Staterooms and Balconies
Well at least she floats!!!. My wife and I booked the inaugural cruise to be part of something special. I guess we blinked and missed it. Not a handshake, not a glass of champagne, not Dennis Sheehan standing in the atrium welcoming us aboard...nothing. Hell, Buddy (The Cake Boss) could have swam across the river from Hoboken, Oh that's right, he was on the pre-inaugural cruise the week before with his family) Since we didn't haven't have to spend anything on airfare, we booked a mid-ship mini-suite. Quite a fancy name for an over glorified tiny balcony cabin. the cabin is the same size as a regular balcony cabin with a bathroom that's 3' wider. (Big deal a double sink). The balcony was a joke. If you sat facing the water only 1 chair fit(with your knees hitting the glass railing) while the other one had to be placed sideways A 12"x12" table was all that fit between the chairs. there wasn't a table or chair in the cabin. There was no information book in the room (that came on Thurs eve.) It took me 2 hours to figure out how to turn the lights on in the cabin (you have to put your room key in a holder above the light switch (I get it, no key, no lights). The corridors were way too narrow, the pool (1) was too deep, hot tubs were the coldest I've ever been in on a cruise ship (14). fireworks display was overrated, way too crowded(they had to close off access to deck 16 because of overcrowding). NCL placed way too much emphasis on the specialty restaurants. Yes they were good, especially Cagney's and Le Bistro. main dining room and buffet was average at best. no food after 11 except for room service ($3.95 after midnight and a 1-1 1/2 hour wait even though they tell you 20-30 minutes. Entertainment was great. Rock of ages and Howl at the moon were the best. Staff was great, attentive, efficient. Save your money, don't book a mini suite, better yet, book a mini suite, on the Oasis or Allure of the Sea from Royal Carribean
