I'd use it on this visit. Went to the Bay of Fundy and Reversing Falls. Spent 4 HOURS on a bus and minutes at the sites. Lunch in the local restaurant was awful. Crammed cheek to cheek into long tables, stale biscuit, canned drink (warm), greasy cookies and no menu options. We were rushed through the meal in 15 minutes and rushed out so they could seat the next busful. And the bathroom--dirty, way too small for the number of people, long lines and the smell was memorable. The whole experience was pretty much a waste of money and time.
Quebec City, Quebec
Absolutely the best experience of the whole trip. The excursion guide was extremely knowledgeable about local customs and history. He made the one hour bus ride fly by with his patter of interesting information. The stop at the St. Anne Canyon was the best--able to walk about in the beautiful setting, see the falls, get some exercise and didn't feel at all rushed. The rest of the time to visit this beautiful and interesting city was not enough. We could have spent the whole vacation there and not been bored or run out of things to do.
Sydney, Nova Scotia
First interesting experience to the wine country. The tour guide, although not the somanlie that was advertised, was interesting, had activities planned and very knowledgeable about the area. The winery tours were great.
Don't Miss:
Wineries.
Saint John, New Brunswick
Waste of time. Nothing very interesting to do. Although a pretty port, could have passed this one up without much loss.

Nice cruise, but know your crowd!
by A Traveler from Baltimore, MD
Sailing date:
Feb 2011
Pros:
Excellent staff/service, food was great
Cons:
nothing special (bells and whistles) on ship
The cruise was very nice. My fiancee and I wanted a week off, away from it all and had both cruised before. We were warned that it would be an older crowd on the ship, and this was very true. I can't say that this was a bad thing, because I wasn't looking for a big party atmosphere (Carnival), or that I wanted this cruise to be especially social. However, do know the majority of the cruises are 55+. The food was overall very good. There was a decent variety of foods and restaurants available. The staff was superb! Very friendly and attentive.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
A very nice ship, but no bells and whistles like on other cruise lines. (No putt-putt, water slide, etc.)
Dining/Food
Canaletto (separate Italian restaurant) was fabulous. And mind you, when else will you eat braised lamb one night, then filet and lobster, then crab legs, and then duck a l'orange? High end food, prepared well. If you regular major foodie cities (NorCal, Philly, NYC, Chicago) this may not completely live up to that...but you don't pay over $100 for dinner either. Put more simply: Better food than any chain restaurant, by far.
Stateroom Quality
Had a balcony, great room, decent enough room for a ship. Room very clean, but by the end of the cruise the toilet was quite smelly.
Ship Staff Quality
Fantastic staff (from Indonesia+Philippians) They were very friendly, courteous, and helpful (even when some customers were rude, which seemed to happen for no reason quite often on our cruise)
Entertainment & Activities
The magician was truly amazing. Comedian quite funny. The song and dance shows were more geared for the older crowd. The movie "theater" was a nice spot for rainy days.

NOTE: this port is far from anything you would want to do. Plan early because you need transportation to downtown, the beaches, and other scenic areas. We didn't know this. We certainly made the most of the day, but more than any port I had ever been to, this one NEEDED advanced planning (you don't need to do things through the ship, but still plan on leaving the ship early to get to wherever you want to go)
