	Overall Rating: About the Reviewer: Age: 30 - 49 Cruise Experience: 2 - 3 cruises Traveler Type: Couple Stateroom Type: Balcony A Good Cruise, Not Fantastic by Arianne T from Salt Lake City, UT Sailing date: Dec 2010 Pros: The staterooms were spacious and attractive, good service throughout the ship Cons: Very little to do onboard, food quality in the dining room wasn't as high as I'd hoped The ship itself was nice. Despite being older, I saw no signs of wear except on our balcony (it needed new paint on the floor). Everything looked updated and well decorated. Our stateroom (balcony, concierge class, deck 9) was roomy, had tons of storage, and had a nice bathroom. The linens were attractive and soft, though the beds were a bit firm. The food was good. I wouldn't say great, but good. Lots of variety. We ate breakfast in the buffet (tons to choose from-the best was the made-to-order Eggs Benedict, worst were the previously frozen pancakes). We either ate lunch at the buffet or at the pool-side grill (great burgers). The lunch buffet too had a wide variety, though quality varied depending on what you chose. Dinner we ate freestyle in the main dining room. We never had to wait, were always given excellent service, and had plenty of choices for appetizers, soups and salads, entrees and desserts. Again the food varied. Some was absolutely delicious, others tasted like high end buffet food, but not like a fine restaurant. We had dinner the last night at the buffet as we were too full for another big meal, and we found the choices of sushi, Indian food, made-to-order pasta and other items just as good as the main restaurant. Room service was the only food disappointment. Not only was the selection quite small, but the service was slow and they always got something wrong. Our food almost always lacked something that had been in the description of it and usually was missing something major like salad dressing or a side of fruit. It was like playing roulette to see if would get what you ordered. The embarkation/debarkation were always quick and smooth. We never had to wait in big lines getting on or off the ship. The excursions were nice and well-planned. The Dunns River Falls and Dolphin Swim was awesome and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Service on the ship was probably the best part. Everyone was friendly and eager to help. Our room steward wasn't overly present as they were on our previous cruise, but they did a good job of keeping the room up and meeting our needs. Ship Details: Ship Quality Don't worry about this being an older ship. It didn't show. They've done a great job of updating it, from thes staterooms to the dining rooms, to the lounges. It looked wonderful. My only complaint about the ship was the toilets. They are poorly designed so that the toilet paper sticks to the bowl and never flushes down on its own. They put toilet wands (long-handled) next to every toilet on board, so you could give your TP a scoot to where the water would catch it, but it got tannoying having to do this EVERY time you went to the toilet, in your stateroom and in public restrooms, especially for me, a pregnant woman who had to go quite often!) Dining/Food I would categorize the food as good, but not spectacular. We never did eat in the specialty restaurant, but both the buffet and main dining room varied widely as to the quality. I felt like the buffet was generally of a higher quality than the buffet on our Norwegian cruise, but not as good in the dining room as the several restaurants on our Norwegian cruise. The service and decor in the main restuarant, however, were wonderful. Stateroom Quality We had a concierge class balcony room. It was pretty spacious, had tons of storage, had a good sized, updated bathroom with a nice shower head and lots of extas. The beds were a bit firm for my taste, but not rock hard. The pillows and linens were nice. The TV was a new flatscreen. The balcony was so-so. I might not consider paying extra for it next time as we used it a lot less than I thought I would and it was rather small. Overall, I think the room was the most impressive part of the cruise. I also really liked being on deck 9. It was nicely spaced between the pool at deck 11 and the restaurant/theater on deck 7. No public rooms above or below, so it stayed quiet. And being aft, we hardly felt any rocking. Ship Staff Quality We had great service from our waiters in the main restaurant. Our room stewardess kept up on things and was very polite when we saw her, which was rare; she seemed to know when we were gone and always had things perfect by the time we got back. Every waiter or staff member in the hall said hello and smiled. We never had anyone be rude or discourteous. I think the concierge was a bit under-knowledgeable, but she was very eager to try to work things out after my husband's golf excursion got cancelled. The only really annoying staff members were the activities director and his right hand man, who dominated all the TV channels with commercials for onboard shopping and made tons of announcements but did very little actual activity directing as far as I could tell. Entertainment & Activities This is where this ship really lost points compared to our other cruise and compared to the descriptions of the other cruise lines we haven't been on. There was almost nothing to do in terms of built-in entertainment (rock walls, skating rinks, putting greens, etc.). Even the golf simulator they advertised was un-findable. We searched for it four or five times, even asked directions to it, but we could never find a door open or marked for it. So at-sea days really only had the option of sitting by the pool. We couldn't even find any shuffle board decks. As far as other entertainment, the guest comedian was excellent, but the broadway-ish numbers were like a high school production. And we never seemed to be able to find much else going on other than wine/food classes that costed a lot or lectures/classes about this and that boring thing. Nothing really entertaining . So with the last 2 days of the cruise too windy and cold for the pool, and the TV channels sparse, we were bored!!! 