A good cruise by Jeff B from orlando, FL
Sailing date: Dec 2011

Pros:
The service

Cons:
Cigarette smoking in the casino

The shows and food were good. Port visits were interesting and gave us time to see a few places. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Good first cruise! by Courtney C. from Siler City, NC
Sailing date: Dec 2011

Pros:
The entertainment.

Cons:
The buffet food.

I really enjoyed the entertainment they had on board. The inside rooms were really big with the exception of the bathroom. The ship is very big on washing your hands. While entering the buffet whether just passing through or actually eating they are standing there as you enter the doorway with a spray bottle with hand sanitizer in it saying "washy washy, happy happy."

As far as the ship quality goes everything was more than what I had expected. It was really nice and easy to find locations on the ship.

Dining/Food
The quality of food in the buffet lines were not very enjoyable. I did not bring my kid but if I had there wouldn't of had anything for her to eat on board. There was some type of fish every day/night and all the other foods were not your average American, Asian, etc. foods. After the first night we went to the more formal dining on the ship, that food was much better than the buffet. Expected all the food to be great thought.

Overall the room was much bigger than expected. Lots of storage. Bathroom was not very big and the shower was barely big enough for one person to stand in.

Not all I paid for ! by A Traveler from Macon, GA
Sailing date: Dec 2010

Pros:
Food, shows, not overcrowded

Cons:
Port changes

This was my first cruise so I can't make a comparison, but I think there are better cruises to be had. I enjoyed the food, shows and overall feel of the ship but was dissappointed to have 2 of our 3 ports changed because of "technical difficulties" with one of the motors. After having to slow down they did what they could to compensate but I felt I didn't get what I paid for. We went to Samana, Dominican Republic and Great Stirrup Cay instead of St.Martin and St.Thomas. Weather happens and accidents happen but mechanical failures are preventable. As for the crew, they were great. They really make you feel welcome. Would I go again ? Yes, overall I did enjoy it.

Pros:
Destination.

I did not appreciate the fact that I spend hundreds extra for dining - almost all the restaurants had a fee to dine there - unless u went to the regular dining room.

Mostly satisfied. by James from Lansing, MI
Sailing date: Jun 2006

Pros:
Entertainment.

Most of the trip was fine. Please be aware of the art auction! We purchased a piece of art and never received it. We won another art piece in a drawing and never received it. After a few months we did receive a credit on our credit card for the art work we purchased. This was small satisfaction. We really wanted the one we purchased and we would have liked the one we won. This situation will make us not use this cruise line again. It will cause us to give a less than good recommendation for this cruise line to anyone who asks us about cruise lines.

Great first-time cruise by Daniel D from Denver, CO
Sailing date: May 2013

Pros:
Cruise experience, destinations, at-sea days

Cons:
Skagway, Desserts

The Norwegian Sun was a very fun ship with interesting amenities. It is not as large as many, so there are not as many on-board activities, but it is also not nearly as crowded. It was not unusual for me to enjoy the sun deck by myself in the evenings.

Dining/Food
Meals were usually good (except steak, strangely enough, which seemed to be boiled.) Desserts were from OK to terrible, including the very worst brownie I have ever eaten in my life (basically chocolatey sawdust.) Loved the freestyle dining option though, and would strongly recommend it.

Some leaks in the hallway near our room (apparently someone's plumbing was not working as expected), but the room itself was very nice and comfortable. Not large, but we knew that and intentionally picked one of the cheaper rooms.

There was probably more of interest to the average passenger (60ish and retired?) than to me (30 and very active), but I was never bored.

Pleasantly Surprised by A Traveler from Oregon
Sailing date: May 2012

Pros:
Freestyle Dining

Someone once told me that Norwegian was a rank below the other lines. We have sailed Royal, Princess, Holland, and Carnival. I found it to be wonderful. The ship, staff, food, and entertainment were as good as if not better than other cruises. The itinerary to Scandinavia meant it was the trip of a lifetime. Can't think of anything negative to say. The buffet was what you would expect and not any different than the other cruise lines. Plus the price we paid was hundreds less!

Overall, a great cruise. by Krist and Austin S. from Columbus, GA
Sailing date: Mar 2012

Pros:
The 'freestyle crusing' aspect. We were able to do what we wanted, when we wanted.

Cons:
The inconsistent service quality.

Overall, the ship was great. It was nice that it was a relatively small ship, because everything was in close proximity. However, I don't know if the ship being small made it more prone to moving more in rough waters. The first couple days of the cruise were rough, and our stateroom moved quite a bit. Service was average. At times we had really great service, and at other times we had pretty poor service. The poor service was mostly in the main dining rooms. Specialty restaurants and the sports bar had EXCELLENT service. The food was pretty good in the main dining rooms, the buffets were average (but thats with most buffets). The food offered at the Sports Bar was very good. We also ate at Moderno, which was EXCELLENT. Almost all specialty restaurants had no wait, except for Teppanyaki (which my husband and I didn't understand, because I feel like you can get japansese hibachi food anywhere). Regarding the ports of call. Cozumel: This was actually our favorite port. We did the mexican cuising workshop shore excursion, which was great! Grand Cayman: expensive. We 'accidentally' spent $65 dollars on lunch on the island, which was not very good food at all. Then my husband spent $8 on a bottle of beer. However, they do have a history museum about the island, which a lady we met on the cruise said was very informative and didn't cost to much ($5). Ocho Rios: Very dirty. Also, the Jamaicans will get right in your face. I would recommend doing an excursion (like zip lining, which we did (very fun)). Great Stirrup Cay: Very pretty island, and the buffet norwegian had on the island was great. Beware, the drinks on the island are more expensive!
