An Amazing Cruise
by Bernard F from Moorpark, CA
Sailing date:
Jun 2012
Pros:
The sights were very beautiful and the staff was fantastic. The excursions were terrific and the sightseeing was incredible.
Cons:
The sale of gemstones in the duty-free shop. The stones were much more expensive than they should have been and one of the staff even told me the Alexandrite was from Russia and natural when natural Alexandrite was mined out in Russia many years ago. The price for ammolite was also out of line.
The ship was very clean with many interesting things to do and great restaurants. The staff was incredible and very helpful. Our room was very comfortable and the views and fresh air from the balcony was fantastic. We loved the Casino and the various bars and restaurants on board
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
The ship layout was excellent and kept very clean. Our room was very comfortable and the balcony really made our trip. Even the bathrooms were fantastic.
Dining/Food
The food was generally very good, but it could have been better. We did have some delightful meals at Cagney's steakhouse, Le Bistro, and Moderno. Our meal at Mama's was not very good and everything was cold.
Stateroom Quality
Our stateroom was a home away from home and was very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was much better than I would have thought, and we loved the layout of the room, the laundry service, our steward, and the spacious balcony.
Ship Staff Quality
The staff on board the ship was really very very good. Our steward, Rickardo (room 11032) was excellent and always kept the room clean. We loved Satanto at the Star Bar and Rey and the other bar staff at Shaker's. They really kept us entertained. Oleg at Cagney's was very good to us as was Joesephine at Le Bistro.
Entertainment & Activities
We really enjoyed the entertainment while aboard the Norwegian Jewel. The Le Cirque Bijou show was very entertaining as was the show by the magician/comedian.

A great escape
by Monica Marton from Seattle, WA
Sailing date:
Jun 2012
Pros:
excursion arrangements were outstanding, very helpful and friendly personal.
Cons:
smoking all over the ship... including surrounding balconies or verandas...
Overall experience was excellent. I would recommend limitation of smoking areas also, I think it would be beneficial for non-smokers to be surrounded by non-smoker guests. It is really annoying to get out on the balcony and inhale someone else smoke, more than to keep the stateroom balcony door closed so it would not get into the suite. I would suggest the aft and starboard to be nonsmoking both alleys, balconies and verandas. Probably the best idea would be for the cruise line to consider non-smoking policy.

Fantastic and Magical First Cruise
by Brett E from Denver, CO
Sailing date:
May 2012
Pros:
Alaska!
Cons:
Crowds of rude passengers
The ship was fantastic! There was always something to do and the staff was extremely accommodating at every turn. Everything was clean and very organized.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
A clean and well orchestrated vessel!
Dining/Food
There was plenty of variety but sometimes the food lacked flavor and overall quality.
Stateroom Quality
Our stateroom was a Mini Suite with balcony and we were thoroughly happy with our choice.. the bed was comfortable and the shower/tub has amazing water pressure and temperature.. a delightful surprise! Lots of space!
Ship Staff Quality
The staff was extremely accommodating at every turn. Our room steward was PHENOMENAL!

Ported at Ballantyne, not Canada Place
by Don S from San Jose, CA
Sailing date:
May 2012
Pros:
Food, balcony stateroom, game room, group activities, waterslide
Cons:
We ported at Ballantynew Pier, instead of Canada Place. Orbitz said we'd port at Canada Place, Norweigen said that was never the plan, so somehow I feel misled. Also a 2 hour delay in boarding at L.A. A 45-minute wait for Taxi from Ballantybe Pier to Canada Place area.
This was our first cruise experience. Overall, it seemed like a very good value, and we would do it again.

Dining/Food
Really liked the food. Only thing is, a little disappointed at the dessert selection for vegetarians. Also, a little disappointed there were not nachos served poolside, except for on the first day, perhaps due to weather (some wind on the 2nd and 3rd day, although a fair number of people were out by the pool).
Stateroom Quality
Great. Only negative are that CRT TVs are pretty small.
Ship Staff Quality
Very friendly staff. Everyone acknowledged us all the time in passing, and our housekeeping staff often greeted us by name.
Entertainment & Activities
I thought the nightly shows and music acts were very entertaining. Sometimes, during the morning and afternoon, we found ourselves a bit bored with the group activities offered, so just stayed in our stateroom, or decided to eat more at the buffet.

"Entertainment outstanding"
by A Traveler from Portland ME
Sailing date:
Apr 2012
Pros:
Entertainment
Cons:
Food
The entertainment on this cruise was the best... lots to do and see. Most of their shows were fabulous. The Hypnotist and the Comedian were the best. The crew was very friendly. The Norwegian Private Island "Stirrup Cay". was very fun and relaxing. The water is beautiful and warm. Not enough time was allowed at Atlantis for the money spent on the excursion. The food was sub par. It was overcooked and the same in every common restaurant.

