Some of the staff however were not as helpful or as outgoing as I would have expected. I treid not to but i kept comparing this cruise to a Disney Cruise I took and hands down the disney cruise was much better. I have decided that if i ever do cruise again, it wont be with Carnival. Also, the excursion to Merida was a waste of time. The locals were bad talking the guests (they didnt know I could understand them) and said that if they were not spending money they should just leave. So i would skip that port, or just stay on the boat. Overall on a scale of 1 -10 i would give this cruise and Carnival a 4 maybe a 5. Ship Details: Ship Quality Very nice beautiful ship. Dining/Food The food was not what i expected, i kept comparing the service and the food to a Disney Cruise i took a few years back and Carnival just did not measure up. Stateroom Quality Ship Staff Quality There are a few staff members such as Guest Services that are really outgoing and service oriented. While others seem as if they are doing me a favor by being there. Had always hear Carnival was a party ship for mostly younger people. This was not the case. This was a great ship for all ages. Guest were well behaved and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Would definitly consider Carnival again. Great price also. I thoroughly enjoyed this cruise and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing, awesome vacation. Everything was easy -- from parking at the Julia Terminal to boarding the ship, to the trip itself, to debarking. The glamour and luxury of the ship were exciting. The live music was consistently great, and the staff were wonderful. Ship Details: Ship Quality Dining/Food The serving sizes are rather small, but I consider that a perk. That way I could order multiple appetizers because so much looked delicious! Stateroom Quality We had a small room, but we knew that when we booked it. Overall Rating: Great for the Price by A Traveler from New Orleans, LA Sailing date: May 2012 Pros: The food and service Cons: The activities I had a great time with a large group of friends. If I had been with fewer people however - it would have been on the boring side. There wasn't much to do on board and excursions were a must as there was little to do in either port. To book excursions, do it ahead of time and through orbitz. You will save a lot of money. Love the porthole room, same price as an interior but more room and a window! Smaller boat, easy to get around, we were on the R Deck (bottom) so we did alot of stairs every day to get to deck 10 (the pool and sun). Didn't get in the pool, too small, too many kids. Liked the eating area behind the buffet dining room for breakfast or lunch, hardly anyone out there and nice view. Did the your time dinning, which we liked going when we felt like it, but if you love to socialize with the strangers on the boat and like having the same service staff, then you need to stick with a set time for dinning. Bring your allowed 12 non-alcohol drinks per person, your wallet will be glad you did. The food was a little bland for my taste, but we did eat our fair share, nothing "wowed" me, but I did like the part on deck at lunch where you could have them make your own noodle dish, I had all three sauces and it was good. LOVED Mr. Sancho's Beach, recommend for anyone as a stop in Cozumel. Clubs played great dance music at night, started with 70-80's then the hits, always an interesting crowd to watch. Lots of bachelorette parties, birthdays, family reunions, etc. Getting on the boat and getting off, very smooth, probably the best we have experienced. Ship Details: Ship Quality decorations were over the top, as they always are on cruise ships, but it was lovely all the same. Everything was kept very clean. the size made it easy to get a round. Dining/Food Food, not all that. Sorry, but I have had better cruise food, and I don't really expect that much. Still, you will never go hungry! Stateroom Quality very comfortable porthole room, room stewartess did a Great job for us, always available and got us anything we needed. Ship Staff Quality Everyone we encountered was great. Stateroom Quality This is the one place lacking. Even though we were not in our stateroom for long periods of time they need to consider eliminating the corner floor cabinet for the life jackets and putting up a wall cabinet. Even though it's an older ship, it's very clean and full of kind, friendly staff. The food was excellent and the waiters were very nice too! My only cons would be that certain lines for food (Mongolian Wok) were verry long (like 30 minutes!!!!) and the shows after dinner, I thought were OK. The story line was odd and made no sense; hard to follow, BUT the costumes and dancing were great! Carnival is a wonderful wonderful cruise line. I would definitely recommend this cruise line and ship! ALSO the excursions were amazing OFF ship. Progreso was nice and Cozumel was absolutely beautiful! This cruise is worth going on. The ship is very beautiful and super clean. The stuff is the best, very friendly and knowledgible. We found the food to be everage, but of course always available. Kids had an incredible time at the kids club and didn't want the cruise to end. Overall Rating: About the Reviewer: Age: 30 - 49 Cruise Experience: 4 - 6 cruises Traveler Type: Singles/friends Stateroom Type: Inside For lovers of fast-food and boozing by A Traveler from Lansing, Michigan Sailing date: Mar 2012 Pros: great service Cons: the obnoxious drunks, and most of the food was worse than bad fast-food On the whole, the crowd that goes on these cruises appears to mostly be loud, obnoxious young men and women looking to get drunk, gamble, and hook up. This was during spring break season, though. I saw a boy who could not have even been eighteen years old so drunk that he dropped a mixed drink glass over a ledge to shatter on the floor below. Luckily, no one was standing there. The cruise was constantly pushing alcoholic drinks on everyone, and announcing drink specials. There were some families with children there as well, which helped balance things out. There were several "deals" offered by the cruise that were misleading, and almost con-like, such as their pricing scheme and discounts for buying photographs and internet minutes. These and many other aspects of this cruise felt almost insulting to an average person's taste and intelligence. I would never cruise with Carnival again. Ship Details: Ship Quality The ship decor was dated, loud, and glittery - quite literally like a carnival. The ship felt very small and crowded after a few days. It was hard to find an empty chair to lay out on, a lot of the time. The music was far too loud in the open deck up top. Annoying elevator style music was played in a few other public areas. The gym was decent, but there were only a handful of exercise classes at odd hours. Dining/Food The "formal" sit-down breakfast and dinner were pretty good, but the food served at all other times of the day in the all-day dining cafeteria was nearly inedible. It was clear they used the cheapest ingredients possible, and were aiming to an audience that likes bad pizza (worse than Dominos) and hamburgers (worse than most fast-food restaurants). The "omelettes" they made in the morning came from a carton, were drowned in oil, and the guy who cooked them would handle dirty items and "clean" his hands by washing water over them for one second and then drying them on a dirty cleaning towel. Stateroom Quality The worst part of the cruise, other than the food served 24/7 in the cafeteria, was the lack of ventilation in the "state rooms"/cabins, and even in some public areas. We smelled cigarette smoke and what smelled like raw sewage fumes wafting through the air on several occasions. Other than that, the state rooms were clean and relatively spacious. Ship Staff Quality On the plus side, everyone who worked on the ship was fairly nice and friendly. They are hired from all parts of the world. The staff were forced to do embarrassing, long dances every night at dinner, though, under obnoxious flashing lights. We felt bad for them. Entertainment & Activities The entertainment was extremely low brow, featuring a "hairy chest context" and a "mixed drink contest". They played the same films over and over again on the television, so there was not much entertainment to be found their either, except by watching local tv stations. 0 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
