Not one of my favorite cruises
by Sharon P. from Seattle, WA
Sailing date:
Oct 2012
Pros:
The staff was so commidating
Cons:
The food was not to my liking and usually came to the table not hot. Not enough show to go to. Too many late night shows. For our age group it was too noisey and too many drunk people.
As far as the Carnival Fun Ship is not for older people. The food could be greatly improved.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Very confusing getting around. The bathroom on the Lido deck was always dirty and not cleaned up. Needs some updating.
Dining/Food
Quality of food not up to standards. I did like the convenience of the open dining tho.
Stateroom Quality
Our porter was very efficient and was there for us at all times
Ship Staff Quality
The staff was very friendly.
Entertainment & Activities
Not enough entertainment at earlier hours. No need for the vulgar comedy shows.

by Terry S from D.C.

Pros:
Nothing
Cons:
Everything
This was a cruise for the unintiated...a party cruise for 3 days. Not relaxing and the clientele was discourteous and unruly.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Not the cleanest of ships....food was fair to mediocre.
Dining/Food
One of our party became deathly ill and we attribute it to something eaten on the ship.
Stateroom Quality
Our room was above average and the attendant was exceptionally attentive, although we made very little requests of her. She was always available and willing to help.
Ship Staff Quality
Entertainment & Activities
It was a 3 day cruise so we had limited time to enjoy the amenities.

service was poor, food not up to standard,
I have been on several Carnival cruises. In fact I have been on this ship before. This trip I found the service to be poor. The food below the standard of previously experienced food. The drinks did not seem to contain any alcohol. All in all the cruise of this Sensation did not measure up to my previous cruise on Sensation. Everything seemed to be a bit "off".

I had attempted to complain to guest services unpleasant odors and the safe conditions at the water slide and then again, in defense of my wife, and the final night to the maitrede, although I recognized that I was at fault for not having proper attire; I wanted to make the point that the vessel had not even come close to living up to expectations, I was disgruntled that other rules were by in large ignored and poor supervision made certain situations unsafe. Yet Carnival management pushed back in calling my state room to explain they had a company policy and without regret adhered to guidelines. Apparently its less distracting to allow a woman to sit at her table upset and crying rather that allow a gentleman to be seated on formal night in shorts.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
We embarked on the Sensation out of Port Canaveral, before even leaving port we were disappointed; the vessel's age was likely reason to blame for moldy and stale smells of cigarette smoke that embodied the ship; coupled with intermittent occasional pungent smells of raw sewage that greeted us while traversing the cabin area hallways made our experience most unpleasant.
Dining/Food
Without an attendant to direct passengers, meal times were also a source of frustration. Carnival creates confusion by setting up tray and plate stations at each end and in the middle of all buffet lines guests enter from all directions and are left to fend for themselves. I witnessed several incidents of hard feelings and harsh words because of conceived line jumping.
Stateroom Quality
small and cramped for 3 adults, but we knew that up front
Ship Staff Quality
On formal night I was refused dinner seating with my family, who already had been seated because I had not thought to bring long pants on a Caribbean vacation, I was dismissed by the maitrede, my wife sat at the table and cried. At that dinner my wife ordered rare prime rib, her brother the steak; the prime rib came well done and was sent back, the steak was served but was too tough for Doug to eat, when her dinner arrived she swapped meals with him, upset and unsatisfied they left before dessert.
Entertainment & Activities
no issues
Children's Programs
Without proper supervision at the water slide, the area became dangerous and unusable for my handicapped brother-in-law, where after only 3 rides on the smaller slide, the larger was not open due to high winds, rowdy-ed up children crossing over the slides rather that going around and running then pushing on the stairwells were contently knocking him down.

Don"t Waste Your Time and Money
by A Traveler from Augusta Georgia
Sailing date:
May 2009
Pros:
The weather was nice!!!!
Cons:
Just about everything else
The Sensation was suppose to have been renovated recently....I for one could not tell. The ship is just to small for the number of passengers they stuff onboard. This was my third trip on this boat and I swear everything seems to get worse each time.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
As I said this ship is too small for the number of passengers. There is very little to do if you don't drink and/or gamble. The layout of the ship is tolerable however this renovation that was done is not so obvious...the ship is just old. Most places on the ship are hard to get to and the traffic patterns are directed poorly.
Dining/Food
Food on a ship is food on a ship....if your looking for 5 star dining THIS AIN'T IT. Not to be overly critical of the food....it seems to not measure up to past trips. The avaliability of food seems to get shorter and shorter.....1 1/2 hours to feed 2400 people for breakfast and then it is gone. Let it suffice to say that if you want to sleep a little on your vacation don't plan on eating. The myth you have heard about food all around all the time....not so on carnival anymore. I will say the idea of opening dining in the formal dining room was an improvement over eating at the round table with people you can't stand.
Stateroom Quality
Again, just renovated, hard to tell....my room was the same as other trips...balcony suite. Bathroom stunk and it could not be removed although they did try (I think). The chairs on the balcony were so large the we had trouble just opening the door and getting on the balcony...not good.
Ship Staff Quality
My housekeeping staff was wonderful and I can't say enough good things about them....and that is where it ends. The cruise director this trip was useless...had nothing of any fun planned. The food service staff was the worst I have have ever encountered and it translated to the poor quality of food. Casino staff were not only poorly trained at the table games they were rude if you complained.
Entertainment & Activities
Poor...Poor...Poor.....if you don't drink or gamble there is nothing to do. We arrived in Nassau at 12 noon...for no apparent reason and left the next morning at 6...half day wasted and could not even go to the beach and shop the straw market....bad itenerary..I should have checked closer.

