not what I was hoping for
by LZC from nyc,ny
Sailing date:
Aug 2011
Pros:
didn't have to make beds or plan meals
Cons:
WAY TOO CONGESTED! Practically sitting on someone elses lap around pool, couldn't walk freely around with so many chairs set up, cabin hallways congested with linen carts.
Thought Norwegian would be a step up from others cruises.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Garbage strewn about outside pool area, debris floating in pool. Pools themselves much too small (we prayed for rain just to clear out the overcrowding)
Dining/Food
Food was plentiful but average. Waited 1/2 hour to be seated for "speciality" restaurant even though we had reservations and then we were rushed through the meal.

Wait until reconstruction is completed before using this as a "beautiful" beach excursion. Getting off water taxi and stepping into a war zone wasn't pretty. TOO congested for a "private" beach experience.

Boring cruise
by Victor C. from NJ
Sailing date:
Apr 2013
Pros:
Bahamas
Cons:
Low music by the pool
This was my second cruise with my family and I compared it with Carnival Pride. I had more fun on the Carnival Pride than The Jewel. First of all the music by the pool was very low and they should of had a open and close dome over the pool when its was cold or raining just like Carnival Pride. There wasn't that much to do on the ship and at times we were bored. This ship is really more for seniors.

Pros:
Kids club
Cons:
Food
Need painting and preservation. Food was cold, and their was a poor selection. This was our third cruise on our third cruise line. NCL comes in third!
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Restroom at pool area was out of order the whole cruise. We had to go at least 200 feet to go to the restroom.
Dining/Food
Food was cold, and there was no comparison to Royal Caribbean in the buffet and in the formal dining area. We did not pay to eat ant the MANY pay for dining areas so we cannot comment on these. Why should you have to pay extra to get good food!
Stateroom Quality
My child loved the drop down bunk bed!
Ship Staff Quality
Life guard was useless (only one at the pool area). It took 15 minutes to get one of the hot tubs closed (after telling 4 staff members) that a child threw up in the water.
Entertainment & Activities
The one show we went to was fantastic! Planed events were always started early, and when the staff members were asked about this they denied the started early.
Children's Programs
Kept our child happy!!!

Unhappy Employees
by A Traveler from Orlando, FL
Sailing date:
Mar 2010
Pros:
All the food choices, bars and nice decor
Cons:
Rude employees, bad port of call, poorly designed ship
Very nicely appointed. Lots of bars and places to eat. Awful employees.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Ship was beautifully appointed, a little confusing to get around. Poorly designed for easy flow, but nice accomodations.
Dining/Food
Food was fairly good, Cagney's was very good. The sushi was sub-par, but for $15 for all you can it, it's worth it to get out of the dining halls.
Stateroom Quality
Uncomfortable beds and awful linens. The decor was very nice though and the closet space and design was very useful.
Ship Staff Quality
Employees were flat our rude to us half of the trip; they spilled someone's beer on me without apologizing and lied to me saying it was water, didn't greet us or introduce themselves to us in dining rooms, stateroom attendants did nothing more than exchange dirty linens and service in the 24 hour dining hall was appalling.
Entertainment & Activities
Schedules to find out what was happening were hard to come by.

by Vicki A from Long Island, NY
Sailing date:

Pros:
Various Restaurant Options
Cons:
Small Rooms uncomfortable beds
Ship was very clean, most employees were friendly and helpful, captain always updated us everyday, the cruise director was excellent, great choice of restaurants but main dining room was excellent.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Nice size ship, not to large, layout was easy. Only one large pool in center of ship.
Dining/Food
Excellent restaurant choices. Main dining room Tsars Palace was pretty and food was always good.
Stateroom Quality
Rooms were small, (only 2 people at most), nice looking room always clean but bed was uncomfortable. We had a balcony and inside room AFT. good location.
Ship Staff Quality
Everyone was friendly, room steward never stocked ref. or gave ice.We had to ask every couple of days.
Entertainment & Activities
Excellent night time shows.

good cruise!
by natalie s from long beach, ca
Sailing date:
Sep 2012
Pros:
cleanliness of ship and entertainment
we recently had cruised on another line (princess) so we kept comparing everything to that one, but i felt like everything was good but not exceptional excet the entertainment on board, food was good and service was good. we did meet up with with people on a similar cruise but princess cruise line, they did kind of mention the same thing about food being just ok, so after speaking with them i felt more confident in our decision on norweigen, overall a good trip

A great cruise!
by Sherry B from Binghamton, NY
Sailing date:
Jun 2012
Pros:
We liked that there were 4 stops on this ship and the entertainment was great!
Cons:
Unfortunately the food was not great!
The ship is clean, the staff were all friendly. They really push the hand sanitizer, but in a polite way. The entertainment was fantastic! The major disappointment was the food- it was just ok. We really enjoyed the 4 stops.

Dining/Food
Nothing special. We had dinner at the Italian place and it was awful- we complained to the management and they did not charge us for everyone (10$ per person to eat there). We also had dinner at Chin Chin- the chinese place and that was great. Overall- the food was a disappointment. Also- there were extra charges for things like cappucino or espresso after dinner.
Stateroom Quality
I was disappointed with the room's set up, primarily because when we booked through Orbitz I was assured that a cabin for 4 included 2 single beds and 2 fold down beds, but it turns out on the Jewel there are NO rooms with that set up. The best they can do for a family of 4 is 2 singles, a trundle bed in between the 2 singles and a fold down, so you have to crawl out of the end of the bed to get out.

What I expected
by A Traveler from los angeles, ca
Sailing date:
Jul 2012
Pros:
Free-style dining
Cons:
Not enough quiet space to just lounge
Likes: 1) The shows were entertaining. Not quite vegas good, but butter than average. 2) Free-style dining. I liked eating whenever I wanted and I liked the 24 hour "Blue Lagoon" restaurant. It had great buffalo wings. 3) Shuffle board. 4) Game room - it was always full! 5) Beautiful view of a glacier Dislikes: 1) There are other dining options that you have to pay for. 2) There was not enough quiet lounge space. If it was raining or windy, you have to be inside. The best place was the "Spinnaker Lounge", but during the day there were always events like Bingo, activities for kids, etc., so it was too loud to just take a nap. There were plenty of other venues for them to use, but for some reason this room was always used. 3) The emergency protocol wasn't thorough. They showed us how to find and put on our life vest, but not where I was supposed to meet in case of an emergency. General: The food was vegas-buffet quality - good. The sit-down places for meals were better than the buffet but not gourmet. For example, the first night I ordered the lobster and fish, and both were over-cooked. Ketchikan - nothing to really do here except buy jewelry. Juneau - awesome place! Canoeing to Lake Mendenhall was the best. We got really close to the glacier and poked at icebergs! Skagway - easy to access trails right off the ship. No need to book an excursion if you just want to hike (anywhere from 2-14 miles). Victoria BC - go to fisherman's wharf where you can feed a sea lion and get shuck for a buck!
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Be sure you familiarize yourself with what floors connect the whole ship. There are shortcuts through the staterooms on floors 8 and 11.
Dining/Food
I wish they had more variety of hot sauces for Asian cuisines. Tabasco is hard to come by.
Stateroom Quality
Very tight space, but very comfortable bed. Only has shampoo and body wash, so bring other amenities.
Ship Staff Quality
Entertainment & Activities
Shows were generally good. Bingo is a rip off. You pay $40-70 to play 3 rounds, and the prizes ranged from $100-$500 (despite over 100 people playing per session).
