The cruise exceeded our expectations by
Sue F. from Iowa City, IA Sailing date: Jan 2009Pros: Having our own balcony; it was quiet, private, and comfortable. A must Cons: We really enjoyed the whole experience The Island Princess was well staffed, clean, and comfortable. There were ample facilities for group activities and many common areas which were comfortable for individual pursuits as well. The cruise staff were friendly and worked hard to make all the activities fun and varied. The food: top notch, varied, and way too plentiful! Ship Quality

We had a great time! by
julie z from Charlotte, NC Sailing date: Aug 2009Pros: The ship was clean and the crew was wonderful. This was our first cruise and we will definitely go back. There was plenty to do while at sea, and the crew was all friendly. The food was great, too!
When shopping - be careful to buy only made in Alaska. You have to search it out, but most of the souveniers are made in China. It's worth it to pay a little more to find the genuine article. Also look for the locally owned and operated shops when jewelry shopping. Most of the jewelry shops close up at the end of the season and go to the Caribbean, but there are some locals. You'll see signs in their window indicating they are local. Ship QualityEverywhere we went was clean, even the public bathrooms. We took a day to figure out the layout, but there are maps posted all over to use as a guide. Dining/Food

Entertainment & ActivitiesWe enjoyed the on ship activities. A pamphlet is delivered each night to lay out the following day. This allowed us to plan out just what we wanted to do.

Juneau, AlaskaWe did the whale watching and got really lucky to see about a dozen whales.
Don't Miss: The whales!! Ketchikan, AlaskaDon't buy a tour for this town. We walked the whole town in under an hour, including the totem museum. We had purchased the horsedrawn trolley tour, which was nice, but by the time we took it we'd seen everything.
Don't Miss: the totem museum Skagway, AlaskaWe took the train up to the Yukon. Wondderful views! The rest of the time we just wandered around the charming town.

  Best Family Vacation Ever! by
Vicki S. from Fort Worth, Texas Sailing date: Jun 2009Pros: Scenery, Wildlife, Cool Weather, Fantastic Food, Service & Entertainment Cons: The water in the jacuzzis was not hot enough. The back of the ship was roped off for those who were willing to pay an extra $17/day for "private views". Beautiful! Just like the real "Love Boat". Ship Quality
Dining/FoodFabulous seafood-lobster, king crab legs, etc. Service was top notch! Stateroom QualityWho needs a window when you can enjoy the views outside in the awesome cool weather? Ship Staff Quality

  Great cruise by
Larry W. from Indianapolis, IN Sailing date: Mar 2010Pros: The Panama Canal adventure Cons: Unorganized dining arrangements for free style diners The ship's size was limited because of the Canal restrictions. Travelers that have been on larger ships may be disappointed on the size and the fact that there are not as many amenities. Ship Quality

  A Valentine's Tradition. by
Lillian from Fayetteville, AR, USA Sailing date: Feb 2007Pros: The variety of venues offered. If you wanted to be alone and out of your cabin that was possible. If you wanted to be around people and doing things, that was possible as well. The versatile public accommodations were lovely. Our trip to Hawaii was over the Valentine's Day holiday. This cruise was a first for my husband. We celebrated our anniversary while on the cruise. He fell in love with cruising. I know have competition, but feel I will benefit greatly because he will want to go and I will get to tag along. We met so many great people from several countries. We got to learn about their culture and their ways to celebrate not only Valentine's Day but also other events/holidays in their countries. We took advantage of the social events offered, trivia, name that tune, Passenger Fued, Movie trivia, and many other social events. The great part about these were if you came in knowing no one, you left knowing many you can't remember. Most all of the people were eager to have someone join their team, as long as they had not met their limit of participants. We got to experience "tea". In the United States it is not a daily event, but the British and some Canadian's relish in it, we can see why, it was truly a lovely hour to visit with new acquaintances to learn and share about our lives we had left behind for 15 days. Our trip was a very enjoyable time. Entertainment & ActivitiesActivities: We participated in the general trivia and other social events. We enjoyed meeting new people. Social crew was very approachable and interacted very well with the passengers. Passengers were always encouraged to take part.. Which was personable and nice.
Entertainment: We didn't take part of the entertainment offered. Magicians and such just don't interest us. We enjoyed other interests. 8 out of 14 people found this review helpful.