BEST cruise EVER!
by Stef D. from New York, NY
Sailing date:
Mar 2012
Pros:
Amazing music, food, entertainment and energy!
Cons:
Too short!
From the moment I stepped on the ship, I felt excellent. The cabin stewards were extremely hospitable and friendly. There was always multiple forms of entertainment every night, acrobats, hypnotists, live bands, game shows, etc. The weather was beautiful, the food was excellent and never ending. I was so sad eating my last omelette before leaving the ship. I can't wait to sail again!

Nice but not perfect for small kids
by A Traveler from New York, NY
Sailing date:
Mar 2012
Pros:
the flexibility
Cons:
the lack of family activities
We took this vacation with our 2 year old and hoped for both relaxation and family time. Unfortunately, we hit bad weather and missed a beach day and were stuck inside the ship a lot because of high winds. This left us with not a lot to do since even taking a walk outside was difficult or impossible on many days. The paddling pool for toddlers is nice and enclosed, so we could use it regardless of the weather but small children are NOT WELCOME in the regular children's pool, which means families cannot swim together. The paddling pool is also often overrun with bigger kids when the large pools are busy and is not monitored at all by the ship's staff. The general pool area was extremely crowded during the few hours of sunshine we did have and finding seating was difficult. All three of us finally perched on one chair. The scheduled Nickelodeon activities are fun and the ship's staff in general are charming. I just wish that there were more options for families and for children's entertainment besides the daycare service. That's a nice perk but the whole idea was to spend time together as a family. It would be nice to have a climbing/play area for small kids where the parents are welcome to hang out too. The evening family disco time was a great idea but came off the schedule a few days into the cruise for some reason.

Dining/Food
The buffet was generally great and the flexibility in dining options is terrific for families. The quality of the specialty restaurants was uneven.

I am giving this a "poor" only because there weren't enough things for families to do together. It seemed to be a choice between leaving my toddler at the daycare area (which was good and a great perk but something I wanted to use only once in a while) or trying to keep him entertained inside the ship for days with nowhere really to go and not enough to do.

Good cruise for the money
by Linda W from Connecticut
Sailing date:
Mar 2012
Pros:
The freedom of meal times
Cons:
Not great menu selections in the free restaurants
The ship itself was great.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Dining/Food
Not the greatest choices of menu items in the FREE restaurants for dinner. The buffets morning and lunch were very good.
Stateroom Quality
This had to be the biggest shower I ever had on a ship, but the area where the toilet was, was very small. A tall or large person would probably have a problem.

by Deb D from Connecticut
Sailing date:
Feb 2012
Pros:
Clean, friendly, great food, good entertainment
Cons:
the main buffett area was over crowded at times
Can't figure out how something so large stays afloat, however, despite 18 foot seas one night, no motion sickness issues and slept like a rock.

Dining/Food
No need to pay for the specialty dining, as the complementary choices were all very, very good.

Great Family Fun
by The Mandeville Family from United States
Sailing date:
Feb 2012
Pros:
Freestyle Dining, Kids Club
Cons:
Rough Seas
We loved it. There were activities planned for every age group. The food was decent, but if you are not flexible in trying new things, you may find yourself eating the same foods over and over again, unless you upgrade to other dining options. We loved all the food and found no need to. My son absolutely loved the Kids Club. I felt comfortable while he was there and they offered a phone to contact me in case he needed me at any time. The entertainment was of good quality and a decent variety. There could have been better excursions that were less expensive than amusement parks in Florida. We just shopped and went to a local restaurant. Great Stirrup Cay was a great day to truly relax and enjoy the beach for FREE!!! Our Dolphin Encouter in Nassau was well worth it and the serenity of the included beach day and lack of crowding there was an added bonus for the price. The cons. Not much, just merely technical. Some things that were recommended for over 18 should have been at parents discretion. There were great, new movies played on the TV, but we wish we had known when some of them were playing; we could have scheduled kids naps around them. There were typographical errors on almost every document created daily on the ship. For an international travel company, this seemed to be something that one would not anticipate seeing on a daily basis, but it was and we turned it into a game after the character breakfast where star was written as strar on the menu. We only wish that we could have had longer times at the port which other ships did that were at port at the same time. Disembarkation also seemed chaotic and unprepared.

Stateroom Quality
For a family friendly ship, you only had a tub if you had a large stateroom. although this is normal, it is not easy to shower small children.
Ship Staff Quality
Abra Cadabra was the best caregiver a mom could ask for. I hope that she is recognized for her excellent service. We feel blessed to have met her. Teesh, our waiter that we loved all week was fantastic. Ocean was kind at the kids club. Richard, the cruise director, was funny and we think they could make a lot of money off of creating a bobble head doll of him. George, the assistant cruise director, had a dry humor that was funny and he did a great job of commanding the crowd.
Entertainment & Activities
God bless those dancers and acrobats when that ships was rocking like crazy!!!
Children's Programs
Again, Abra Cadabra was the best caregiver a mom could ask for. I hope that she is recognized for her excellent service. We feel blessed to have met her. she has left us with a lasting impression. We only wish we shared our address with her to keep in contact.
