However we never felt crowded, even though there are over 6000 passengers. Super friendly staff, and the accomodations are clean and new. The entertainment was great, though you need to make reservations to get in.The ports are too commercialized in my view. The Labadee haiti stop is a 3 star beach. The Cozumel and Jamaica stops are mostly for shopping. However, if you book other excursions, you can get away from the commercialization. Overall Rating: About the Reviewer: Age: 30 - 49 Cruise Experience: First cruise Traveler Type: Couple Stateroom Type: Balcony A Great First Cruise but not perfect! by Ken S. from United States Sailing date: Jul 2011 Pros: Fantastic Boat, very clean, a lot to do, great shows and activities, nice stateroom Cons: For those with food allergies be aware that the food in the Windjammer buffet is labeled extremely poorly. I only gave the boat a good rating because I had a very bad experience on the last night of the cruise at the Windjammer buffet. I took what was labeled simply as "Chocolate Cake" and had a severe allergic reaction. I found out later that it had a hazelnut cream but there was no mention of any type of nut on the cake label or any mention of the possibility that it may have a nut ingredient. For those with allergies just putting a sign that states "may contain nuts" would have been enough to keep me far away from it. Even though we had an amazingly great time on the boat this experience did put a damper on our enthusiasm for Royal Caribbean and the Oasis of the Seas. I'm surprised that Royal Caribbean does not take food allergies seriously enough to just put a simple allergen warning sign in front of certain foods at the buffet. The buffet managers response was even more puzzling when my wife brought it to his attention. He admitted that it did have a hazelnut cream and went on to send us a plate of chocolate covered strawberries to our stateroom to make things better (insulting at best). To this day I'm not sure if the sign was mislabeled or if this is just standard labeling for buffet service. Other than this problem the cruise was wonderful. Ship Details: Ship Quality The ship was very clean and had Purell anti-bacterial dispensers located throughout the ship and in all eating areas. By the second day I was able to make it around the ship to all the places we wanted to go with great ease. The ship is very large but is laid out very well. The decor throughout the ship was top notch and very appropriate for each neighborhood. Dining/Food I was not really happy with the buffet selection and as mentioned previously the food in the buffet not being labeled completely for those with allergies was very disappointing. The food in the main dining room was very good though and there is a big difference between the quality of food in the MDR when compared to the buffet. There are also many complementary cafes and other complementary eateries located throughout the ship if you don't want the Windjammer buffet or MDR. Stateroom Quality The stateroom was very nice and clean, and we had a pretty good view of central park. The bed was also very comfortable. The shower is a little small but not really a big deal unless your a very large person. Ship Staff Quality The staff was very cordial for the most part. Sometimes we weren't sure if it was genuine or if they are aiming for a big tip. When we first got on the ship it initially seemed that some of the staff was a little standoffish. It must be very difficult to work on a cruise ship week after week, so I can understand the staff not always being 100% perfect. I couldn't imagine having to attend to so many people week after week and to always be smiling and gracious. Entertainment & Activities There is so much to do on the ship and can even be a little overwhelming. The shows were really good and all the athletic activities were great as well. Just make sure to use your daily cruise compass to plan your day. It took us a few days to get use to using the cruise compass that gets delivered to the room daily. The fitness room was outstanding and as good as some of the best gyms I have been in. Ship Details: Ship Quality Dining/Food Dinners were great-the food, the service - just excellent. The service and food in other places (for free) didn't impress us so much. Stateroom Quality Room service was very good, clean and nice surprises when we returned to our cabins :). Cons: So many people that the lines at customer service were long and some events were a crush. This is a terrific ship and this was my second cruise on it. The first cruise must have had fewer passengers because I didn't notice the long lines or the crush of people at any events. The entertainment is excellent and I enjoyed the trip despite the overcrowding. Don't worry about finding stuff to do on the ship - computerized tvs are everywhere & you push a button & it gives you options - from what to do & where to eat. Don't bother with casino - so little bonuses/payouts that everyone was DISGUSTED. Took fun right out of it. Sunblock spf 50 at least (SEVERE burns were very common on our cruise.) Excursions were better booked in port. Watch the time - we left a few travelers on an island... Ship Details: Ship Quality Beautiful, clean, easy to figure out Dining/Food Dining Room -We didn't have a choice about prepaid gratuities (it added it in) so we had "My time dining" which it looks like you HAVE to set up ahead of time - but you can change it - so no stress. Plus you can just walk in & usually get in. WindJammer - Good buffet. Not a 10, but probably an 8. Be careful of the extra charges "fresh squeezed orange juice" versus just orange juice... Stateroom Quality smallest room/cheapest available and it was still spacious and orderly/clean Ship Staff Quality Staff needs to be tipped - the prepaid gratuities don't go to all the people they should - so be aware, any tipping should be done directly to them and cash. Loved Oasis of the Seas, sitting in Central Park in the afternoon, sipping a cool drink and looking up at the sky is breath taking. Had the most delicious dinner at Giovanni's. It's the best! Skip Chops and go there instead. We still talk about our dinner there it was that good! No problem getting a lounge chair by the pool. Getting on and off the ship was easy, not much of a wait. Royal Carribean knows how to treat you right. This is our 4th cruise and by far our best. Can't wait to go back again! Ship Details: Ship Quality Dining/Food Giovanni's is the best. If you can only do one specialty restaurant, go there. You won't be disappointed. Our waiter knew the menu and directed us to choices he knew we'd love-and he was spot on. The site was great, very good tour but hot. It was extremely hot. I wish we booked some time on the beaches which were gorgeous. Don't Miss: The beaches at Tulum are beautiful, wish we planned to go there. Labadee (Cruiseline Private Island) Labadee was much nicer than our last visit. Easy off and on the ship. Nice visit. Don't Miss: Dragons breath. It's free and you've got to hear the dragon once in your lifetime. Falmouth, Jamaica Took at tour to Dunns River Falls with Yardley Tours. Great time. Most restaurants on that floor were specialty ones $$$$, but that place was free and the food. Bit healthier than the usual burgers etc Stateroom Quality Couch bed out son slept on was huge! Beautiful private island everything is free. Bouncy stuff in water for the whole family, cayacking,floaties,sailing, peddle boats etc. food great too! On this cruise, the food at dinner was good, but the quality of the food has deteriorated over the many cruises we have taken. Stateroom Quality We reserved a category FO stateroom and were surprised and disappointed to find the layout had changed. The stateroom on this cruise did not provide the privacy for adults found on other RCC ships in the category FO. Big, beautiful and incredible. It is such a incorporation of so many great ideas. Types of shows and the entertainment that they bring. The Aqua show to the Musicals and everything in between. The diversity of the dining experience's are a great concept and add to the overall enjoyment. The fitness center is great. The activities are neverending. Ship Details: Ship Quality Dining/Food Needed more vegetarian fare outside of paid dining venues. Only place to get a vegeburger was at Johnny Rockets which had a cover charge to get in. Need trays to carry food. Hard to juggle silverware, several plates and drink at same time. Stateroom Quality Ship Staff Quality Seemed shortstaffed at the Windjammer cafe. Wife is handicapped and no one came to help her get food. Tough without a tray. Multiple trips to food islands to get what she needed. Would nave been nice for a little help.
