Very Sub-Par by
A Traveler from Orlando, FL Sailing date: May 2010Pros: Their private Island was nice, and they did a good job during the cruise of preventing long lines pretty much anywhere. Freestyle dining was a neat idea. Cons: Food was probably the worst of any cruise I've been on, and the same can be said for the service. Workers did not seem nice, rarely even said hello or held a door open for you! The waiters/waitresses were the worst, maybe because of the freestyle dining concept, where you never have the same table Castaway Cay was very nice for a cruise-company-owned island.
I rate this cruise as fair, simply because compared to any other cruise line (and even past NCL cruises), it didnt even come close. The food, the decor of the boat, the staff, etc., were all marginal at best. Part of the problem with the staff, especially the dining room waiters, is that because of the "freestyle dining", they no longer work toward getting better tips (which I frequently give to great wait-staff I've had on past cruises). Also, the average worker I walked by on the boat rarely said hi, and many didnt even hold a door open for me! Another example would be when we arrived at our room, there were guests in there! The guests claimed their keys let them in, but the staff said the door must have been propped open. I expected much better than this from NCL. My past NCL cruise was on the Norway, which was far a superior experience. The Sky was truley dissapointing.

Nassau, BahamasRENT A SCOOTER AND FIND YOUR OWN BEACHES/RESORTS. Definitely DO NOT pay the $100+ to spend the day at the Atlantis or Radisson pool. Take a scooter, do some site-seeing, find a nice resort to enjoy their beachfront with a few drinks.
Great Stirrup Cay (Cruiseline Private Island), BahamasVery clean, ample beach chairs, well organized, and lunch was served on the island.

Think Twice Before Booking NCL by
Chris H. from Tampa, FL Sailing date: Feb 2010Pros: Gambling Cons: Everything Else The ship was typical and the clientele average. Mostly couples and couples with their families. This is not a cruise for singles. I thought NCL was supposed to be ranked higher then Carnival and Royal Carribean but I have completely switched my opinion and easily put this cruise line at the bottom of the stack. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodI was very disappointed with the food. There was no real variety to the food as they had the same spread each day. There were a couple of specialty restaurants where you paid additional money and I tried the steakhouse and the cut of meat was not of good quality. Stateroom QualityNot worth the money to upgrade to a higher level Cost several hundred dollars more per person and you get a slightly larger window. Whoopie do! Ship Staff QualityI had a plugged sink for an entire day in my bathroom. I called the beginning of the day and found out ealy next morning it had never been reported. Even then it took another 4 hours for someone to come. Entertainment & ActivitiesEntertainment was a joke! 1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

Norwegian Sky dining a disappointment by
Robert A. from Naples, FL Sailing date: Feb 2009Pros: Le Bistro specialty restaurant was outstanding. Cons: Overall, the dining was poor. Ship was average. Dining was very poor. Ship Quality
Dining/FoodWe have cruised extensively with 2 other cruise lines. This was our first cruise with Norwegian Cruise Line. The dining on Norwegian Sky was disorganised & of far lessor quality than our previous experiences. In addition, the waitstaff were not well trained & service was slow. Breakfast in the Main Dining Room was an excrutiating experience. Le Bistro specialty restaurant was excellent. Cagney's specialty restaurant was mediocre. Stateroom Quality

  We were gouged! by
A Traveler from Saginaw, MI Sailing date: Jan 2009Pros: They let us on the boat early Cons: they charge you extra for everything! The staff was friendly but some of them seemed to have their hands out quite a bit when the boarding instructions clearly state that tipping is not required. Ship QualityThe ship is very nice but once you've been on it for a day you've seen everything. Dining/FoodThe food was only so-so in the "free" dining areas. There were others that charge extra but with them charging us up to 10 bucks a drink we never ate at those places. You can buy spirits in the duty free store but they wont let you have it until the cruise is over. Stateroom QualitySmall but nice Ship Staff QualityHelpful Entertainment & ActivitiesWay overpriced. All of it.

Don't Miss: Leaving Nassau, BahamasHasn't changed since we visited in 1991. I think I saw a shop selling the same cheap t-shirts
Don't Miss: You might enjoy an hour at Atlantis resort 4 out of 5 people found this review helpful.

  We were disappointed! by
Debbie and Bernie N from Indianapolis, IN Sailing date: Nov 2008Pros: The ports were nice Cons: the food at the buffet never changed. 5 out of 7 dining rooms charged a cover charge to eat there. Lacking activities. Having cruised twice before on a different cruise line, I was referred to Norwegian. I really was quite disappointed. My husband and I enjoyed the time we spent off the ship in the various ports, but always returned to the ship by mid afternoon. There was absolutely no planned activities until about 30 minutes prior to departure. The only thing for us to do was sit by the pool, read, or take a nap. We didn't pay to do that! The casino and shops were closed during port times, and we are not big drinkers, so were totally bored. The food on the buffet was the same daily, you can only eat so many burgers, hot dogs and fries. Although the fresh fruit was wonderful. the lines were long as well, but that is to be expected I guess. If you wanted to eat in a different dining room, 5 out of 7 of them had cover charges. We paid 20 dollars each to eat dinner at the steakhouse. The food was great, but we can eat for that back home. I also was not happy about the mandatory 10 dollar per day per guest "service charge" that went for tipping the staff. This is in addition to the automatic 15% gratuity added to any drink order, etc. I prefer to tip on my own based on the service received. The staff and crew were awesome. Very friendly and helpful. The stateroom was small, but very clean. All in all, we were disappointed in this cruise and will definately cruise again, just not with Norwegian cruise lines. Ship Quality
Dining/Fooddid not like needing to pay a per person cover to eat in certain dining rooms. The food on the buffet was the same daily Stateroom Qualityroom was a little small, but overall very nice Ship Staff Quality

  First Norwegian Cruise by
Chris R from Miami, FL Sailing date: May 2013Pros: The shows and comedian were great. This ship is awesome/clean. Cons: Service was just average--nobody was rude--but nobody was friendly/nice either. Food was just OK The ship itself was great, but it just seemed that everywhere we went it was hard to get a drink and nobody was really that friendly. The shows in the theatre were great. The food at the buffet and in the main dining was just OK. The activities (trivia games, contests, etc.) seemed like they were just going through the motions. With that said, I definitely would do this cruise again, however, only if it was lower price than the Royal Carr. Majesty of the Seas. If they were the same price, I'd go with Royal hands down. If you are subject to sea sickness, Norwegian Sky is great though--the ship is newer and much more stable than Majesty. Ship Quality
