A nice getaway by
A Traveler from Citrus County, FL Sailing date: Dec 2012Pros: The public rooms were beautiful Cons: Tight balcony stateroom This was our first time on a Royal Caribbean ship so we were comparing it with our (so far favorite) previous Holland America cruises. It was also the first time we chose a balcony. Loved the balcony but found the stateroom cramped. Food was good in the Tides with excellent service; in the Windjammer there were lots of choices. We did not especially like the entertainment (the last show was aborted due to technical difficulties) and the activities did not entice us. However, we had a good time, made new friends, and enjoyed being on board. Ship Quality

A nice cruise of New England by
A Traveler from Dover, NH Sailing date: Sep 2009Pros: Shore excursions were great! Cons: Food was weak unless you paid extra for a specialty restaurant. Good cruise. A lot of a la carte upcharges. Shore excursions were professional and a real treat. Most people were very pleasant. We were however left feeling a little short. We got a little frustrated with everyone telling us they usually do 12 day cruises making you feel lesser for not doing a longer cruise. Ship QualityVery nice smooth ship. Elevators seemed to have a strange programming lack of response. Smoke areas seem to be heavy with smoke. Dining/FoodThe buffets and small cafes were institutional type food. Chops Grille was fantastic for a fee. Stateroom QualityBeautiful spacious suite. Ship Staff QualityThe guest relations staff was top notch. With a few stellar exceptions, most staff lacked the level of service I would expect on a grand ship. Entertainment & ActivitiesThe entertainment lacked any significant headliners. 5 out of 7 people found this review helpful.

  A Big Letdown. by
Ani from West Bloomfield, MI Sailing date: Nov 2006Pros: The latte/capuccino self-serve machines. We were looking forward to the cruise. The food was a total let-down. The setup of the ship was very frustrating -- narrow hallways, very strange paths. The housekeeping staff granted us with a whopping 2 bath towels per day... Not such great pampering! The spa actually CHARGED you to enter their locker room, if you weren't getting a service done. It seems like they really are going through some cost-cutting. Also, the drinks were much more expensive than we can remember from other cruise lines. Pina colada costed $8. Entertainment & ActivitiesActivities: Fitness center was not impressive at all.
Entertainment: The Cirque show was great. 6 out of 7 people found this review helpful.

  Great First Cruise! by
Stephanie B. from Chapel Hill, NC. Sailing date: May 2013Pros: Delicious and plentiful food, friendly staff, 24 hour activities Cons: smoking allowed in certain public areas (casino, decks, and specific smoking bars) This was our first cruise, so we didn't really have anything to compare it to, except for "The Love Boat"! We were pleasantly surprised. There are multiple inclusive dining and snack options, including what became a nightly occurrence- room service! The food in the dining room was comparable to a VERY nice restaurant and although we only had one "formal night", it was the perfect atmosphere to try out a new dress every evening. If you prefer a more casual dining experience, the Windjammer was just great. Although a buffet, the food was always fresh and delicious and there weren't long lines to contend with.
Aside from food, there were other things to do. Activities such as "Game Shows", bingo, mini-golf, ping-pong, billiards, swimming, etc, allow for non-stop days if you wish. Or just relax on the deck on a lounge chair, while looking out at the ocean.
Our favorite lounge became the Safari Lounge, which located at the back of the ship. We would sit along the windows and watch the ocean as we sailed.
We would definitely do another cruise, and wouldn't hesitate to sail with the Jewel again. Ship Quality

Stateroom QualityThe only thing we didn't like is the fact that there was no daylight in our inner room. That made it very hard to wake up in the morning. Ship Staff Quality
