A pleasant trip except .....
by A Traveler from San Jose, CA
Sailing date:
Aug 2012
Pros:
the service provided by Indonisian and Filipino crew members
Cons:
the dishonest way of handling delay of arriving port of Victoria. Very bad
Overall, it's a good cruise. Everything worked out as expected. The service from cabin and dining room though, made this cruise line worth of reconsidering.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
the ship is very well maintained even though it has worn out a little bit. We noticed the crew constantly working on the stairs, rails. Pretty much everywhere.
Dining/Food
The food was good but not excellent. The service from dining room stewards made it shine.
Stateroom Quality
The room was very well maintained. The animal made by towel from our cabin stewards made every trip back to our stateroom a pleasant surprise.
Ship Staff Quality
The crew work in the cabin and dining room are second to none. The front desk and cafe's crew are also great. But the crew work in the GreenSpa and gym definitely need some more attitude training.
Entertainment & Activities
the singing and dancing shows were good. But you get bored after seeing the similar type of show twice.

Pros:
Being in the ports.
Cons:
Onboard items were overpriced
The Oosterdam was a nice ship, showing it's age, but nice.

A Great and wonderful cruise.
by Patricia H from CA
Sailing date:
Jun 2012
Pros:
The food and the wonderful crew. Especially our cabin stewards.
Cons:
Maybe the photo people. They lost our dinner photos. I know, I know they take twelve thousand photos a cruise.
My granddaughter and I cruised on the Oosterdam and had a wonderful time. The cabin was always kept clean and I swear the stewards never slept. They were always working. All of the crew were very helpful and friendly. The ship as a whole was very clean. We enjoyed the Crow's Nest were we enjoyed "Mocas" and a time to read, rest and watch for whales. And of course the food was outstanding.

Second Alaska Cruise with HA
by Charles G. from Frederick, MD
Sailing date:
Jun 2012
Pros:
Relaxed attentive ambiance and superioir service.
Cons:
The weather.....no fault of HA!
Overall...good. The service and staff are excellent. The entertainment was weak in a couple of spots but the main shows were professional quality. There are always plus and minus items in the food department, depending somewhat on individual taste. Cruise food in general tends to be on the bland side but there are plenty of choices.

Dining/Food
A baked potato was a disaster; cooked ages in advance and lukewarm. There is no excuse for this since baking a potato is as basic as you can get. Steam table "baked" potato should be outlawed.

The ship was nice, clean and very easy to get around, but needs to be checked for mechanical issues before departing so your customers will be able to enjoy all ports and not have to cut stay short

a wonderful lesure kick back cruise.
by katrina H. from Modesto Ca
Sailing date:
Dec 2011
Pros:
the food was amazing!
Cons:
no drinks were served to you while playing poker.
the 7 day cruise was amazing. i have never ate so well in my life! the food was five star in the sit down dinning, although the buffet line was a was also very good, some items were a bit bland. it was very nice having a separate pool for adults and childeren. i stayed in an inner room, the room service and stuarts were very nice and timely. i highly receomend this cruise if you are wanting to relax and enjoy lesure time. although being a young adult, this is more of a older adult cruise line.

Would use Holland America again
by Larry N from Rochester NY
Sailing date:
Aug 2011
Pros:
Service great food atmosphere
Cons:
Room could be spruced up
overall excellent. Clean - constant staff cleaning - no standing around - everybody working and pleasant to you everywhere you went .
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Again - cleanliness was impressive. Facilites gave everyone something to do always something goingon for all age groups. Decor was nice throughout ship.Accesibility for handicapped appeared well thought out as we were scouting for trips with parents.
Dining/Food
Food was excellent we thougth -even the buffet. Somethings better than others of course but when you consider how many people they had to serve especially at the buffet it was very good.Specialty optins were excellt. Expecially like the fact that only one dining option was additional cost. Treated us extra special as it was 25th anniversary
Stateroom Quality
Stateroom could have been better . Carpet was worn - had wrinkles and could have been stretched.Otherwise was good. Amenties were good as was comfort and service was excellent
Ship Staff Quality
Best ever. Met every need quickly above and vbeyond expectations. My wife threw out her back first day and they were very accomadating - extra pillows, quick room service- asking what they could do, ice packs etc. Genuine concern. Room always spotless twice a day. Extremely friendly.
Entertainment & Activities
Great shows - especially the magician. Good talks by Park Rangers on the Glaciers. Funny Mariage game - many options - we are not " partyiers " or drinklers but it was there if you wanted but many options if you didn't. We were told it was an "old" peoples cruise but it was not -many families with children and they seemed to have much for them as well.

Pros:
relaxing and enjoying the food
Cons:
wasn't long enough
Just returned from the Mexican Riviera. The ship was rerouted to Catalina Island and La Paz in place of Puerta Vallarta, there was a hurricane. We enjoyed the new route. It was our first time in La Paz and enjoyed it very much. The ship staff was very friendly.
