Perfection!
by A Traveler from St Louis, MO
Sailing date:
Dec 2012
Pros:
Service, Food
Cons:
Age group
Ship is very clean...It never felt crowded even though we we were in Christmas holiday cruise. Plenty of time at pot of calls..My only complaint is that the average age of passengers in the ship is very high. Their entertainment is also tuned to 70s!

Overall poor value.
by Dennis from New Jersey
Sailing date:
Aug 2007
Pros:
Its service people.
My wife and I do not get much if a chance to travel. When we do we always upgrade and pay a little extra for more comfort and better experience overall. I was disapointed with the overall value of this trip. The whole cruise experience to me seems to be like a tourist trap.

Relaxed stroll. We just stayed close to port to shop and eat. Very good experience.
Don't Miss:
Local vendors and food.
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Peggys cove. Wonderfull little village and worth the trip. Save time and skip lunch.
Don't Miss:
Peggys cove.
Saint John, New Brunswick
To little time. Just walked to shopping district. Met some of the friendliest people. But no time to experience any thing else.

Excellent First Cruise Experience.
by Charles from Annandale, VA
Sailing date:
Aug 2007
Pros:
Smaller size relative to some other cruise ships. The fact that you are allowed to bring your own wine and champagne. I would not take a cruise on a line that does not permit this.
Overall experience was very pleasant. Comparable to a visit at a 4-5 star hotel. We enjoyed the relatively smaller ship (approx. 1200 passengers) and expect that we would not enjoy anything larger. The shore excursions were well organized and conducted.

Nice Introduction to Newport. A place we had always wished to visit. Would have preferred a longer day to give more time for tours of mansions, and just walking around.
Don't Miss:
Ocean walk.
Portland, Maine
Recommend Excursion to Kennebunkport. We enjoyed the basic excursion to Kennebunkport. Sufficient bus touring to get a feel for the area and a look at the coastline, and plenty of time to walk around and do some shopping.
Halifax, Nova Scotia
Halifax an unexpected pleasure. Beautiful waterfront development and impressive historical fortress (Citadel). We had an very nice excursion to Peggy's Cove, which is beautiful, but the large number of tourist (in additional to cruise boat passengers) detracts from the overall charm. However, it is possible to obtain excellent photo vantage points that obscure the crowds. Halifax is one place we wished we had more time to explore.
Don't Miss:
The waterfront, the Citadel and Peggy's Cove.
Saint John, New Brunswick
St. John is St. John. I have been to St. John several times on private sailing trips. It is a nice enough town, but much less impressive than Halifax. The most interesting feature is the St. John River and the Reversing Falls. I have been throught the falls twice by boat, but had never seen the water actually reversing, as we did on our shore excursion.
Don't Miss:
The Reversing Falls.

by Robert from Virginia Beach, VA
Sailing date:
Oct 2006
Pros:
The staff.
We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary by going to sea on the HAL ms Maasdam, sailing from Norfolk, VA for the Southern Caribbean. The cruise exceeded our expectations which were already very high. The ship was beautiful, the staff were superb and the shore excursions great fun. We will go again in a couple of years and are already looking forward to the experience.

The Holland America - Maasdam.
by Marlene from Ohio
Sailing date:
Jan 2007
Pros:
The food and the staff were great.
We also liked the perks of the wine and the specialty dining reservation that was provided with our reservation. We liked all of the stops except Half Moon Cay which is owned by Holland America.
