Run down boat with second class staff.
by Lisa from Overland Park, Kansas
Sailing date:
Aug 2007
Pros:
That you go to get off each day.
The boat was run down with the B team staff. The excursion staffs were actually yelling at guests to get to different lines. The excursions you paid for included museums that were closed the day of the excursion. The rooms were dirty. Several people's rooms were flooded and they had no place to go. Our floor was constantly being worked on for dampness. Mold was such an issue. The cabin crew in our area you never saw. I have been on Royal Caribbean before and this was not the case. The main areas were maintained fairly well. The food was just ok. The staff really didn't care to please you.
Ship Details:
Dining/Food
Just fair, cold in the main dining room, buffet better.
Stateroom Quality
Dirty, moldy, run down.
Ship Staff Quality
The excursion staff were rude, the dining staff friendly, cabin crew poor and bad service, never saw them.
Entertainment & Activities
Entertainment: Poor compared to other cruises I have been on.

Corfu, Greece
It looked like Europe. Corfu looked like Europe...the only Island that did. It had beautiful architecture and countryside. There is not a lot to do here and shopping is nothing special but fun to walk the streets. Everyone is very friendly.
Don't Miss:
Walking the streets.
Mykonos, Greece
The city was just ok. Go on an excursion to Delos or you will not have enough to do here. The shopping only takes a little while, no bargains and the history is fabulous.
Don't Miss:
Deloes.
Katakolon (Olympia), Greece
Olympic the great. Olympic Stadium was a great excursion and a must on an excursion since it is so far away.
Don't Miss:
Olympic Stadium.
Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Athens was disappointing. Do it on your own don't take an excursion it is not worth the money. Easy to manipulate on your own you only need about 1/2 day here. The city is dirty, nothing special to shop for. Go to the Acropolis and go back to the ship and enjoy.
Don't Miss:
Acropolis.

This was a C+ cruise
by Denise A. from Brookhaven, PA

Pros:
Food and Ports of call
Cons:
Service
Overall the Splendour of the Seas was a nice ship although we found the lounges and theater to be smaller than the ones on our previous Royal Caribbean cruises. We enjoyed the Solarium and the Seattle's best Coffee Shop and the casino and the shops were nice. The King and I is a beautiful restaurant, although we did not feel a part of it because we were assigned a table right by the door. Although the food was delicious, we found the service in the King and I to be slow and the bussing service in the Windjammer to be slower. It was extremely hard to find a clean table. One time I even cleared the dishes and took them to the busboy myself. We found the drinks to be expensive and watered down. The biggest disappointment was no Midnight Buffet. We did not care for the Cruise Director and felt that the "energy" was lacking, compared to other cruises. Also lacking was the attention to detail, which I prided Royal Caribbean for in the past. We also were disappointed in the lack of direction once we got off the ship at the end of the cruise. There was a free shuttle bus but no signs and no system and it was a horrible free for all - not a nice way to end the vacation.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Layout and cleanliness were good.
Dining/Food
The food was excellent but the 2nd seating was very late - 9 PM. We had to change it to Main seating and that it why we probably had the horrible location mentioned above.
Stateroom Quality
Our stateroom was a decent size with an excellent location.
Ship Staff Quality
We did not experience any "going above & beyond". We felt the attention to detail was lacking.
Entertainment & Activities
We thought the activities on board were lacking something and we really did not care for the Cruise Director. The Entertainment was very enjoyable.

We did not appreciate going on a boat ride and then being charged for it afterwards. The guide made it seem like it was included. She never said that it was extra and then when we approached her about it she said she thought it was understood.
Mykonos, Greece
The Jewelry stores recommended by the ship were a waste of time.
Katakolon (Olympia), Greece
I could do without this port. Although I know the draw is Olympia, I would have preferred Santorini instead.
Piraeus (Athens), Greece
The tour was good but the shopping was rushed.

Great Family Adventure!
by A Traveler from Living Overseas
Sailing date:
Jun 2012
Pros:
Port calls, crew, activities for children, service, food.
Cons:
Size of the ship.
Cruised with a family of four. It was a great vacation. Port calls make all the difference too. It was a lot sightseeing for two kids in a 7 day period, but all worth it. Kids loved the kids center (Adventure Ocean) and wanted to go every day. Fortunately the staff was wonderful. The ship is getting old and there are many more RCCL ships with more to offer, but again the itinerary makes the difference. Dubrovnik and Mykonos were our favorite stops. Food was great too. Gets a little busy in the Windjammer at times, but with food available 20 hours a day, you never went hungry. In addition, we traveled with another family and was able to sit at dinner with them each night. The wait staff took great care of the children. Would recommend to anyone wanting to explore the eastern med.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
As I stated previously, ship is getting old and small, but still very clean and updated. Could be a positive as there is not as many people on board.
Dining/Food
Meals were all great...wine...desserts.
Stateroom Quality
Stayed in a balcony room in the back of the ship. View was wonderful, porch was a good size, but being in the back/aft the room did shake/vibrate more than if you stayed midships.
Ship Staff Quality
Room always clean and ready for the day or night. Wait staff "over" feed us at dinner each night.
Entertainment & Activities
For such a small ship they do a very good job. Bars are great, nice decor. Drinks were good too. Again, best Eastern Med itinerary.
Children's Programs
Adventure Ocean is great. Gave us a break from the kids and never felt nervous about leaving them.

Do NOT take a cruise if you want to rela
by Hunters from Tomball, TX
Sailing date:
Apr 2007
My husband and I were on our 11 year anniversary and were very displeased to see kids running EVERYWHERE!! We went to relax but they were running up and down the hallways, in the casino's, bars and even in the ADULT ONLY shows!! It was sickening!! Next time I want to get away for a relaxing weekend, I will not be taking a cruise.

take the ferry to the other islands. That is where the world class beaches are, but it is not an option on the ship sponsored getaways.

by Colonel B from Linville, NC
Sailing date:
Oct 2011
Pros:
Food and piano bar, Mr. Boles, he was off the charts fun and so talented! I liked our room too! We were upgraded to a very nice ocean view room.
Cons:
Late dining was weak.
Our steward was great as was our waiter. The food was wonderful. We enjoyed the entertainment and the staff was young and fun. The cruise director was wonderful. We were first time cruisers and have been won over! We will do this again and the sooner the better. Mr Boles in the piano bar was wonderful and blessed our group greatly. He is so talented and fun we went to see him every night.

We were hoping there would be beaches, and it wasn't until the end of the night when we learned that all we had to do was take a taxi and we'd find some beautiful beaches! You can walk around the old and new fortresses or whatever they were....but we thought they weren't too exciting. I say get out of the city and find those beaches!
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Santorini, Greece
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! I did not want to leave!

Ride the donkey's! Scary, but a memorable and exciting experience!
