Ripped offer - no vacation. by
John from Florida, USA Sailing date: Apr 2006A nightmare... I felt exploited and ripped off. "Thanks for the "royal treatment." Never again. And I'll be sure to tell 100 others. Entertainment & ActivitiesActivities: Ridiculous prices for massages, spas... something like $250/hour... absurd and insulting.... again held hostage on the open seas.
Entertainment: Junk food, "wedding-style" ... CABERET-style "MAME" ... BORING. When I'm 105, I MIGHT be interested in being "entertained" with such druel. 1 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

  Upgrade Service doesn't work! by
Julie from Marshfield, MA Sailing date: Oct 2006Pros: Size and number of activities on board. The trip down to Bermuda was rough but not too bad, and the room itself was very nice. As soon as we left Bermuda we hit a horrible storm, by the middle of the first night at sea returning we were in 23'+ seas and I could not get out of the bed without getting thrown across the room. Not to mention the seasickness... it was the most horrifying experience, when the water filled the portal over our bed, the sound was deafening! We thought for sure the glass would break and we would be drowned. We got through the night and by 9am we ran from the room in what clothes we could grab. When we got to midship we begged for another room somewhere out of the bow - first we were told we had to wait for the manager to come on duty in a few hours. We went to the highest deck and tried to nap on a deck chair. We went back to the desk around noon and were told the mgr doesn't come on duty till 5pm! We had to wait the entire day! At 5pm we were told to come back at 6pm. Finally at 6 they said a room just became available (I guess someone went overboard!) and they gave us the key. Now we had to go back to the bow room and get our stuff, when we got there it was amazing... they had covered the entire porthole with a steel plate because the glass had cracked from the impact of the waves!!! We grabbed everything and dragged it all back to midship so we could pack, then spent our last evening in a very nice room, midship on the 8th floor with a balcony... about 15 mins was spent awake - then we woke up back in Boston. This ship is beautiful... the best service from the wait staff, cabin staff and bartenders - the amenities were top of the line and the public spaces were beautiful. Entertainment & Activities

  Fun Springbreak Cruise by
Doug M from Louisville, KY Sailing date: Mar 2013Pros: Stateroom and excursions Cons: Food and activities on the ship Overall the cruise was good. The stateroom had plenty of room for the four of us, the food was hit and miss, the stateroom attendant was great. Our excursions were a lot of fun. Ship QualityShip seemed very clean and well taken care of. Seemed like there was someone cleaning something everywhere we went on the ship. Dining/FoodFood was just OK, I was expecting great. My son wanted some soft serve ice cream at night, but there was no place to get any. The breakfast and lunch buffets the food was OK, just not what I was expecting. Stateroom Qualitywe had a balcony with a partially obscured view. That was nothing, just a platform that was used for cleaning. It was a great room, the beds for the kids were great. The attendant we had was on top of everything. When does he sleep? Ship Staff QualityAs I mentioned above, the stateroom attendant did a great job. Our waiters in the mine dining room should have been better. We sat in another waiter's table one night and had excellent service, so I don't know why our regular team wasn't up to the task (never filling water, not asking if we would like more bread, not really asking if we wanted anything besides water to drink) Entertainment & ActivitiesEntertainment on board was good. There needs to be a little more variety in the activities, and maybe more ping pong tables. 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

  Jewel of a vacation by
A Traveler from florida Sailing date: Dec 2012Pros: smaller ship, less crowds Cons: entertainment Our 5th RCI cruise and we still love it.We chose this smaller ship over the massive newer Oasis of the seas. Turns out our captain also prefered the smaller ship to, as he came back to the Jewel after a year and a half on the Oasis, wanting a ship he could get to know everyone on. Service was great and food always changing and fresh. We did fell the entertainment could have been better overall. On a side note, a friend was on the Oasis and noted it was just too big, crowded, service not to par and entertainment was awful. We'll be back to RCI, sticking to the smaller ships. Ship Quality

  Great way to travel by
B. M. H. from Tampa, FL Sailing date: Dec 2012Pros: relaxing, great staff, great experience on a wonderful ship Cons: Smoking in the casino, the whole 6 floor smelled like smoke, the theater, made it terrible Great trip, the smoke in the casino was terrible. Very annoying to walk by and be in. I played the tables, but not for very long due to the smoke. Even at tables where you couldn't smoke it was terrible. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodFood was hit or miss, wasn't great, wasn't bad. Stateroom QualityLittle small, however it's a ship, so it was comfortable. Ship Staff Quality

  A nice getaway by
A Traveler from Citrus County, FL Sailing date: Dec 2012Pros: The public rooms were beautiful Cons: Tight balcony stateroom This was our first time on a Royal Caribbean ship so we were comparing it with our (so far favorite) previous Holland America cruises. It was also the first time we chose a balcony. Loved the balcony but found the stateroom cramped. Food was good in the Tides with excellent service; in the Windjammer there were lots of choices. We did not especially like the entertainment (the last show was aborted due to technical difficulties) and the activities did not entice us. However, we had a good time, made new friends, and enjoyed being on board. Ship Quality
