Beautiful Ship with Great Ports of Call by
Ashley C from Memphis, TN Sailing date: May 2013Pros: Ports of Calls Cons: Bedding and lack of activities Ship was beautiful and staff was exceptional. Very clean at all times. Ship QualityAlways clean. Dining/FoodFood was good. Some nights I think we made wrong choices in the menu items as those choices were just average but overall we were pleased with the food options. Stateroom QualityStateroom was clean. We stayed with my mother in the room with us as she had to use the pull down bed and sofa bed. She claims neither bed was comfortable. Sofa bed leaned downward at an angle and the pull down bed was hard. Our King sized bed was not the best either in comfort. While we were extremely tired when we went to bed, we found ourselves tossing and turning to find a comfortable spot. Ship Staff QualityVery pleasant and extremely friendly by 99% of the people on board. Entertainment & ActivitiesThis is the one area of the cruise that I wish there was more. Yes, there was shows but I felt they were lacking. We have cruised before and there would always be one or two comedy shows which we love to go to. There was only one guy and he lasted about 30 minutes for the whole trip. The other shows were just average. I felt the cruise could do more bingo, game show nights in the theater and have the audience interacting with the people on stage. The other shows were in the very small areas of the boats which were not comfortable nor that entertaining. 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.

  Great First Cruise! by
Stephanie B. from Chapel Hill, NC. Sailing date: May 2013Pros: Delicious and plentiful food, friendly staff, 24 hour activities Cons: smoking allowed in certain public areas (casino, decks, and specific smoking bars) This was our first cruise, so we didn't really have anything to compare it to, except for "The Love Boat"! We were pleasantly surprised. There are multiple inclusive dining and snack options, including what became a nightly occurrence- room service! The food in the dining room was comparable to a VERY nice restaurant and although we only had one "formal night", it was the perfect atmosphere to try out a new dress every evening. If you prefer a more casual dining experience, the Windjammer was just great. Although a buffet, the food was always fresh and delicious and there weren't long lines to contend with.
Aside from food, there were other things to do. Activities such as "Game Shows", bingo, mini-golf, ping-pong, billiards, swimming, etc, allow for non-stop days if you wish. Or just relax on the deck on a lounge chair, while looking out at the ocean.
Our favorite lounge became the Safari Lounge, which located at the back of the ship. We would sit along the windows and watch the ocean as we sailed.
We would definitely do another cruise, and wouldn't hesitate to sail with the Jewel again. Ship Quality
Dining/Food
Stateroom QualityThe only thing we didn't like is the fact that there was no daylight in our inner room. That made it very hard to wake up in the morning. Ship Staff Quality

  Fun Springbreak Cruise by
Doug M from Louisville, KY Sailing date: Mar 2013Pros: Stateroom and excursions Cons: Food and activities on the ship Overall the cruise was good. The stateroom had plenty of room for the four of us, the food was hit and miss, the stateroom attendant was great. Our excursions were a lot of fun. Ship QualityShip seemed very clean and well taken care of. Seemed like there was someone cleaning something everywhere we went on the ship. Dining/FoodFood was just OK, I was expecting great. My son wanted some soft serve ice cream at night, but there was no place to get any. The breakfast and lunch buffets the food was OK, just not what I was expecting. Stateroom Qualitywe had a balcony with a partially obscured view. That was nothing, just a platform that was used for cleaning. It was a great room, the beds for the kids were great. The attendant we had was on top of everything. When does he sleep? Ship Staff QualityAs I mentioned above, the stateroom attendant did a great job. Our waiters in the mine dining room should have been better. We sat in another waiter's table one night and had excellent service, so I don't know why our regular team wasn't up to the task (never filling water, not asking if we would like more bread, not really asking if we wanted anything besides water to drink) Entertainment & ActivitiesEntertainment on board was good. There needs to be a little more variety in the activities, and maybe more ping pong tables. 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

  Jewel of a vacation by
A Traveler from florida Sailing date: Dec 2012Pros: smaller ship, less crowds Cons: entertainment Our 5th RCI cruise and we still love it.We chose this smaller ship over the massive newer Oasis of the seas. Turns out our captain also prefered the smaller ship to, as he came back to the Jewel after a year and a half on the Oasis, wanting a ship he could get to know everyone on. Service was great and food always changing and fresh. We did fell the entertainment could have been better overall. On a side note, a friend was on the Oasis and noted it was just too big, crowded, service not to par and entertainment was awful. We'll be back to RCI, sticking to the smaller ships. Ship Quality
