A disappointing 5 day vacation
by ARM from Charlotte
Sailing date:
Jan 2013
Pros:
The pillows in the stateroom were very nice, as well as the soft-serve icecream...
Cons:
We were all seasick the entire time. The food was awful, getting one of my friend's sick on the first night. The ship was a little outdated and the events were either free and cheesy or okay and very expensive. It was also very loud the entire time from all the music being place.
Overall, you could tell it was a bit outdated and cheesy. The carpet and decor wasn't that nice, the staterooms were a bit rugged and cheap. Our sink was broken and squirted water everywhere with every single use. The dining room was a bit clustered. I was not very happy with the ship. There was only one small pool and 3 hottubs which were always occupied. Not a lot of choices for a ship with approximately 1500-2000 guests on board. Nassau was a wonderful experience but I don't quite understand why they stop in Freeport. It is just a port city and very trashy with nothing to do. Clearly, it benefits the cruise line in some way or it is just the only way to make it a 5-day cruise. I rather would have stayed overnight in Nassau- but it is probably too expensive for them to dock overnight... disappointed. I felt like I only had one day (not even a full day) to enjoy the Bahamas, which was the sole reason for this cruise
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
It was very clean for the most part. People were always cleaning the ship. The decor was outdated and cheesy. Public space was okay but I did not like the smoking on the boat and inside the casino b/c the casino is open and the smoke drifts into other parts of the boat. Disgusting.
Dining/Food
Our dining time was nice as we were able to go whenever we wanted, but only in one dining room. It would have been nice to be able to eat in any dining room we wanted but we were not allowed. The food was awful. It was like eating in a hospital. They would literally bring our food out on trays while we had our first course and it would sit there until we got done. Weird. Very disappointing as the advertisements make you think the food is amazing.
Stateroom Quality
The pillows were nice. Not a lot of space, but not really expecting space with a cruise. Everything was outdated.
Ship Staff Quality
Overall, everyone who worked on the ship was very nice.
Entertainment & Activities
There were a few things to do but the things for free were not that great. The other things were so expensive (Bingo for $20 a sheet?! wow.)
Children's Programs
Almost everything was age appropriate. This was almost a downfall b/c everything was fit for families with little ones and not adults.

BORING - VERY LITTLE ADULT ENTERTAINMENT
by Marlene M from Sumter, SC
Sailing date:
Jun 2012
Pros:
DISEMBARKING IN CHARLESTON
Cons:
THE SHIP, SENIOR STAFF AND KIDS RUNNING AROUND ON ALL DECKS
We book this cruise last minute in June. We did not do any research on Carnival cruises, the Fantasy is the only cruise leaving from Charleston. If you want to sunbathe all day and eat junk food with kids around you all of the time, this cruise is for you. Very little entertainment for adults, one small swimming pool for kids and adults. We could not get to the pool at all. The 3 ports visited were beach ports for more sunbathing. Boring to say the least. The Casino was the only escape from an overcrowded ship and kids running around all of the time. One small aft deck for adults only with a hot tub.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
The ship needs a serious renovation!! Outdated and dirty carpets.
Dining/Food
Unless you special order breakfast and lunch, be prepared for cold food. Limited choices.
Stateroom Quality
Ship Staff Quality
Be prepared to try to find staff to wipe tables and order drinks.
Entertainment & Activities
Only 2 shows on a 7 day cruise. Limited adult entertainment

Carnival Fantasy - below average
by Jan A. from Charleston, SC
Sailing date:
Oct 2011

Cons:
Food, Activities, Pool area, Smoking allowed all over the ship, All-u-can drink soda program, Attitude of staff,
Disappointing overall. Poorly organized, Food not good

