Don't Miss: Don't know, did not get the opportunity to see everything Portland, MaineNice scenerary
Halifax, Nova ScotiaNot enough transportation at this port and what they have is expensive. Need to book excursion or don't waste your time.
Don't Miss: Peggy's Cove Saint John, New BrunswickHop on Hop Off Bus - 3 tours but they repeat themselves in a lot of areas plus you had to come back to the origination spot and change buses for each tour

Disappointing experience w/ Camp Carniva by
A Traveler from California Sailing date: Jul 2011Pros: Food Cons: Youth Program I had a great experience with Carnival several years ago when the days without kid. I never write a review, but after this trip I felt I have to because I owe this to my son and myself. We are working parent who do not have help from parents, relatives to watch our kid on a regular basis. We were so excited to know that we can enjoy a cruise trip with our son and utilize their daycare. But he hated it, he has been to three different daycare since he was 6 months old and never gave us a hard time leaving him . However, on the second day of dropping off Camp Carnival , he reacted strongly, he was crying and would not leave his stroller. One of the staff came to hold him so that I can leave. When I pick him up, he was at his stroller and they took him out from the side of play room ( a room where kids nap and there is a huge TV). A mean looking Filipino lady rolled her eyes and said he wanted to go into the stroller and he had a nap there and after woke up he would not get up from the stroller. My son was in the stroller for FIVE HOURS? Did any of them even try to get him out of there? And why is he still in a TV room after his nap?
Following day, I went in there to comfort him until a Macedonian (she's nice) lady walk away from over 10 kids to hold him. When I pick him up at 10 pm, he was not in my eye sight, he came out from that TV room again, good thing this time he was not in the stroller, but pushed his stroller out. Did they leave him in the stroller again and watch TV the whole time?
The third day when I tried to drop him off at 2 pm, another grumpy, tired or sleepy looking Russian, Romanian or Polish accent lady would not check me in because I asked her if I can be in there to comfort him for a minute. I went down to guest relation and asked to speak to camp director, Anna. She came shortly, a sweet young lady with a dark bags udnder her eyes (saw her one time holding a coffee cup at 10 pm!) I asked her if I can go in there to comfort him before I leave and told her if they over worked their employees. Also, I asked not to put him in the TV room, I do not want him out of my eye sight. They all seemed tired and annoyed, not just to me but also to other parents. We will not dare to leave him there for dinner after all these horrible experience. The dinner menu for kids did not seem all that great, I dont see any fruit and vege. We dropped him off about 8 pm after dinner, so we can go to the 8:30 show. I asked the same mean poker face Filipino lady if she can change his diaper, she said you suppose to drop them off with dry diaper. She than took a diaper and put it on top of his stroller and walk away. When we pick him up at 10 pm that diaper is still on his stroller, his diaper was not changed! No wonder the other two days when I pick him up his diaper was full of pee and his butt turns red. They never checked or changed his diaper. My poor son........
They do not have any schedules or activiy for the daycare when you make the reservation, neither on line or inquire by phone. We found out the hours on the ship the day of boarding at 5:30pm. There's a family time for an hour and after we drop him off until 10 pm, for about two to three hours first day. Full day service are only three days; sencond, third and fourth, none on fifth day, disembarkation day around 8 am. They dont open the same hour everyday, some day early some day late. They are close one hour for lunch, second and forth day closed 1 hour after lunch for family activity, making cuddly bear with a fee (after these kids paid full pice and still expecting making money somewhere!) The camp close from 4-6 pm to preparing dinner. They offer night owl time from 10 pm to 3 am with a fee, about $7 per hour. It's a good deal if you don't mind paying that amount for one to 20 ratio and watching TV.
Children's ProgramsCamp Carnival's staff looks very young, perhaps in their beginning or mid 20s. Were they partying after the night owl shift or chat with their room-mate after 12 hours long working day and all come into work with a black circle eye? How many hours do these girls sleep? An older toilet cleaning lady might've worked same amount of hours but with a smile and much more energetic than these young nannies. This Canada cruise line to St. Johns and Hallifax are only five days four nights, total hours of daycare should be about less than 8 hours per day, remind you only three days of full time services. We paid full price for my two year old son about $600. We are currently paying about $200 a week for his regular daycare which they provide healthy meal, caring, love and about 10 hours a day. I dont mean to be tacky of using this measurement. Do these foreign cheap labor nanny really worth $600 for 3 days? How much have Carnival profitted this? 0 out of 2 people found this review helpful.

  A horrible experience by
Stacey B from Minneapolis, MN Sailing date: Jul 2011Pros: Our stateroom attendant was wonderful Cons: The ship, the food, the service...all awful The ship was dirty, and the decor was tacky. Ship QualityOn the first day, the first thing I noticed was how dirty the lido deck was. they had pillars, and they were caked with grease, and then a layer of dust. Dining/FoodThe service was awful, even though it was not really the staffs fault. They had 2 waiters serving 10-12 tables. The food was mediocre at best, I could have eaten the same at home, for a lot less money. Stateroom QualityOur stateroom was fine. It was comfortable, but the walls are paper thin so you can tell exactly what your neighbors are saying. Ship Staff QualityWhereas the staff seemed to be friendly, they did not seem to care. I could ask 3 people the same question and get 3 different answers. I wanted to know when the buffet opened, so I asked someone, and they said it was open on the other side of the room (they had 2 seperate buffet lines). I went to the other side, which was closed, and they said to go to the other side, when I told them it was not open either, they shrugged and pretended no longer to understand english. Entertainment & ActivitiesWe never knew what was happening anywhere, and the only thing we did know about were the nightly shows, which were slow moving and not entertaining.

