First Time Cruiser...loved it! by
Beth J. from Yorktown, VA Sailing date: Jun 2009Pros: So much to do in such close proximity for all types of people, old, young, and in-between! Cons: Bathrooms a bit small, Some foods on buffet not so great. My first cruise out of Norfolk, VA to Bermuda, 4 nights 5 days. We had 3 days of clouds and rain and some lightning and thunderstorms, but even those didn't hamper my fun much. Loved the ship, wished bathrooms were a bit bigger but you don't spend a lot of time in there, so I lived! :-) Loved all the various things to do, gamble, shows, lounges, discos, art gallery, shopping, main dining was fabulous. Loved Bermuda, everyone there was very nice. Did Dolphin Quest, a bit pricey but if you love the sea, and animal life it is worth it at least just once. Wished you actually had a bit more time, and direct interaction with the dolphins, but to just be in the water and touch them or kiss their nose was wonderful! Nice beach at half moon bay, but be sure to take the taxi to the top! It's only $2 per person, and I would have paid $50!! Did shopping in the Dockyard shops, very unique and nice place to go. Watch out for driving, narrow winding roads...saw too many unstable motoscooters being passed by large buses to scare you. I would stay on the bus! Overall a 8 out of 10 for me.
Ship QualityClean, excellent customer service, excellent servers in main dining hall. Dining/FoodMain dining hall food was outstanding, our servers actually gave two of us 3 dinners each night to share! And desserts! The food in the Windjammer buffet was give and take for me some days. Ate lunch there and breakfast every day. Breakfast to me was better than lunch usually. For lunch I mostly ate sandwiches and salads. Not much of the hot stuff. Stateroom QualityAlways clean and neat, loved the towel animals each night. Ship Staff Quality

  Fantastic Cruise by
Jennifer R from North Carolina Sailing date: May 2009Pros: Clean, tons of stuff to do, great activities, awesome entertainment Cons: Liked everything. The ship was clean, staff was very helpful, the activity staff did a great job with making sure there were things to do for all age groups, entertainment after dinner was amazing, and everything was well organized. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodFood was overall great, but just a little bland at times. Stateroom QualityThe rooms were really small and you had to keep everything put away so you didn't trip over it. The rooms were clean and had decent amenities. Ship Staff QualityAmazing staff!!!! Entertainment & Activities

  Great time by
A woman travelling alone from Chicago, IL Sailing date: Mar 2009Pros: The focus on customer service Cons: Having to skip a shore expedition to Costa Maya because of the weather It was a beautiful and big ship, 11 stories tall, offering ever activity you could ever want to participate in. Never a dull moment! I saw great comedy and musical shows, gambled, exercised in the workout room, had a massage in the spa, read a book by the pool, danced, drank wine, eat great meals, listened to a classical concert, watched a James Bond movie, shopped on board and went snorkeling in Cozumel. Ship QualityI loved having a private area and pool for adults. This was the Solarium and it was a beautiful and quiet place to read and relax. Dining/FoodThe food and service was great. Every night we had 3 course meals with many choices for appetizers, entrees and desserts. The variety of foods at the breakfast and lunch buffet was also very nice. Stateroom QualityThe people who cleaned the staterooms used the supplied beach towels to make animals in different shapes to entertain to guests. It was very fun to see each afternoon! Ship Staff QualityI loved the ship's focus on safety. We did a mandatory life boat evacuation drill the first afternoon we were on board. The staff made sure everyone went to the right station and wore their life vest. To make sure everyone participated, state room numbers were called out for anyone who had not already supplied their room number to the staff. Entertainment & ActivitiesThe woman comedian they hired to do one of the evening shows was so funny that I laughed so hard I was crying. She was great. Her first name was Judy but I can't remember her last name.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), MexicoI had planned to see the Mayan Ruins but as soon as we got off the ship, we had to come back. The waves were high and some water got on the ship by the gangway. The captain thought it wouldn't be safe for people to get on and off the boat in this windy weather so we left Costa Maya right away. People were disappointed about this but the captain's focus on safety was commendable.
Cozumel, MexicoI heard that going into town was a waste of time. All they had there was 1 street of shops with jewelry, T-shirts and liquor. However, the shops by the ship were nice and I bought gifts for my teenage sons and husband there.
Don't Miss: Any water-related activity, rather than shopping in town 8 out of 8 people found this review helpful.

  Spring Break Cruise by
Lisa K. from Southern Indiana Sailing date: Mar 2009Pros: Check in process Cons: Electronic Bingo We just returned from our cruise on Grandeur of the Seas and we had a nice time. Our biggest complaint had to be all the college students and their excessive drinking and unruly behavior. I understand the cruiseline could only do so much but they really did nothing to tame them down. For example, they allowed the very drunk students in the dining room with swimsuits and cut off jeans and t-shirts. We felt that was something they could have controlled. We had teenagers on this cruise and they received a real education. Two of our girls were in the kids program for 12-14 year olds and were very disappointed in it. They tried it for 2 days and then gave up. It seems that what was scheduled to do never happened and the kids just sat around. The service in most areas was good and our cabin attendant was excellent along with the dining room staff. We have been on 20+ cruises and this was not ranked up there in the top 5 but it was not in the bottom either. We had a group of 21 and I think that was what made this cruise fun not anything Royal Caribbean did. Ship Quality

Costa Maya (Mahahual), MexicoWe went scuba diving and had a great time. Most of the others either stayed on the ship or just hung around the beach and pool area by pier. We would not care to go there again (although, there is some construction going on so maybe there will be improvements).
Cozumel, MexicoPart of us went diving and that was great. Part of us went on a dolphin push pull and swim which was excellent. We had done this in Costa Maya a few years ago and this one was 200 % better!

Great Cruise for the price! by
Ryan M. from Indianapolis, IN Sailing date: Feb 2009Pros: Food was great! Price was awesome. Cons: service was a little lacking but that is expected from an older boat and the low price. You have to remember that the ship is about 12 years old so you don't have all the fancey things that the new ships have. But the crew was great! Bar serive and food service was ok. Only the stateroom attendant was lacking. We went to two ports. Cozumel was awesome but we also went to Costa Maya and we won't go back there. That place had nothing really to do. Ship Quality

  Good Cruise by
Larry L. from Brooksville, FL Sailing date: Jan 2009Pros: Very fast check in and Customs check out. This was a good cruise, although, the food choices have been narrowed; I suspect as a cost cutting measure. Overall, it was worth the price. Ship QualityThe ship and cabin were always clean. The support staff did a great job keeping us happy Dining/FoodThe food choices in the Windjammer have become somewhat commonplace; not the more exotic foods we experianced on our former cruise. It seems Royal Caribbian is cutting costs in the food department. Stateroom Quality
