Overall experience.
by Steven from Ellensburg, Washington
Sailing date:
Jul 2007
Pros:
Staff, activities and cleanliness.
For our first cruise, this was an outstanding experience. Everything was above our expectations except the food and dessert. We were expecting outstanding cuisine and the food in general was average and the desserts were overall poor. The food was counter balanced by the whole cruise experience, staff friendliness and outstanding activities.

Inside passage is beautiful. Everyday the ship was so close to the british columbia and alaska wilds that the cruise was a outside panarama of ever changing beauty.
Don't Miss:
The white pass & yukon rail road excursion in skagway.
Juneau, Alaska
Glacier beautiful. The excursion to the glacier was great. They had an excellent park service building that explained how glaciers are formed and why they are receeding.
Don't Miss:
Glacier and Fish hatchery.
Ketchikan, Alaska
Ketchican was beautiful and rainy. Took a trolly tour of the town. The people who went to the lumber jack excursion said it was great. Our tour was good.
Don't Miss:
Lumber jack excursion.
Cruise Sawyer Glacier
Fair. The ship was far away from the glacier and we could not see any calfing of the ice face.

Alaska 2007. We had sunny weather the entire trip, which I was told is never the case!
Don't Miss:
The Tracy Arm Excursion.
Juneau, Alaska
Juneau 2007. We went up in the tram and got some beautiful views before heading to Mendenhall Glacier. Our tour driver was wonderful. Mendenhall is not to be missed!
Don't Miss:
Mendenhall Glacier and the tramway (weather permitting).
Ketchikan, Alaska
Ketchican 2007. We arrived early in the day and took the self-guided walking tour around town. Creek Street was charming. The Lumberjack show was overpriced so we skipped it.
Don't Miss:
Creek street.
Cruise Sawyer Glacier
Tracy Arm Excursion 2007. We booked the excursion through Norwegian that allowed us to take a smaller boat ahead of the ship to cruise Sawyer Glascier North and South. The scenery was breathtaking. I stayed outside the entire time, but sane people are able to stay warm inside the boat.
Don't Miss:
I definetly recommend taking the Tracy Arm Excursion. You get closer to the glaciers than the cruise ship ever could.

Purser's office.
by Anna from AZ
Sailing date:
Feb 2006
Pros:
The rooms, I had an outside cabin and was very pleased.
After waiting in line for 4 hours to board then come to our room and find the port changes, and the room not having 4 separate beds, I was beyond upset. I went to the purser's desk, she found another cabin for my daughter and granddaughter, this helped offset the other somewhat, she was very helpful and patient. I do not like the free style dining, the flexibility is nice, but you don't get to meet others. The food was not bad, but not that good. There wasn't enough entertainment, like more places to dance, and there would be too much time between shows, so there was a lot of dead time. The ship was beautiful, our room very nice, especially the bathroom. My main complaint would be the price's at the bars for drinks is ridiculous. We spend money for the cruise, airfare, then get on board for more gouging, I would buy more if it was reasonable, especially things like beer and soda. I don't even book the tours anymore, they are too expensive. Not everyone is wealthy, the average person, saves and plans for a long time to be able to take a cruise, prices should be much more reasonable, once you get on board.

Pros:
Relaxed pace and good service.
Cons:
The disembarkation Hassle
A well run Ship by NCL in all respects. Friendly and helpful staff, lots of good entertainment, wide selection of restaurants and food choices. The ship is showingi it's age, somewhat, but that did not detract from from the overall very posiive cruise experience.

The variety of the upscale dinning.
The freestyle dinning was ideal for accomodating our infant grandchild who often required us to modify the timing of our meals.

NCL
I really had no expectations being my first cruise. Would never have booked if NCL indicated smoking was ok for balcony cabins, but clearly it is. Not just outside, but inside. Horrible experience with guest services complaining about the adjacent cabin smelling up my room. Not recognized as a safety issue by guest services even though it's inside and no ashtrays are provided. Nothing was done about it after 3 complaints. Then, after the adjacent cabin had an "ice-bucket water spill" (so I was told) that required multiple industrial floor fans to dry the cabin and hallway out, the smoking suddenly stopped for the remainder of the trip. Coincidence? Who knows? But I am miffed that guest services ignored my complaints until my problem became theirs and much bigger.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
The boat is past its prime. Some facilities were lacking in equipment. Number of guests wore formal wear from time to time. I didn't fancy the ship to be of that caliber.
Dining/Food
Not bad. Better than cafeteria food, but not as good as bar and grill restaurants. Did not try premium restaurants.
Stateroom Quality
Cabin wasn't too cramped. Have seen smaller bathrooms in NYC hotels.
Ship Staff Quality
Friendly, but not solutions oriented. A smile with little action is a let down.
Entertainment & Activities
Lousy for someone in their 40s.

Horrible, Horrible, Horrible
by Carol C from Atlanta, GA
Sailing date:
Dec 2010
Cons:
Absolute disregard for customers
Evidently their was a maintenance problem with the ship. Instead of going to St. Thomas and St Marrten, the decision was made to take us to Samana in the Dominican Republic and then to their own "private" island in the Bahamas. Samana was depolorable with beggers almost attacking people. We were close to several at least more acceptable destinations such as the Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico, etc. but of course, I am sure the cruise line did not have to pay for port charges for the island and not much, if any, for Samana. The attitude of Norwegian was "too bad, so sad". I would never ever book another cruise with Norwegian. The cruise line has offered us another cruise with 30% off if booked within a year. In most cases, we could get a better deal elsewhere.

The ladies who greeted us at the buffet were very friendly and uplifting. The head of hotel services, head of guest services totally ignored the customers and were rude.

Great Experience.
by Jud from Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Sailing date:
Nov 2006
Pros:
Its' ambience.
This was my first cruise and while I wasn't quite sure what to expect, I was overwhelmed with the whole experience. The accommodations, the food, the staff....all were great. Even the cabin was more comfortable and roomy than I thought it would be.