  rooms needed refurbishng by
Sherry S from United States Sailing date: May 2011Pros: pool area Cons: the awful 4 hour wait to get on board The public areas were nice and inviting, the pool areas were very nice and the entertainment areas were nice but the rooms needed updating or refurbishing. Our carpet looked very dirty and stained, and the sofa looked like it was going to fall down. I thought the halls were dark and dingy. Ship Quality

  A miserable cruise! by
Sarah S. from Cleveland, OH Sailing date: Jun 2011Pros: Getting off of the ship Cons: Dirty & tacky boat, disgusting food So sad very sad honeymoon trip. The ship was a tacky mess. Mirrors everywhere, ugly plastic fixtures, obscene carpeting with stains, etc. So many terrible smells. Ship QualityThe size and layout were fine. The decor was cheap and tacky. Dining/FoodLots of mediocre food, disguised as fancy. Nothing was QUALITY. We sustained ourselves on grilled cheese sandwiches the entire trip. Stateroom QualityPromised a private balcony -- but received a window overlooking a public balcony. We couldn't even access from our floor -- had to go up one floor and back down to enjoy it. Also - no chairs on the deck. We could only stand until we got tired. Very small stateroom. Shower drainage gurgled for hours after we showered. The staff responsible for maintaining our room was very kind, professional and attentive. Ship Staff QualityStaff (housekeeping, dining) was incredible. Very hardworking, genuine, professional and attentive. The crew, however, was falsely upbeat and barraged us with unnecessary announcements. Entertainment & ActivitiesEmbarrassing! The hairy chest contest was something out of fiction. Kept pinching myself -- am i really, truly, witnessing such an offense? I really truly did. Watched a 'family friendly' magic show -- lots of skin and ladies dancing in thong underwear.

Halifax, Nova ScotiaWonderful! Again, did a self guided walking tour. Picked up a fun souvenir at the fantastic "Oddjects" in Halfiax then got a fantastic haircut from Melissa at the incredible Alicia Melanson salon. Authentic poutine from a foodcart and coffee on a rooftop deck and a lovely shop whose name we've forgotten.
Saint John, New BrunswickWe walked around and enjoyed beautiful old architecture. Stopped in "The Feel Good Store" -- a yoga shop with amazing, delicious tea. Had breakfast at a local diner with a sassy waitress, just what you would have expected.

  The S.S. Tacky by
A Traveler from Washington, DC Sailing date: Mar 2011We went on the 7 night Western Caribbean Cruise for Spring Break. The saving grace of this trip was the large population of other spring breakers. The downside was the other half, definitely an eye opener to "Real" America
FOR FUTURE SPRING BREAKERS ---- SKIP THE CRUISE, JUST GO TO A BEACH RESORT - there is only one dance club/bar open after 1 AM which gets old really fast and good luck waking up to experience the port of the day, one of the arrival and departure times was 7 AM - 3 PM

  will never cruise again!!!! by
A Traveler from englewood, nj Sailing date: Jul 2010Pros: the staff was great!!!! Cons: the lines at the buffets was crazy. they say the have many resturants on board but the buffets are the only thing open for breakfast and lunch. if you try to order room service it's always a 2hr wait. there was never a chair by the pool area. overall the service waas great the ship was clean and nice. but the amenities were not. Ship Quality
Dining/Foodthere were VERY long lines for everything!!!! by the time you get to the front of the line half the buffets are closed or are out of stuff. Room service was 2 hrs wait ALL the time, even for just a cup of tea. When you did get there food it was the worst thing I have ever eaten. Stateroom Quality

Entertainment & Activitieswe were on a 4 day cruise, they kept on repeating the same shows. so if you saw the comedy show yesterday don't go back today because it's the exact same thing. 0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.

  A horrible vacation! by
Holly P. from Virginia Beach, VA Sailing date: May 2010Pros: The shore excursion. Cons: The cruise ship being way beyond passenger capacity. This was both the worst AND most expensive vacation I have ever had. There were way to many people on the cruise ship. Every time we wanted to eat or get off the ship we waited in a 30-45 minute line. Everything was so disorganized. We were at least an hour late for everything...leaving, arriving to our destinations, and even getting off the ship when we were docked. Ship QualityWe stayed on the second deck and it always smelled like a sewer in the hall ways. The air quality was very poor on the ship. Dining/FoodThe food was ok but there was never anywhere to sit. We also had to wait in line at least 30-45 minutes every meal. Stateroom QualityOur room was one of the only decent parts of our cruise. The size was fine and our room was very clean. Ship Staff QualityAlthough the staff was very friendley, they were not very helpful. On three different occasions we asked a staff member for help and they could not understand what we were asking because they could not understand english. This resulted in them giving us wrong answers, which wasted our time. Entertainment & ActivitiesWe felt that the only activities that were available were mainly focused on children. We were very bord during our time out to sea.