26 out of 26 people found this review helpful. Did you find this review helpful? Of the many times we've cruised, this trip was by far the most enjoyable. Neither my husband or myself has ever traveled on Celebrity Cruise Lines, but after this trip found we have been missing out on one of the nicest cruise lines available. The staff in every area of service was outstanding! The dining was a great experience. Both my husband and myself ate well, and noticed the lack of fried foods on the menu. We were thrilled at the flavor and quality of the meals onboard. We were delighted to find much of the food in the buffet lines were served by staff members rather than allowing patrons to help themselves. Very clean and easy to get around, friednly staff Cons: The food was dissapointing and overall entertainment not the best We were a group of ten on our senior spring break of college. We were not looking to do an MTV wild night but we were not looking to be in bed at 9 either. The celebrity century is a beautiful ship inside and out. The staterooms were big enough to fit three college guys and our steward took good care of us. Upon boarding we were given a glass of champagne and it certainly was a great way to say bon voyage. The food at the main dinner was a big letdown. Everything I had heard about celebrity was that the food was to be incredible, I found it to be just the opposite. The food was sub-par on most nights and tend to lack any real excitement. The sushi bar was a great addition and the ability to order room service all hours of the night was helpful. All of the food shutdown so early though so you were forced to eat room service instead of go up for a midnight snack, no midnight buffet on Century. The drinks were not the cheapest, on average about $8 dollars a drink. The pools shutdown at 8 and that includes the hot tubs. The casino had very low-limits which made it more enjoyable to play as I would otherwise have no money left. The shows were okay. It was a cruise ship and not Radio City Music Hall and I can understand that. We stopped at the Keys and on Grand Cayman, both islands were great and I really did have a great spring break. I just built up the food to be much better in my mind and it was a let-down. I don't really see what was so luxurious about Celebrity cruises. They don't make you feel like a celebrity, they make you feel like you should be lucky to get what you get. Ship Details: Ship Quality Beautiful Ship, well laid out. Cons: Problems with a Table for 2 This was my third cruise with Celebrity Century (13th cruise total) and I highly recommend Celebrity! They are very organized with embarkation and disembarkation. It is nice to be greeted with a glass of champagne to start vacation! The ship is smaller than the other lines and it is refreshing! Ship Details: Ship Quality The ship is older, but it is very clean and has been refurbished. Dining/Food The food was good, but not as good as on previous cruises. The menu always had steak and chicken available. Although I made reservations for a table for 2, this was a problem for the first 2 nights, but finally rectified. The dining room was not open for lunch on days in port and the menu had some odd choices. The Aqua Spa was a GREAT oasis with healthy choices! Stateroom Quality Average size. Made excellent use of space for closets and storage. Rug in stateroom needed replacing. Ship Staff Quality Outstanding ship staff! Very friendly and EVERYone made a point of saying hello! Waiters, sommeliers, and stateroom attendents were above and beyond my expectations, just incredible. We are a young married couple who celebrated our 1st anniversary onboard, and were impressed at the ship's nice mix of people. The mix was nice, not too many old people, and not too many younger people, no rude punk kids or teenagers. Ship Details: Ship Quality Great decor. Staterooms especially look great, not drab at all. Public areas not too crowded, except pool deck during at sea days. Dining/Food Main dining room food: impeccable. Looked forward to eating there every time, luckily it's open for all 3 meals a day. Island Cafe: this is the buffet that's open all the time, it was cold when we went :( They do have sushi, ice cream, stir fry, pasta, pizza that are good though! Stateroom Quality Our interior stateroom was perfect. We really didn't need a larger room! Great decor made it feel like a posh hotel. Ship Staff Quality Sommelier called us by name every time, even though we weren't "winos"! Our waiter was very well trained, and very personable--not too stuffy and not to "buddy-buddy" with us, but very respectful. Our stateroom attendant gave us towel swans, rose petals on the bed, and champagne at evening turn-down for our anniversary...free! Entertainment & Activities Some days we wanted to be busy every waking moment, other days we chilled out & relaxed, but we were able to do either & enjoy ourselves! Shore excursions in Jamaica were fun but interrupted constantly by locals offering weed, and worse drugs, and offering to braid my hair. They even grabbed one of us. Overall Rating: About the Reviewer: Age: 30 - 49 Cruise Experience: 2 - 3 cruises Traveler Type: Group Stateroom Type: Oceanview Nice Cruise by