An unforgettable trip.
by Brian from Pennsylvania
Sailing date:
Jul 2007
Pros:
Dining rooms: beautiful and excellent food.
The Sun Princess cruise to Alaska was wonderful. Much closer to the glaciers than we thought. The service on the ship was consistently excellent. Even the weather cooperated. All in all, a fantastic vacation.

A great cruise.
by Roberta from California
Sailing date:
Jun 2007
Pros:
Size.
I have never cruised before so I didn't know what to expect. Friends told me I would want a balcony and I am glad I listened. We were on the Inside Alaskan cruise and I was pleased to be able to view the scenery from my private space. It was cold so I had the balcony walls to block the wind. We were able to relax and constantly check the sites. We saw orcas early in the morning and moonlight on the water without leaving our cabin. The food was wonderful. We enjoyed the anytime dining option. A few times we had to wait to be seated but not for long. I enjoyed meeting many different people. I was disappointed when we were given private two people tables. Next time I will ask for a different table to meet more new friends. The buffet was great. I was trying to not gain a lot of pounds so I was looking for salads and fruit. Both were plentiful and good. The destinations were fun but I should have signed up for more tours. I was trying to save money but found we were stuck in the town and the shopping. I enjoy souvenir shopping but was turned off with all the jewelry stores that are in Alaska in the summer and Caribbean in the winter. I bought the coupon book from the ship and found myself running from jewelry store to jewelry store to pick up very tiny gemstones and charms for a charm bracelet. Not worth the time and effort. You can get some of the tours when you arrive on the deck but I kept thinking we could find things to do on are own. I recommend the park service walk in Skagway but otherwise we didn't find much. We did do the whale watching in Juneau and had a great experience. We also took the bus ride in Skagway to see the Pass. I would have liked to go on more tours to feel I saw more of Alaska. I chose Princess Lines because of the size of the ship. It was medium size and I rarely felt like I was in a crowd. There were tons of activities but if you aren't athletic or a dancer or a gambler it was limited. We enjoyed the wine tasting and the naturalist talks.

Activities: I would have liked more lecture type activities. There were four talks by naturalists. I wanted more.

Whale watching. We had an excellent opportunity to see about eight whales bubble net fishing. This is a rare experience so we were very lucky. It was great! We did not have much time at the glacier, one half hour. I was disappointed that folks on our tour talked the driver into cutting it short so they could go shopping.
Ketchikan, Alaska
Skagway, Alaska
Skagway has a lot to offer. We enjoyed the bus ride to the pass and the park service's guided tour. We ate in town and paid more than it was worth.
Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska
Tracy Arm. The scenery was awesome. We were disappointed because we were unable to go as far as they do normally. I am not quite sure what happened but another ship was in front of us and I think that made it impossible for us to go closer to the glacier. We didn't see the glacier.

Skagway is a hoot. We left our passports on the ship and so the shore excursions were limited. We ended up on the local buss tour which was informative and fun and at times a little cheesie.
Don't Miss:
The train to the summit.
Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska
Very cold. The breath taking forde is wonderful we arrived at the mouth at five thirty am and reached the furthest point in land about ten am the view was great the weather was perfect and the temperture on deck with the wind chill was about twenty degrees.

by Megan from Fresno, CA

Pros:
The room attendant was extremely friendly and helpful.
Good, at times we felt like we were the only ones on the ship. The best excursion was a canoe trip to the face of Mendenhall Glacier (Princess called it: Mendenhall Float Trip)!

Lots of eagles.

Very foggy at the top of the summit, all the towns begin to look the same at this point. Garden City Highlights tour sucked, but to the top was good, especially the tour guide.

Nice views. We couldn't get very close ... 2 miles away.

Great experience would do this cruise ag
by Debbie from Binghamton, NY
Sailing date:
Jul 2007
Pros:
I was really impressed with how quiet the cabins were no noise from people above you or beside you. We had children next to us and never heard a word.
I would like to express our sincere appreciation for the cruise we just completed. This was our first and I can't tell you how pleased we were. We were aboard the Sun Princess cruising to Alaska. Our Captain was wonderful the entire staff aboard were very polite and helpful being it was our first cruise. Manuel in the dining room went out of his way to make sure all was well at our table. One older gentleman asked for Potatoes au gratin and the next night there they were. Your staffs in the buffet were so polite and courteous. Our stateroom made sure we were kept comfortable. Our bus driver gave us a tour and explained the history of some significant buildings and areas. We are highly recommending this cruise to Alaska to our friends and telling them they need to cruise on your ship to Alaska. The entertainment was superb. We enjoyed every minute and are looking forward to another cruise in the future.

by Byron from Chicago, IL

Jul 2007
Pros:
Its staff.
Ship's condition overall was less than we had come to expect from Princess. Service was excellent, but amenities and overall appearance were less than spectacular. Weather was consistently poor (which is entirely out the control of the cruiseline, of course), but we did not find the ship itself to be a sufficient counterbalance.
