Overall Rating: About the Reviewer: Age: 30 - 49 Cruise Experience: 2 - 3 cruises Traveler Type: Group OK week. by Peggy from Gilbert, AZ Sailing date: Jul 2007 Pros: The nice pool areas, although it was too cold to swim and the spas were always crowded (and their central location was not very inviting - it seemed like the people in the spas were on stage!). Our exciting (but expensive) excursion choices are what we enjoyed about the cruise. The ship itself was nice, but not exceptional. Our room condition really dampened our enjoyment of the week. The food was good, although we often had hard time understanding / communicating with our waiters. There were a few evenings where there was nothing to do - we don't drink or gamble - so we ended up watching the less-than-exciting television channel choices in the room. We give it 4 out of 10. Ship Details: Dining/Food Stateroom Quality Our carpet was a mess - there were spots in various locations. Our steward tried to remove them, but it didn't help. Very disappointing. Ship Staff Quality Entertainment & Activities Entertainment: The quality of shows was not good. The magician was embarrasing. The juggler was good but his show was too short and crowded (it was in one of the lounges instead of the main theater). The movies were always offered at inconvenient times. The comedian was the only show really worth watching. We loved the zip line excursion - the guides were great, the whole experience was a blast. Don't Miss: The zip line excursion. Skagway, Alaska Our favorite - Skagway. It wasn't raining, which was a change from Juneau. We did the helicopter ride and rock climbing excursions and were very impressed with the young people who instructed us there. The town was quaint and beautiful. Don't Miss: The helicopter glacier trip. Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska The "best weather" day. It was a long trip up and back but the weather was nice (the only day it wasn't cloudy and dreary and we couldn't even get off the ship!). It was a little boring, but the scenery was beautiful. The ship took an "outside" route the first day and over half the passangers were sea sick... After first day the ship stayed on the "inside" passage and everything was great but at this expense the loss of one day cannot and should not happen. I was not sick but my traveling companion was and therefore I loss the day also. Need more activities for older generation. Our family of four had a great time, overall, on this cruise. Alaska was spectacular. I can't wait to go again -- further north next time, I hope. The staff was great and my children had a wonderful time, too. The food was good to very good (not outstanding) and plentiful if you took advantage of the buffet and other casual dining options. Go see the whales! We had many, many sightings of humpback whales on our catamaran voyage. Don't Miss: The Whales! Ketchikan, Alaska Lumberjack show - better than I thought it would be. We went to the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show because it seemed like the "obvious" choice. But, we all had a really fun time. Adults and kids were all able to enjoy it together. Skagway, Alaska Great town/Great Railroad. The White Pass & Yukon RR trip was wonderful. There were walls of snow at the summit. The scenery was spectacular. Don't Miss: White Pass & Yukon RR. Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska Glacier Watching. Beautiful scenic cruising of Tracy Arm area from the cruise ship. We went in early June -- be prepared to bundle up. Overall it was a good experience. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Entertainment options were pretty lame. Food wasn't nearly as good as it should have been. Alaska was amazing and that's what we were there for. Ship Details: Entertainment & Activities Activities: The activities were lame. We attended the trivia game and if the point of the game was to make everyone there feel stupid, mission accomplished. After trying that twice, we skipped the other activities. Entertainment: The entertainment we experienced was corny and cheeseball. We work in professional theatre so we weren't impressed. Whale watching was great! We needed more time at the glacier but it was incredible nonetheless. Mt. Roberts afforded great views but the tram is overpriced especially since all of the trails were closed when we were up there. Don't Miss: Mendenhall Glacier. Ketchikan, Alaska Touristy Town. Ketchikan is very touristy. We were only there a short time so it was nice to get our shopping done there. Skagway, Alaska Train Ride was Amazing. Skagway itself was a disappointment. It's so touristy and it was overcrowded. I'm glad we did the White Pass and Yukon Route train ride. It was the best thing we did while we were in Alaska. It was just beautiful. Don't Miss: White Pass and Yukon Route train. Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska Beautiful Fjord. We couldn't get right up to the glacier but it was still a great day. Very poor, the ship was beautiful but entire experience not good because of indifference to excellence and non-caring atttitude of the staff... even my parents who are very forgiving noticed the horrible attitude of service. Ship Details: Entertainment & Activities Activities: Fitness center did not open until 7am, and it was packed not that clean. Entertainment: Very average. Comedian white white hair and dark glasses almost knocked us off the ramp on our way to the boat, renforcing the low quality of customer service and what the staff and employees think of the guest. Zipline adventure was incredible, the staff at this excursion were awesome. The garden adventure was really pretty average and more hipe that substance. Don't Miss: Sipline adventure, red dog saloon. Ketchikan, Alaska Lumberjack show was fun. Lumberjack show was great, as with all destinations, shopping was not great, most stores were not stocked and did not have great selection of what was in stock. Don't Miss: Lumberjack show. Skagway, Alaska Stunning landscape- unbelieveable dog sledding experience. Dog sledding and helicopter tour was a must see. Don't Miss: Dog sledding/ helicopter flightseeing tour. Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska Not a great experience, they were charing for blankets on deck. We did not get very close to the glaciers and did not see any wildlife.