claudio G from West palm Beach florida Sailing date: Oct 2008 Pros: Plenty of things to do on ship Cons: The room is way too small The experience was pretty good.However a couple of things to be aware of:First the staterooms are too small for 3 people.The third person has to be able to climb steps to get to a bunk bed.This is better for a child.We did not have a balcony ,next time I would reccommend a balcony since window can not be opened.The room can be very confining.This is a fast paced cruise if you want to visit the cities from the port.You should reasonably fit.There is a lot of walking.Overall the experience was good ,however I prefer to stay at a hotel next time too spend more quality time in the city I am visiting. This is YOUR VACATION, so you can do with it whatever you like: relax, read, swim, work-out, run, attend a presentation about piracy on the high seas, eat, sleep, meet others, whatever! Celebrity Cruise Lines has a wide variety of choices for you -- but doesn't coerce you in any one direction. The food was delightful, and the service outstanding. We enjoyed chatting with the crew to learn about their stories... Excellent entertainment with the singers and dancers. And Louis Johnson was absolutely hilarious. Party at poolside with the talented party band, or meander to aft deck for mellow guitar tunes. The half-day in Key West and the day in Cozumel were perfect stops along the way. Next cruise: ALASKA! Ship Details: Ship Quality Stay amidships on a middle deck (deck 9) and you're within a easy walk to anywhere on the ship within moments. Dining/Food Did not try the specialty restaurant. Did not need to as the food in the main restaurant was excellent. Good choices each day, with special choices carefully and tastefully prepared. This was our first cruise and I was a little nervous about how it would go, but it was wonderful. The ship was not only clean but beautiful. And even though the ship was full, it didn't feel crowded at all. There were always plenty of seats in the bar areas. My husband is vegan and they took special care of him all week. I am also vegetarian and found that there was plenty to eat. Te only thing that was a bit disappointing was that there were not many people our age on the boat. Despite what I had read about this being a more couples oriented time of year, most of the passengers were over 75. Ship Details: Ship Quality The ship was clean and beautiful. The decor is simple and not over the top. The bathrooms were clean and attended to regularly. Dining/Food We found the quality of the food to be good. I am vegetarian and my husband is vegan so we required some special attention in the dinning room but the waiter was very helpful every night. They would show us the menu for the next day and f there wasn't something suitable they would make something specil at our request. The other dinig options were good. We certainly didn;t go hungry and we were able to find healthy options as well. The salad bar, stir-fry, made to order eggs, and plenty of fruit was available almost the whole time. The sushi bar at night was great also. Stateroom Quality I was really surprised with the stateroom. We had a balcony room with a double bed but were not in the concierge class. The room was very comfortable for two people, plenty of closet space, decent sized bathroom a comfortable bed and very nice linens. Out stateroom attendant was great. Our room was clean, there was always fresh water in the pitcher and turn down service was always done before we returned from dinner. My husband also had to have a shirt cleaned/pressed for dinner and that worked out great as well. Ship Staff Quality We found most staff to be friendly and helpful. By the end of the week they knew our names and our drink orders at the coffee bar, martini bar, and in the grand dinning room. My only complaint would be the cocktail service at the pool side- but really it was just as easy to walk over to the bar and order. Entertainment & Activities We didn't attend any of the shows in the theater. There was an art auction that people seemed to be buzzing about. We did attend the island pool party and found the baked Alaska parade at dinner to be really entertaining. The trivia and name that tune they did during the day was OK. I also took a fantastic yoga class with Bjorn one morning, and aside from not having a great space the class was wonderful. I didn't have time to attend the cooking demos or wine talks. We walked all over downtown and got a smoothie at Help Yourself which was really good. We ate lunch at The Cafe which was right off Duval street. I had a piece of Key lime pie and it was so worth it. We enjoyed the conch train ride in the afternoon. It was great to sit and hear the history of the island. We wished we had rented bikes and went down to the beach on our own. George Town, Grand Cayman We booked one of the ship excursions for this port. We were on a tour with a really nice guide who took us to the beach, the Tortuga rum factory, the town of Hell, the Turtle Sanctuary, and then out to a boat so we could visit Sting Ray City. Seing feeling and kissing the sting rays was really wild. So glad we booked that, and it was a great 30 min boat ride out to the sand bar. We enjoyed seeing some of the island via the bus. It was so easy to find everything on board and it never seemed crowded even though it was fully booked. Ship Details: Ship Quality Dining/Food I loved the fact I could order escargot every night if I wanted. Stateroom Quality We were on deck four with an oceanview. It was so convenient to everything. Ship Staff Quality The staff was professional and extremely friendly. I really appreciated that about them.
