My first cruise & definitely coming back
by Suzanne from Seattle, WA
Sailing date:
Sep 2011
Pros:
Food, cleanliness, spa
Cons:
Couldn't use pool because too small and crowded
I went on this cruise for the first time, with my mom. We loved the food (sushi, Indian, breakfast, soups, dessert were all good). The nightly entertainment was wonderful, with musical shows featuring Billy Joel music, good singers, and laser shows. The dessert festival one day had lots of fruits and chocolates carved out. Loved the daily excursions - taking the railroad across Alaskan mountains was amazing. One down side (and this is probably true of most ships) is that day-time entertainment when you are on the ship is not that great. We were bored when we weren't using the spa, or when I wasn't playing ping pong with the other guests.

Beautiful, luxurious layout. Felt like we were on the Titanic (in a good way).
Dining/Food
Buffet food was great!
Stateroom Quality
We had inside room, which was very small, as expected.

Awesome time!
by Chris L. from MA
Sailing date:
Sep 2011
Pros:
Cleanliness, politeness of the crew, fantastic food
Cons:
Short time in ports
Really nice ship with plenty of room for everyone, for a long trip, a bigger boat with more amenities would be my choice next time like the Oasis or the Allure if they ever get to the Pacific. Extremely clean ship with a great blended crew, all polite and courteous

Next time I will book a larger room. Inside stateroom for this trip was adequate but that was my choice, not any fault of the cruise. Good for what it is but can get clumsy for larger people.
Ship Staff Quality
Entertainment & Activities
Seemed limited to singing and dance mostly. Like the other acts better for variety.

Honolulu, Oahu
Very urban, bustling city.
Hilo, Hawaii
Rained when we were there so it limited the activities we did. Seemed a bit run down and more industrial than tourist.
Kailua-Kona, Hawaii
Clean and dry, beautiful town, lots to see and do
Don't Miss:
2 hour helicopter tour of the volcanoes and waterfalls
Lahaina, Maui
Very tourist oriented, lots to see and do, lots of shops and restaurant/bars, city bus available to get around on, beaches are clean and open to the public
Don't Miss:
Bus ride/tour of Haleakala. Breathtaking once you're in the crater
Nawiliwili, Kauai
only went to the beach to relax and surf
Don't Miss:
surfing in the protected harbor. Great for beginners.

Awesome Cruise
by Jeff B from Battle Creek, NE
Sailing date:
Jun 2011
Pros:
Shows and meals
Cons:
Cost of off ship tours
Overall the ship was awesome as was her crew and captain. I do think that the ship needs some updating as some of the paint etc were beginning to show their ware and tear. The water pressure in the cabin could have been better but other than that, I really have nothing bad to say. I would highly recommend this ship and cruise line to anyone. .

Our waiter was awesome! The waiters on the Windjammer deck could have been a little more attentive. It seemed that as the cruise went on they were less attentive.

by A Traveler from Aptos, Ca.

Pros:
Good shows, great excursion to the overland dog sled camp
Cons:
head waiter that lacked social skills; interupted and rushed us at dinner
I was impressed with how clean the ship was. A great effort was spent trying to avoid the passing of germs. The shows were varied and very entertaining. Bar areas were clean and the service was excellent. The dining room food was great at first and had deteriorated by the last night of seating. Many of us not did finish our entree. Food was cold and dry. The midnight chocolate buffet was impressive. We met a lady who was traveling alone. She was seated by herself in the dining room. This is not O.K.

The decor of the stateroom could have been upgraded. Upholstery is soiled. Our room steward was pleasent and effecient.
Dining/Food
Stateroom Quality
Very quiet area. Loved the big window.
Ship Staff Quality
The Croatian lady who was in charge of the second seating in the dining room was extremely friendly and helpful. Our second seating waiter was very annoying. He lacked social skills. His helper, a sweet girl from China, was helpful and charming.
Entertainment & Activities
Horse racing area is not comfortable. Not enough seating. Very clear scheduling of activities.

Unfortunately we paid a bundle and didn't catch fish. The captain was quite pleasant though. Very nice fishing boat.
Skagway, Alaska
Red Dog Saloon was a hoot! Lots of fun. WE HAD A WONDERFUL OVERLAND TRIP TO THE DOG TRAINING CAMP. SAW LOTS OF BEAR. Our guide JC was the greatest! Interesting museum of local animals at the site. Loved playing with the dogs and puppies.
Don't Miss:
The overland dog training camp.
Victoria, British Columbia
Liked the Queen Victoria Hotel. Excellent service and lots of ambiance. The Museum of Natural History was interesting and Minature World was good.
Don't Miss:
The Queen Victoria Hotel. ( Bengal Bar)

If weather is good stay at the beach if weather is rainy go to the lagoon.

Colorful coral and fishes. Don't miss snorkelling here.

Pamper, relaxed and entertained.
by Carole from Houston
Sailing date:
Aug 2007
Pros:
Beautiful facilities, dining, and service and comfortable stateroom. We were surprised how uncrowded it seemed, even though there were 2000 passengers. The layout contributed to this.
We enjoyed the entire shipboard experience. Big band music. We traveled with my 82 and 86 year old parents; they were extremely well accommodated and taken care of. They loved the shows and dining.

Cozemal was our snorkling destination. It was pretty water, but we went to several stops on the west side, and there was no coral-wiped out by the last major hurricane. We did see fish because our guide baited them up. The excursion crew and boat were exceptional.
Don't Miss:
Not for snorkling.
Progreso (Merida), Mexico
Progresso. We took an excursion to see the Flamingos. We did see five birds, but it wasn't very scenic.
Don't Miss:
Flamingos.
Roatan (Isla Roatan), Bay Islands, Honduras
Roatan. Fantastic coral reefs at Tabayana Beach. Best beach in the world.
Don't Miss:
The beaches on the west end.

Friendly service.
by James from Arlington, Texas

Pros:
Its service staff.
The service was great as well as the food. Information and details about the ship and available activities was very poor. Any announcements made were only heard if you were out in common areas. Parking beforehand was a nightmare as was getting off the ship. Compared to other cruiselines, the only advantage Royal has is getting you on the ship faster.

Very beautiful and friendly. This stop was very fun and beautiful. The people were very friendly and the activities were great.
Cozumel, Mexico
Cozumel was great!!! The scenery was very beautiful. Snorkelling was a blast. The local people and vendors were very friendly. The food was great.
Don't Miss:
Snorkel Trip.
Progreso (Merida), Mexico
Great side trips, friendly people. Another fun stop. Local people very friendly and knowledgeable about local history. Excursions were a blast.
Roatan (Isla Roatan), Bay Islands, Honduras
Roatan was disappointing. I had been here before and it was great. This time around it was very disappointing. The scenery and activities were good and the shopping was good. The service people (taxi drivers, resort staff, resteraunt staff) were not friendly and did not seem to want to help you or want your business. We sat in a resteraunt for over 45 minutes and were never helped at all despite asking.