Carnival never again
by Katelyn from Ft. Myers, FL
Sailing date:
Jun 2012
Pros:
Art Auction
Cons:
Food
Ship seemed outdated. The kid pool area with waterslide was fun, but rest of ship was pretty mediocre. This was my 4th cruise but my 1st time on Carnival and was very unimpressed. The entertainment was poor and the theatre itself was nothing extravagant. The service in the dining room was extremely slow and the wait for the food was not worthwhile. I had high expectations for the dining room and I would prefer going to an Applebee's or TGIFridays than eat that food. The staff seemed highly unprofessional, for example during a comedy show I observed 3 staff standing by the bar and drinking cocktails. My experience was definitely not helped by the fact that the one day at sea we were stuck in cloudy/stormy weather the entire day.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
Needs to be udpated. First thoughts were it looks very 80's.
Dining/Food
Service extremely slow. In the dining room I waited 10 minutes with an empty glass and had to ask the server to refill my water. Waitstaff was not very personable. The buffet area did not have many options, except the deli was good. Overall food was disgusting. I was excited to try the Sushi Bar. How could you screw up a California Roll? Well, Carnival did it. I would take grocery store sushi over that sushi.
Stateroom Quality
Stateroom was average. I was pleased with the size of the shower compared to other cruise lines. However I did notice a dead fly on my bathroom sink for over 3 days.
Ship Staff Quality
They were highly unprofessional and service was extremely slow. Though I do give kudos to the cruise director Jimmy. He was very enthusiastic and humorous.
Entertainment & Activities
I am not a comedy person but the comedians onboard were pretty hilarious. The Carnival shows were very tacky. I did enjoy the Love & Marriage show because the cruise director was hilarious. I also enjoyed the hip hop dancers onboard as well as the art auctions.

Cruise to the Bahammas
by Staci O from Omaha
Sailing date:
Apr 2012
This was our first cruise and I regret to say it was disappointing. I am not one to complain or discuss the negatives about something usually I just do not go to the place again. The only reason I am doing this review is so hopefully improvements will be made out of this. I understand that cruises bring different people from all around the world with different backgrounds to one place but at the end of the day no matter where you are or where you come from the one thing that everyone has in common is treating others with respect. Unfortunately on this cruise line this concept lacks. Some of the staff members did not treat their fellow co workers or ship passengers with much respect and ruined the experience for me. I actually witnessed a gangway crew member yelling at a passenger. I was shocked. There were some great staff members dont get me wrong but most of those great staff members were the ones I saw getting treated horribly by upper leveled staff members.

Dining/Food
Food was not very good period. Items were served cold when they should have been warm, items were hard when they should have been soft, and it was very disappointing.
Stateroom Quality
Ship Staff Quality
It depends which staff members you come into contact with. The gangway staff and upper level staff members were rude. It was disgusting to see how some of the staff members treated not only ship passengers but their own staff below them. It is unfortunate to say that most of the staff came off really disrespectful. The housekeeping, serving, deck waiters/servers, shore excursion, guest services, gift shops were all great! They were super friendly and very welcoming. Most of the gangway staff was rude and cold and need a lesson on being respectful. It shouldnt matter the level of position, or position title everyone should treat and show respect to all passengers and fellow staff members. Just because you may be in a higher position doesnt mean you are better than your fellow co workers in a lower position.

Pros:
weather was nice
Cons:
rude people, too many kids, cruiseline lack of customer service
we purchased a specilaty bottle of liquor as a gift, requested specifically. We purchased the liqour, and gave it to the cruiseline to "keep" for us until the end of the cruise, per their rules. They lost the bottle - worse, delivered it to another cabin. They offered an unclaimed bottle of generic rum (one that I can buy anywhere) as a peace offering to my lost, rare rum- that I made a specific trip to purchase. I am very disappointed. They refunded my money, whcih took a hour and half for them to do - while I was waiting to disembark. In addition, there were 4 cabins with 4 teenagers in each cabin across the hall from us. There was no parental control, and they were wreaking havoc literally all night. I called security, and upon reponding, the guard was also "responding" to the teenage girls flirtatious remarks. Ive cruised carnival a dozen times before, this may just be my last.

Pros:
service and staff were great
Cons:
people on board were eggressive, pushy and self serving
It is my impression that the only people that sail aboard your vessel are there because they can not afford a higher class vessel. It is filled with people that can not afford an experience that puts them with a class of people that are there to enjoy a peaceful vacation. They seem to be there for whatever they can get for free, for themselves, it was an every man for himself experience. I want a vacation where I don't have to worry about someone shoving my pregnant wife to get ahead in line.
Ship Details:
Ship Quality
We have found nothing wrong with these areas except for the fact that we are not really into the bar seen and wanted a place that I could have a glass of wine away from the people that are there to party.
Dining/Food
The food was good especially in the dining room. The other was what you would expect from a buffet.
Stateroom Quality
Everything was working the way it should and was very clean. Also we loved the towel animals.
Ship Staff Quality
They were fantastic.
Entertainment & Activities
Enjoyed the entertainment