Ship Quality
Dining/Food
Very disappointing. Lots of quantity - no quality.
Stateroom Quality
Larger than expected.
Ship Staff Quality
Stateroom staff lied to us on the last day and told us we could get off the boat earlier than our alloted time. They actually came to the door and knocked and told us this. This was NOT TRUE ! We packed out bags and tried to get off only to be told we had to wait another 2 hours ! Also, we purchased the "bottomless soda" deal. First we have trouble finding staff to set it up for us - they tried to talk us out of it. Then we did go to get drinks the staff was almost rude to us each time. Maybe they are not tipped on these drinks ? It was a very different story when we purchased alcohol drinls.
Entertainment & Activities
Camp Carnival was decent, though it smelled horrible (damp, mold) in there.

not a very good cruise
by Michael N from Hawkinsville, Ga
Sailing date:
Sep 2011
Pros:
the staff were excellent
Cons:
the food was not good, the entertainment was not good
I have cruised before with Carnival and even though my first cruise was a better experience, I think I will try another company next time. The ship was old, the food was mediocre at best, and the entertainment was terrible. i am 39 and my fiance is 25 and we do not want to play bingo all day. In fact, I would pay extra not to play bingo. The pool and hot tubs were so small and overcrowded that I didn't even try to get in them. They all closed at 10 pm. I would like to get in the hot tub with my fiance sometimes after 10 pm. why not just close them to children at say 9pm and leave them open the rest of the night to adults?
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
the ship was old. it mostly clean. some of the chairs smelled pretty badly when you sat down.
Dining/Food
the food was plentiful, but it was never good. i couldn't wait to get home and get some real food again.
Stateroom Quality
as with most cruise ships the stateroom was small..
Ship Staff Quality
I have no complaints with the staff, they were great.
Entertainment & Activities
very bad entertainment. the shows were terrible. the cast was obviously lip syncing and it was just all around terrible entertainment. I had fun on this cruise only because i went with 4 of my brothers and their wives. we entertained ourselves.

Not for people traveling w/o kids
by Jennifer H. from Virginia Beach, VA
Sailing date:
Apr 2011
Pros:
Great stateroom service
Cons:
The wait staff in the main dining room, entertainment, lack of activities for people over 21, out dated ship
I recently sailed on the Carnival Fantasy. The room cleaning team was phenomenal. I was very disappointed with the wait staff in the main dining room. When asked for more bread, the server would say yes and never bring it. It took a very long time to order drinks. One night a different server took care of us, he reached across people's places, never brought steak knives, was painfully slow, hit me in the head and never apologized. The entertainment was poor, it was geared towards guest participation, mainly kid participation. The ship was very outdated and smelt HORRIBLE after day one. There was apparently an issue with the holding tank. The pool was very small, we never even got the opportunity to get in it. There were not enough chairs for people to lay out on, people would wake up at 6am to go out and put their towels on a chair then camp out on it all day.

Ship and Crew Disaster
by A Traveler from Louisiana
Sailing date:
Oct 2008
Pros:
Cozumel
Cons:
The crew and food
The ship and crew left a lot to be desired. The crew was not polite and not helpful. We had problems before the cruise began. We were to leave at 4pm and the ship didn't sail until after midnight due to technical problems. We voiced our complaints and they went unheard and unresolved. The food was cold nightly and had to be sent back at least twice before it was somewhat satisfactory. This was our first cruise and other passengers who had sailed before were stating that this was the worst cruise they had ever been on, and not to let this cruise stop us from taking another cruise. There was a stench onboard and several passengers were wearing mask. We were told that a sewage pipe or line had burst. It did smell like raw sewage. We enjoyed the comedy act on board the ship and Cozumel was beautiful. Please take an excursion when you visit Cozumel. We did the snorkeling and horseback riding. It was great!

Ship Quality
There was some type of stench that was horrible onboard. We were on the main deck and other passengers in another area were saying that they could smell it on their deck. We were told there was a break in the sewage line.........
Dining/Food
The food was horrible, plus it was cold every night! We would send it back at least twice before it would come back somewhat satisfactory.
