My first and last cruise by
Michael O from Fort Myers. Florida Sailing date: Oct 2011Pros: Jeep excursion in Freeport Cons: Boredom, especially day at sea. Not ever having been on a cruise before my wife and I thought we would dip our toes in the water by taking a short 4 day cruise to Cozumel via Key West.
Boarding was delayed two hours and we had to stand in a crowded line while the problem was sorted out. There was no explanation why we were delayed.
Due to inclement weather in the Western Caribbean the itinery was chaged to the Bahamas. We were not told of this change until we were on board. Had we known we would have not proceeded as we have been to the Bahamas many times before.
The suite we had was very comfortable and the steward very helpful and pleasant.
The food was good but not exceptional.
We immediately formed the strong impression the cruise line was out to get as much money from us as possible. The food at meal times is of course included but everything else is extra, and at a high mark up.
I am a generous tipper but I like to decide who I tip and how much - depending upon the level of service. Carnival automatically add 15% gratuity to all charges and then have the affrontery to strongly suggest you tip the maitre d' at the end of the trip. They even provide an envelope specially for the tip.
The day at sea was sheer boredom. I was told by other experienced cruisers that this vessel was not as well equipped as some others so perhaps we were just unlucky with the ship we chose.
Disembarkation was very well organised and I was pleasantly surprised when we were off the ship and waiting for a taxi all within half an hour.
I am sure many people would be very satisfied with their experiences on this ship but I am afraid I will not be cruising again. Ship Quality

  Average at best by
A Traveler from Dallas, Tx Sailing date: Sep 2011Pros: Evening dining and evening shows are good. Cons: Over crowded pool and food lines. Pool was too small and no where to go to cool off when laying out in sun. This ship only has one small pool on it. As stated above, the ship was so smoky. I could never escape the smoke. Even in my bedroom. The pool was so small and there was not even an all adult pool to go to. The lines for the buffet were always so long and it was difficult to find a seat. Staff was not friendly. If you like crowds, smoke, and crude/rude comedy acts, this is the cruise for you. Ship Quality

  So so cruise by
Wanda V from Coventry, CT Sailing date: May 2011Pros: Loved Cozumel Cons: Staff was indifferent and not friendly The food was not very good. Most of the staff did not speak English well and were indifferent and in some cases downright unfriendly. We were dropped off at Key West at 8am. NO ONE was there. The stores were CLOSED. We basically walked around a deserted downtown for 1.5 hours and we only had 5 hours in port!
Overall, not a very good cruise! Ship QualityThe ship's decor is very dated. Some of the rugs are worn. Dining/FoodGood was not very good. Not a lot of selection.
Especially bad was the fact that we returned around 8:30pm from Cozumel. That was after our dining time. We attempted to go eat at the other dining area that had a late dining and WERE TURNED AWAY!! We were starving and there was NOTHING WORTH EATING!! Ship Staff QualityMost staff did not speak English. Not very friendly. Children's Programs

  Carnival Imagination: Disappointing by
Pam E. from Indianapolis, IN Sailing date: Nov 2010Pros: The ship (Imagination) was very clean. Cons: Weak entertainment and activities What a mistake to select Carnival's Imagination as the one to introduce my friends to cruising. Over the last ten years, I have cruised at least 15 times, short and long cruises on several of the major cruise lines, including Carnival. Carnival employees greeting us at the airport made a poor first impression. They were less than enthusiastic, acting tired and uninterested in us. Once on the boat, we had no hair dryers and only one electrical outlet per cabin. In one of our cabins, the phone didn't work, and room service was a no show each time we tried. The major show of singers and dancers was no better than a Kings Island show; the male-female leads were overweight, and one dancer had a hole in her fishnet stockings. Two comedians were on board. One was good; the other SCREAMED about how beating children was the correct way to discipline them. One night there was no entertainment to be found other than music in the lounges.
At the meet-the-captian formal event, drinks were a $1 off. On every other cruise I've sailed, drinks were complimentary and appetizers were served. Also, there were no perks for being a return Carnival guest. On other ships that is not the case. We booked a South Miami Shore excursion for the day we disembarked. Our arrival at the airport for our 3 p.m. flight was guaranteed. However, the excursion bus was late at two stops. I asked the tour operator for his name and phone number, and he refused to give it to me.
We were dropped off, late, at the wrong terminal and had to rush to make our flight. Not a good way to end a vacation. Ship Quality

Cozumel, MexicoDue to a storm, our excursion here was cancelled. The rain and wind kept us restricted to the shops by the dock. Jose Frogs charged $14 for a single margarita, $7 for a coke.
Key West, FloridaMore time in Key West would have been good.

  disappointed again by
A Traveler from Orlando, FL Sailing date: Mar 2010Pros: The ship itself seemed renovated and clean. Cons: that they do not accomodate handicap children The ship was great, it was the staff that was very disappointing. I've been cruising for many years now and from my experiance I'm used to when walking by a staff member a simple greeting of "hello" not turning their heads or looking busy when I come around the corner just to avoid me when I know they saw me coming. Not only myself but I noticed this reaction from the staff with other cruisers. I have an 11yrs old daughter with spina bifida and uses a power chair to get around. Mentally she is fine and is very independant and gets along with all. (1 expample) When I tried to put her in the kids program she was turned away several times being asked to come back at a later time because they were going on an outing that she could not go to only because they didn't have an extra staff member to take the elevator with her to where they were going leaving her feeling sad and asking why she could not go with them when there were elevators to take her. Children's Programsthe schedule they have for the children is not a good one at all. I have two 8 yrs old, one 7 yr old boys and my 11yrs old daughter. They kept wanting to go play in the children's program but they were closed or in a different area than they are usually causing us to walk around the majority of the time trying to find them. After finding where they were doing a special activity, I was able to leave the boys but had to return back upstairs with my daughter because they did't have someone to take her back up in the elevator after their activity was over. When I brought her up to wait for the other children we had to wait for the staff to communicate with eachother that her age group sent her back up because they were finishing up and could not bring her back up with the group. By the time everything was settled there was 30 mins left before the kids had to be picked up again. 4 out of 6 people found this review helpful.

Carnival Imagination Cruise 4 day by
Ashlee M from Kirksville, MO Sailing date: Jun 2009Pros: All of the staff were great! Cons: Everything was way over priced, little to no adult only activites, not much to do besides shows. We wanted to play bingo but cost way to much for the cards! Staff aboard the imagination were wonderful however, the prices of everything outside of the cruise package were tremendously overpriced. Not once on my vacation did I drink because a single drink was 12 dollars or more. People who were drinking said the drinks were very light on alcohol. Seemed as though every activity on the ship was almost like a scam because everything was pricy and low on quality. For my vacation I spent most of the time being frustrated at how carnival seemed to constantly try to take advantage of my wallet. When did the price of water go over 4 dollars for a bottle? Also, there were no activities for adults only on the ship. Every daily activity was full of children and made it very stressful and unenjoyable for honeymooners on the ship. Ship QualityShip was very nice. Dining/FoodServing size in dining room was small. Stateroom QualityVery clean and well prepared staff. Ship Staff QualityA+ to the staff Entertainment & ActivitiesShows were good but activities were horrible 1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
