A great cruise. by
Roberta from California Sailing date: Jun 2007Pros: Size. I have never cruised before so I didn't know what to expect. Friends told me I would want a balcony and I am glad I listened. We were on the Inside Alaskan cruise and I was pleased to be able to view the scenery from my private space. It was cold so I had the balcony walls to block the wind. We were able to relax and constantly check the sites. We saw orcas early in the morning and moonlight on the water without leaving our cabin. The food was wonderful. We enjoyed the anytime dining option. A few times we had to wait to be seated but not for long. I enjoyed meeting many different people. I was disappointed when we were given private two people tables. Next time I will ask for a different table to meet more new friends. The buffet was great. I was trying to not gain a lot of pounds so I was looking for salads and fruit. Both were plentiful and good. The destinations were fun but I should have signed up for more tours. I was trying to save money but found we were stuck in the town and the shopping. I enjoy souvenir shopping but was turned off with all the jewelry stores that are in Alaska in the summer and Caribbean in the winter. I bought the coupon book from the ship and found myself running from jewelry store to jewelry store to pick up very tiny gemstones and charms for a charm bracelet. Not worth the time and effort. You can get some of the tours when you arrive on the deck but I kept thinking we could find things to do on are own. I recommend the park service walk in Skagway but otherwise we didn't find much. We did do the whale watching in Juneau and had a great experience. We also took the bus ride in Skagway to see the Pass. I would have liked to go on more tours to feel I saw more of Alaska. I chose Princess Lines because of the size of the ship. It was medium size and I rarely felt like I was in a crowd. There were tons of activities but if you aren't athletic or a dancer or a gambler it was limited. We enjoyed the wine tasting and the naturalist talks. Dining/Food

Entertainment & ActivitiesActivities: I would have liked more lecture type activities. There were four talks by naturalists. I wanted more.

Juneau, AlaskaWhale watching.
We had an excellent opportunity to see about eight whales bubble net fishing. This is a rare experience so we were very lucky. It was great! We did not have much time at the glacier, one half hour. I was disappointed that folks on our tour talked the driver into cutting it short so they could go shopping.
Ketchikan, Alaska
Skagway, AlaskaSkagway has a lot to offer.
We enjoyed the bus ride to the pass and the park service's guided tour. We ate in town and paid more than it was worth.
Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, AlaskaTracy Arm.
The scenery was awesome. We were disappointed because we were unable to go as far as they do normally. I am not quite sure what happened but another ship was in front of us and I think that made it impossible for us to go closer to the glacier. We didn't see the glacier.

Juneau, AlaskaNot Much there besides for shopping and eating. Only public restrooms at library.
Ketchikan, AlaskaIf the weather is good, very beautiful, nice city. I could see myself there some day.
Don't Miss: Salmon run! Skagway, AlaskaWhat a hole! If not for the scenic railway trip, this tourist trap wouldn't exist.
Port is pretty good walk from towk...pay for the shuttle.
Don't Miss: A train ride to White Pass or further inland. Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, AlaskaStunning.

  Somewhat disappointing. by
Byron from Chicago, IL Sailing date: Jul 2007Pros: Its staff. Ship's condition overall was less than we had come to expect from Princess. Service was excellent, but amenities and overall appearance were less than spectacular. Weather was consistently poor (which is entirely out the control of the cruiseline, of course), but we did not find the ship itself to be a sufficient counterbalance. Dining/Food

Skagway, AlaskaAlaska is beautiful.
Were the weather more cooperative, we would have enjoyed the scenery far more. Even so, Alaska was magnificent.
Don't Miss: Glaciers, whale spotting, etc. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

  First cruise. by
Shirley from Charlton, MA Sailing date: Jan 2007Pros: This ship is very outdated. For first time cruisers, I was somewhat disappointed with the activities that were offered as well as the entertainment. I was also disappointed with the lack of clergy on board. We had no religious services on sunday. Entertainment & Activities
Entertainment: Not impressed with the variety of acts or the quality of the performers. In order to watch a particular show, you had to arrive at the area an hour before to get a seat. 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

Big ship, but not crowded. by
Megan from Fresno, CA Sailing date: Aug 2007Pros: The room attendant was extremely friendly and helpful. Good, at times we felt like we were the only ones on the ship. The best excursion was a canoe trip to the face of Mendenhall Glacier (Princess called it: Mendenhall Float Trip)! Dining/Food

Boris from Tarzana, CA Sailing date: Aug 2007Pros: Interior design.
Dining/FoodI wish they had not charged us for soft drinks/juices at dinnertime. This is really petty of them, considering that these drinks were free of charge for breakfast.
Stateroom QualityPublic announcements could not be heard in the stateroom.
Ship Staff Quality
Entertainment & ActivitiesActivities: There were only 4 pingpong tables for 2000 passengers; it was nearly impossible to get a chance to play.
