Avalon Waterways was created in 2004 and is owned by the Globus family of brans, a well regarded and long established tour operator guiding more than 500,000 passengers a year on escorted tours worldwide. Cruising the Rhine, Moselle, Main and Danube Rivers in Europe, and some of the most legendary rivers in China, Southeast Asia, Egypt, and the Galapagos, most Avalon ships accommodate 128 to 170 guests and are often able to dock in the heart of their destination.

The Fleet:
Avalon will operate 11 ships in Europe by the end of 2013, with eight more vessels in China, Southeast Asia, Egypt, and the Galapagos, chartering ships in regions like South America, North Africa, and Asia. Comfortable well-appointed staterooms are among the largest on most river ships; all have river view with picture window, while a majority have French balconies and sliding glass doors. In May 2011, Avalon Panorama was launched as the first of its "Suite Ships" class, followed by the Avalon Vista and Avalon Visionary in 2012, and new in 2013, The Avalon Artistry II and Avalon Expression. Among the many innovative amenities found on these ships, the suite category staterooms are even more spacious than Avalon's regular staterooms and feature glass walls that slide back to create a unique Open Air Balcony.

Dress onboard and ashore is casual, country club casual for dinner. The Captain's Welcome and Farewell dinners are dressy, but not formal. Atmosphere onboard is relaxed, and fellow passengers tend to be well-traveled, upscale, and in the 50+ age group.

Interior design is contemporary chic; public area have plenty of seating and cozy spots to relax. Most ships have a fitness center and beauty salon, as well as a whirlpool or pool on the Sky Deck, which offer both sun and shade sitting areas.
